The service was very friendly and quick, attentive. We started with smoked salmon, and pumkin ravioli, so pleasant and rich to the palette. Proper bread was served earlier on with the butter in the right room temperature. Our mains followed not long after: the glazed pork belly was divine! It melted in your mouth! It was combined great with coconut and chilli rice. My partner opted in for the sea bass: they had added some mild spicy seasoning which tasted really great. I did like the house wine. I came here for lunch with the family, and although it wasn't super busy, with only what looked like a few business lunches on the go, the atmosphere was still great, and felt very elegant, spacious and refined. Despite the menu and some of the decor having a modern edge to it, the actual dining space still feels quite formal and traditional, but I like a bit of a tradition, so that suits me. You can get some pretty good set menu lunch deals here, and it's a nice change to come to this part of the west end, rather than just opting for right in the centre of town all the time. I was just coming from an 11 hour flight, so I didn't get too crazy. I pulled trigger on a pork over bacon mash and it did not miss. The meat was exceptionally fall off the bone tender and the mash potatoes were flavorful and complimented the meat perfectly. One bit of advice - the portions are big so either come hungry or consider splitting an entree. I'd feel confident recommending this place to anyone who thinks that the Scots can't cook. Our server was friendly, although the service felt a little sloppy at times. They also surprised us with complimentary champagne since we were celebrating a special occasion, which was really nice. They actually do sell scones, which are excellent, coming with champagne and strawberry jam and cream. There is often a fairly limited range of baking on offer, but I have never had anything of bad quality here at all. The brownies are outstanding and so is the lemon polenta cake. Good little shop next to the cafe with presents that would suit an arty friend or relative. And have a look at the allotments on your way out - charmingly maintaining what used to be a kitchen garden from when the building was an orphanage.
