Meatball sandwich ($14)
Adam B.

Most of the reviews here are for the RI location, even though this page is for the Webster, MA location. I am reviewing the Webster location. Never would I have guessed a restaurant/cafe could be successful in an area like Webster ... perhaps one of the grittiest (to put it nicely) cities in Massachusetts. Famously named as 'the armpit of Massachusetts' ... Webster is not somewhere you'd expect to find a restaurant/coffee shop that feels like Seattle or Portland selling $15 meatball sandwiches and $13 beers. However, despite the sticker shock we had on the pricing, we were blown away by the quality of the food. The first thing we noticed was that the restaurant smells a bit funky ... like feet ... upon walking in. We settled into one of the 'boho' style mismatched tables and waited for our order. Looking around, you'll notice a back wall of locally made art and products for sale. The clientele ranged from 20-year-old hipsters ... to older women ... with a couple people in business clothes working on a laptop. The meatball sandwich arrived, looking like something I would have thrown together in my college dorm room at 2:50 a.m. after a night of clubbing. While not pretty, by any stretch of the means, the flavour profile was amazing and explosive. If you don't love salt, you might disagree. However, the unique combination of spices made this taste almost like falafel. It is the furthest thing from meatballs covered in red sauce and melted provolone you'd get elsewhere. The eggs were made in a cast iron pan with spongy whites and very runny yolks. If you want the yolks a bit firmer ... make sure to ask for them that way. The eggs were local and tasted more eggy than your average mass produced supermarket egg. Very good. The grilled chicken sandwich was pretty mediocre, the only miss of the order. We had coffee, which was expensive ... but one of our group said it was among the best cups of coffee she's ever had. We had shrubs, which are a version of their homemade sodas plus the addition of apple cider vinegar, which gave them a peculiar sour taste, which wasn't bad ... but maybe we'll stick with the regular soda next time. While the prices are a bit high ... we felt that it was worth it for getting locally sourced ingredients and having everything fairly freshly made. As such, the menu is pretty limited and there isn't exactly something for everyone, so if you are taking someone there, make sure you both agree on the menu first. For those who like homemade and well-executed dishes and have a more hipster/boho palate, you'll love it! The meatball sandwich is so unique and flavourful, I'd go back often just for that!

Iced pumpkin spice latte and hot cappuccino

I love it here! 10/10 house made and locally sourced food, and even the coffee syrups are from scratch. Super friendly staff, great ambience. Definitely check it out

O.M.G!!!!!! I wish yelp gave you one * 6* star review that you could use only once/year. And if they did- this would be the coffee shop I'd give it to!!! The energy upon walking through the door felt so good!!!! (Maybe it was all the plants?!) I ordered the brown sugar latte which she told me was also meet with molasses. It was so tasty and rich, *so* much better than any latte made with sugar syrup. I ordered the Whipped Feta Toast special with chili butter and an egg. It was as delicious as it sounds!!! They also sell a few items like t-shirts, bags, maple syrup, reusable paper towels and face oil (from local vendors). A true Locally sourced, hand crafted, farm to table experience. Worth the ride!!!

Stopped by driving through CT. The person at the counter was super friendly and helpful. The atmosphere and decor was incredibly inviting and the food and coffee was yummy!!

I can't believe how many times I've driven right past this place since they opened!!!! I started following them on Facebook since they opened and was meaning to check them out, but just never made it there. Today while I was getting an oil change nearby I decided to take a walk over while I waited. My first impression was "wow, what a great place "!!! Very clean and minimally decorated. There were only a few people sitting inside and no one outside at the seats there. I ordered at the counter and was handed the hand pie I picked on a lovely fine china dish and handed silverware wrapped in a cloth napkin (I just LOVED those 2 little touches). I was told I could have a seat and they would bring my iced latte to my table when it was ready. I picked a little table that seated 2 with lovely fresh flowers on it (they all had fresh flowers). I really enjoyed my beverage and pie (everything is freshly made here with local ingredients when available). I will definitely make a point of stopping here more often, this place is really a little treasure.

We drive here for Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg and then got amazed at this delightful restaurant, cafe, and pub Flavorful espresso with elan service accompanied pesto pasta salad and breakfast salad over cabbage. A must stop by clean, well lit, place to read or listen with relations. Wonderful.

Super cute coffee shop. I love their dedication to sustainability. The atmosphere is comfortable , the food is a little expensive but worth it. They don't have drip coffee but their americano is killer. The owner is there often and she is a kick a$$ lady boss. It's my new go to.

We really enjoyed breakfast at the Rose Room. Plenty for vegans to choose from. We will return next time we're in the area.

High prices, small servings, not enough variety. I personally do not see the appeal past the local hype.

The decor is quirky and inviting, with a long counter and a few tables, giving it that classic diner feel. The staff is friendly and attentive, contributing to a warm atmosphere. What We Tried: Chocolate Chip Muffin: This muffin was a delightful treat--moist, fluffy, and generously studded with chocolate chips. It was the perfect balance of sweetness, making it an excellent choice for a quick breakfast bite. Banana Nut Muffin: Equally impressive, this muffin was soft and flavorful, with a good amount of banana and crunchy nuts. It had a comforting, homemade taste that made it hard to put down. Bagel Sandwich with Home Fries: The bagel sandwich was hearty and satisfying, filled with fresh ingredients. The home fries were grilled to perfection--crispy on the outside and tender inside, a true highlight of the meal. Alley Cat Diner is a solid choice for a casual breakfast or brunch in Webster. The food is comforting, the service is friendly, and the prices are reasonable. While it's a small space that can get busy, it's definitely worth the visit.

On this cool spring visit, we sat inside at a corner table with a nice view of the lake. We ordered: Happy Hour Chicken Tacos ($8) Happy Hour Fish Tacos ($8) Fish & Chips Dinner ($21) Merlot ($9) Cabernet ($11) The tacos are normally $16 for three on the dinner menu, so getting four for that price during Happy Hour is a good deal. Results were mixed. Starting with the positive: the Fish Tacos were excellent. The haddock was perfectly cooked--crispy and flavorful--served in grilled flour tortillas with shredded iceberg lettuce, creamy slaw, pico de gallo, and chipotle lime aioli. Really well done! The Chicken Tacos, on the other hand, were disappointing. The chipotle-braised chicken, along with the toppings, made them feel dense and soggy. Not something I would order again. The Fish & Chips was the biggest letdown. The fried haddock was thin and dry, and the fries were limp and not hot enough. The coleslaw was very good, though. Honestly, if they used the same haddock from the fish tacos here, it would be a big upgrade. Service was good overall, though the dinners took a while to arrive. Bottom line: 3 stars. Still the best restaurant option on the lake, but there's plenty of room for improvement.
