    Milkshake menu

Lots of options from a really extensive menu! Milkshakes, smoothies, coffee, cake, pancakes, mojito -- you name it! You can also order food there (burgers, pizza, delicious fries) that comes conveniently from Grill Gate, the restaurant next door. I was a bit unimpressed with the service. The person taking our order messed up the size on our milkshake (we wanted a large; she brought a small shake) and they didn't clearly explain why we had to pay two separate bills. We realized afterwards that our food was billed from Grill Gate and our drinks and coffee were billed from Gate Cafe. These were small mistakes that I'm sure will go away as the workers gain more experience, but they bothered me nonetheless! The food itself was delicious. I tried the fries with special sauce and the potatoes were crispy and so savoury. At about $6.50 it was a great deal and enough to share between two people. The mojito (non-alcoholic) was okay, but the lemon juice definitely tasted artificial and fake, and for $6 it was not worth it. My recommendation from the cafe is their choco-hazelnut milkshake. A small comes to about $11 and a large is about $12.50. With chocolate chip ice cream, milk hazelnut syrup and hazelnut pieces, it is SO refreshing and tasty. You can also add whipped cream on top for an additional $1. Overall a fantastic spot! The cafe and restaurant next door are tied together and offer a hearty Persian-inspired meal. I was also surprised with how much seating space there was inside; despite this, I would still recommend reserving your spot beforehand if you're going during a busy time such as Friday nights or weekends. Keep in mind that their prices are on the higher end!

We arrived at the small plaza with a small parking lot today (Saturday) around 10:15 a.m. & luckily enough, it was a quiet start to the day as parking was plentiful though I can imagine it being a bit hectic during busy times. This location (there are 2 others) is in the plaza right next to the Richmond Hill location for AI Sushi. As soon as we entered, we were promptly greeted & seated at a nice corner table. Shortly after that, a nice gentleman came to placed a QR code at our table asking if we've been here before. After we said no, he explained to us how to order using the QR code. We can all scan and order individually then it shows up as one large order for the table. I think he said he can split the bill if needed & we would just need to let him know. The place itself was nice. A bit above casual with around 20 tables inside. Well light and seemed clean. I ordered the Thai red curry pasta with clams, hubby and our friend both ordered the chicken and waffles, and my cousin ordered the mushroom benedict. We all ordered a drink (hubby a flat white with the rest ordering some type of latte). Our food came pretty quickly. My pasta was delicious and had good heat (spicy kick) to it & the red curry sauce was full of deep rich flavors. I enjoyed the clams but they were a bit small so it's taste got overpowered by the sauce. I would have preferred it if they gave me fewer but larger clams. I had a taste of my hubby's fried chicken & it was really good. The batter was well seasoned & crispy but not oily and the chicken thigh was moist. The staff know what they are doing there. We were asked whether we are enjoying our food & they always made sure our water glasses were full. I highly recommend this place & am looking forward to my next visit there!

That level of care really comes through in the cup; you can taste the depth and intentionality in every sip. I ordered the vanilla bean iced latte, and it was easily one of the best espresso bases I've had in a while. The shot itself was rich and layered: deep, chocolatey, and nutty striking a really nice balance between bitterness and acidity. It finished with a smooth, almost creamy note that made the whole drink incredibly enjoyable. The only downside is the size-to-price ratio. At around CAD $8.50 for what felt like a 10 oz drink, it's definitely on the pricier side for something that goes down this easily. Still, I'd absolutely come back when I'm in the mood for a more premium coffee experience. (Funny note - the barista and I had a small rant together about how people order "iced cappuccino" and macchiato expecting Starbucks milk sugary drink instead of the "proper" shot with dollop of foam. I understand their pain hahah)

My cousin and I arrived shortly after opening on New Year's Eve. The cafe has a small interior with minimal seating, mostly bench seating along the wall with small round coffee tables. Even though there was only one barista working that morning, she was efficient at taking orders and making drinks despite several orders happening at once. We did not feel like we were waiting very long. I ordered a pour-over with the Finca El Paraiso Peach Colombian beans, which use a thermal shock washed process. That was something I had not heard of before. The tasting notes listed nectarine, tropical fruit, and caramel, and it was recommended since I was looking for something more out of the ordinary. I enjoyed the wilder flavor profile, but it was hard to fully appreciate because the coffee tasted overly diluted. The barista mentioned she used a 15g to 250g bean-to-water ratio, which is higher than how I normally enjoy my pour-overs. My cousin ordered a flat white with whole milk that was very creamy with strong espresso notes. We also ordered a matcha latte for my other cousin, which was apparently too creamy. Overall, the beans themselves were good, but the pour-over leaned watery for my personal preference. The bag of beans used for the pour-over was priced at $32, which is only a bit more than double the cost of the pour-over itself. In hindsight, I felt slightly ripped off and should have just bought the beans instead.

She mentioned that most of the beans here are balanced, and the origin of the beans can be single or multiple, depending on the roast. The flavour profiles, strength and origin are all printed on the packaging along with the roasting date. Along with fresh beans, this location also sells a variety of loose leaf tea and also a large selection of coffee equipment and accessories. Having been searching for a milk frothing container, I have stumbled onto the right place. Brewed the coffee right away at home and the flavour was bright, smooth and fragrant. I'll definitely come back for sure to pick up more supplies! Note: Although there are equipment and a bar visible, the location doesn't serve any beverages. I think it'll be a great idea for customers to sample their beans before buying, so I hope that will come in the future!

But when a smiling, friendly, courteous customer comes your way and you treat them like crap, it's a deal-breaker. The crappy service honestly did not make the decent meal worth it.
