Been here twice now and can't wait to go back to try more. Had a latte from here once but didn't love it. But wondering if it was just the type it was. Would give their coffee another try in future. The pastries were amazing though. The lemon bar - perfection. The brunch braid was okay - I liked the concept but I don't know if I'd get it again. Then came for lunch. Had a chunky monkey smoothie - it was a little watery in the middle but still delicious. The cranberry walnut chicken salad on sourdough was exactly what I was craving. And that sourdough - so good! The place itself is really cute and they sell some local items. There's a blind date with a book section and they sell Hoppy Pop (which is incredible). Gonna keep this as short as I can without being too concise but..,, A oh my goodness!!!!!! So good ! They honestly had me at one simple question about my iced coffee order - "do you want water ice cubes or coffee ice cubes?" PFFT!! is that even a question? That's my gut reactor response to this question each time I'm asked and it's so made me a customer for lifffeeee. Like if you live in boston or nyc I bet this is commonplace for you and you can enjoy a laugh over this as you grip your phone pinky up - but for sweet old Holden mass it's like a tractor beam and I'm stepping in... willingly. my parents greatly enjoy the pastry from this place and I try to surprise them with something new each time. Haven't had anything I haven't liked thus far. I know there are drive through options nearby but this is 100000% worth the stop ! read more

A good selection of pasties, and other desserts along with some breakfast and lunch fair but the quality of the cappuccino and chai latte we had was fair to poor. I had what the delightful barista called the Emma sandwich! It was soo good I could eat 100. Bacon egg cheese and spinach with her addition of the Carmel onion jam. Stopped in this morning with my wife. We had wonderful friendly service. They were very accommodating to make whatever combinations of coffee. Got a filled croissant that was SO GOOD! New to the area. This place feels like a home away from home. Took a star away because the chairs are pretty uncomfortable and they don't always have everything on their menu prepared, but if you stay they will prepare it for you so not so bad. I would give this place 4.5 stars. But the shinning star of this place is the coffee cubes for iced coffee, so it doesn't get all watery and gross. The baked goods are 5 stars as well. The carrot cake here is the best I've ever had, I wish I could eat one everyday and still be healthy haha. The chilli is amazing. The other shinning star of this place is the girls they hire. Each young girl is exceptionally kind and remembers what your order is if you become a regular. They make this place feel safe, and caring! 6 stars for the employee choice! One of the best coffee shops around! The staff are so friendly and the cold brew coffee is awesome. I love that they offer coffee cubes so your iced coffee doesn't get watered down. The pastries are delicious, my favorites being the chocolate croissant, ham & cheese croissant, cinnamon roll, and chocolate chip cookies. The new location is great, plenty of parking and room inside to sit and work or have coffee with friends. read more

Sweets, my love, what happened? I've been coming here for years, memories abound...and I used to think change was good. It's good to see them attempting to try new things by hopping on the froyo fad, but it is now impossible to sit and enjoy yourself with the loud whirring of those infernal machines. The other week I waited 25 minutes for the new manager to make drinks for two people ahead of me before giving up and leaving for work. For all this, thank goodness the quality of the drinks and baked goods haven't changed, but now that they've got a "juice" bar coming I fear the menu is becoming too overwhelming. Sometimes simple is best. Stars given for the fact that I'll still drop in for my delicious chai and occasional baked good (try the cinnamon twists!) but I'll sadly be taking it to go. read more

I was excited to see how cute this little coffee shop was I had driven by for a year. I grew up in the Boston area and finding a quaint coffee shop like this is hard to find. . I was greeted by a sweet girl who was very attentive and ready to assist me. I do wish they had some more non coffee Starbucks type drinks but they usually have 1 or two flavored iced teas a day. I stopped by as I was in town for an eye exam and my eyes were a bit too dilated to drive. It's a lovely cafe with pleasant ambiance. Had a choice of three coffees and the Viennese roast was exceptional. Real coffee! Decide to try a breakfast sandwich and was transported to a new level of deliciousness. The baked egg was so tender and yummy and it was presented on a sweet Portuguese muffin. Thin, slightly crunchy and so much better than an English muffin. Had a nice chat with one of the staff and she gave me an amazing chocolate chip cookie as a welcome gift. I love this place! I live about 30 mins away but will be back. So worth the trip. read more

I go to sweets and java often and always have a positive experience. The staff is very friendly and the owner, Kathy, is excellent. They always have something new to try also! When we needed food for the morning of our wedding and lunch time, we knew sweets and java was the right choice! Kathy was so easy to work with and designed a great menu for us. So, has a few decent reviews and I was out in Holden, so figured I'd swing by. I'm big on buying at local cafe spots and not so much the "Starbucks" for their ok coffee... But I wish there was a Starbucks now. Their food was above average, so I won't complain although it wasn't as fresh as I thought. There was significant bagged goods, the egg sandwiches we're pre-made and heated in a panini press and overall did not present the appearance of fresh, in store made. If you wanted more than egg & cheese, it was pulled apart and added. But again, the food we did get tasted good. The coffee left something to be desired - literally. Coffee flavor was off, somewhere around burnt but tasteless at the same time. I asked for almond milk, which was apparently a bad choice on top of the coffee flavor as it was non-vanilla, non-sweetened, so didn't help the coffee. Oh, and ordering is odd for coffee, you order a medium latte, and they ask how many shots you want. If you're a townie, this place is definitely the spot, everybody knew everybody here, I was definitely the "tourist". If you are a proper coffee person passing through and hoping to snag a great local coffee... Then keep passing through. read more

Today's lunch, a turkey, cheddar panini​ with sweet onion relish was the most delicious sandwich I can remember having in years!! The bread was light, buttery, toasty and fresh. The sweet onion relish...I could eat it on everything!!!! What's one of the greatest things about working in a new town? Finding an absolute GEM like Sweets and Java. before I forget to mention it, you must know it isn't just sweets they serve. There are homemade soups, spicy chili, quiche and grilled cheese - made with grown up cheese!! As far as sweets go, they hit all the marks with cookies, muffins, twists and gluten free offerings. The teas are loose and can be combined to make the flavor you're craving. Currently, I'm am drowning my exhaustion in a pumpkin iced coffee with coffee cubes (complimentary) and almond milk. I have been off the pumpkin bandwagon but my intuition must have known something I didn't. The flavors of the spices are so delicious and authentic tasting, a refreshing change from a sugar laden pump of fake pumpkin whatever that turned me away from the fall flavor. The gracious owner herself offered free wifi, a delicious description of lunch offerings and an inviting, cozy space to spend lunch break in. While visiting family last fall, I was missing my favorite indie coffee shop, The Coffee Studio in Andersonville, Chicago (if you're in the windy city, you must go there!). After some research, I found Sweets N' Java and gave them a quick call. I told them I was looking for a coffee house where I could hang out, read, wi-fi, or, on that particular day, color in one of my new coloring books. If there happened to be comfy seating and a coziness about the place, even better. I was informed that I'd called the right place, so off I went. And it did not disappoint! I enjoyed chatting with the owner, Kathy (Cathy?), as I had been a small business owner too. After commiserating and relating about the ups and downs of small business ownership, I enjoyed a delicious coffee and muffin. Everything on the menu sounded delicious! Now, almost a year later, I am a local resident, and was so happy to see that Sweets and Java was still there! Stopped in after dropping our son off at school one morning. Everything was just as delicious, if not better. Kathy remembered me, a bonus to patronizing small, locally owned business. This time we chatted about vegan options, of which she had several. Our daughter is allergic to dairy and eggs, thus vegan is usually an easy option. The choices all had nuts, great for protein, but another allergen for our kiddo. Bummer. But Kathy was very receptive to suggestions of nut-free as well. All in all, a great little place, whether you're grabbing a quick beverage to go or planning to sip and chill for a while. read more

I have been a couple of times in 2016 -- both in the morning and afternoon - and have had great experiences each time. I hadn't tried any of the drinks other than coffee (my drink of choice) so can't attest to their other drinks offerings, but have had breakfast and lunch sandwiches as well as cookies and found all of their food top notch. Have to say also that I am impressed by the variety of offerings for such a small shop, and loved the recent addition of artwork by local artists. In talking with the owner she just took over, so this does seem like a place that has gone through a few owners over the years -- but it also means that if you came in years ago and had a bad experience my advice is to come give them another try. read more

They even have iced coffee cubes. But the iced coffee was a little under brewed maybe. It didn't have a whole lot of taste to it. Maybe it'll be better next time!
