I was recently introduced to The Root Cause Yoga through my workplace. Kathy, our yoga instructor, is professional and very good at what she does. She is patient and works with the group's pace. Sunday yoga takes place at Garfield Park in South Pasadena. What a beautiful park! Perfect place to hold a yoga session under shady trees near the tennis courts. I have attended one session so far. I began attending classes at The Root Cause Yoga back in fall 2021. I had just moved back to SoCal to start a new chapter in life, and was looking to get healthy and grounded. Kathy, was the first person I met who helped guide me to the best shape I've ever been in. (See my reviews for 7Elements of Balance and Ganbatte fitness for the rest of my "team") I had very little yoga experience previously, but Kathy is great about tailoring her classes to each individual's needs. Not only that, she'll remember the specifics, so even if you have been away for awhile, she will know where to pick things up again. Aside from being a super-attentive, caring, hands on, and hands down knowledgable yogi, she also genuinely cares about people and her local community. She often teaches yoga classes and seminars at various community events, and when the weather is nice, even organizes monthly potlucks for us. Attending one of Kathy's classes outdoors in Garfield Park is therapeutic in and of itself. The sun, fresh air, sounds of the trees... and doggies! (We share the park with our four-legged friend after all, and they help bring great energy as well) Once in awhile, Kathy will integrate sound bowls into the session which, in this nurturing setting, brings the experience to a whole other level. I've attended a handful of Yoga sessions hosted by Kathy. Kathy is about as good as it gets when it comes to Yoga instructors -- she is VERY knowledgeable, patient, welcoming, and exudes plenty of good energy. Her classes have been very refreshing for me in lieu of all that has transpired this year. There are many moments where I find myself wobbling around trying to maintain a pose and I'll hear Kathy's voice bringing me back to my breath. She's very attentive and helps correct my form. Her classes are for all levels so I highly recommend trying one of her classes if you're on the fence about yoga. She practices social distancing, wears a mask, and limits her classes to 10 people. She provides hands on adjustments and will ask for your consent before class (she sanitize her hands before and after any adjustments). read more

I have been doing Yoga for 15 years. Kathy Chu is far and away the best yoga instructor I've ever had. Her teaching style is uniquely hers. Every class is structured around the needs of her students, making every session unique. Kathy has excellent knowledge of the body and how to improve it thru Yoga. Kathy brings unmatched energy and encouragement to every class and is very happy to share her life with her students. Her style is slower movements, holding poses to achieve a maximum stretch. Kathy gives very detailed instructions for each pose, helping to coordinate breathing with proper muscle alignment. Kathy welcomes students of all ages, including children (and sometimes dogs!). I've been doing yoga for a few years on and off and I am picky with instructors. Kathy is one of the few yoga instructors I would recommend. She is a certified yoga instructor and also has her certs in prenatal yoga. She is constantly improving to be a better yogi and I admire that. I've been fortunate enough to attend several zoom yoga classes with her from beginner to expert level. I started private yoga sessions with Kathy because of a very painful shoulder impingement. I could not raise my arm above parallel without pain. After only a couple of sessions I began to feel real improvement in motions and pain level. After less than eight sessions I gained full range of motion and am now pain free.
