I had read the reviews and decided to go anyway. I figured if it had 3-stars that means the place would be a hole-in-the-wall, and the food would taste incredible. I was right. We did have to wait 40 minutes for them to prepare the food, which means it wasn't in stainless tubs, with hot water underneath keeping it warm. You could tell that it had been made fresh, hence the wait. I do agree that it was a little pricey, but having not had my home country's food in a long time, my family and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We live in Atlanta, and wanted to cap the trip up with a home cooked meal. The roti was soft, almost like cake, without the hard edges that I've experienced before, and there were plenty of shrimp in my mum's. Sometimes roti can go down heavy and sit in your stomach, not this, I felt satisfied, but not stuffed. Do not dine here ! The grumpy old lady behind the cash register has taken over this restaurant from her mom. And the trade secrets were not passed down. This place still needs a major update, it has not changed for years. Still the old worn out furniture, damaged painted green walls, old brown floor tiles, old bar, noisy fridge. My friend mentioned is smelled as we waited for our food. And in-fact the place did. Perhaps they need to be revisited from inspectors from the city. Pholourie was oily, burnt, and tasteless. The roti looked ok, but the taste was terrible. The curry was watery, potatoes over cooked, chicken sparse, and the curry was tasteless. It was a waste of $20. And for $5.95 for a patty, that's ridiculous. The patty is from "Lloyd's Patty Plus, and they only cost $2 there. We ended up throwing away our dinner. read more

Such an unfortunate experience: One bara (fried "bread") of each of the two doubles had brown flecks in it and had chewy texture. These were placed at the bottom, obviously trying to conceal improperly prepared/made food. In retrospect, I wish I had taken photos. The server argued that Kola Champagne is the same as "Banana flavor" and that Trinis make a problem out of things. She proceeded to show us that the Jamaican Kola Champagne is the same colour as the Banana Solo... I didn't bother to argue. LITERALLY all you have to do is Google this or have grown up in Latin America or the Caribbean to know this is wrong. The staff listens to Nigerian soap operas so loud you can't hear yourself think. Okay so the customer service was good but that's it. The place is dark and dingy, no love at all. What a disaster...! I ordered 2 bus-up-shut, 2 pholourie 1 chicken curry and 1 potato and Chana curry. The bus-up-shut was was thick plain roti torn up...HAHA LOL. The pholourie was wrong in every way, too oil, to dark and flavour less. The tamarind sauce was water! The curry was chicken breast sliced up (Really), chicken breast! To top it off it was so water, like they chucked water over it to stretch it out... OMG...I don't know what else to say. Utterly dissatisfied with it all. Why I left my house I don't know! I'm from Toronto and new to Calgary so I was looking for some authentic Trini food. I was greeted with a smile and friendly service. The food was delicious. I got curry chicken roti and oxtail rice & peas... both were made to perfection. I would highly recommend The Roti Hut. Two thumbs up! read more

August 16, 2023. I (a trini) tried the chicken roti aloo (alu) pie and the doubles. The chicken roti was very nice considering this isn't Trinidad and Tobago. The chicken was properly curried. The roti skin was so soft. Bess by even trini standards. The aloo pie was hot and crispy. The doubles was ok. Bara was decent. Channa was decent. The price so much cheaper than the other places in Calgary. It pushed me to say 5 stars. Good bang for your buck. Plus excellent service from a tnt national!!! read more

Tried the oxtail with beans and rice and the curry chicken roti. Both were both surprisingly good. I had low expectations going in. I am from Trinidad and used to the excellent roti shops in Montreal and Toronto. The oxtail was very good and the curry was almost there also. The curry was good but missing something to make take it over the top. I would recommend this place. Only complaint is that it is very expensive for Caribbean food. read more

When I give a 5 star, it's because the food is amazing, and the service is what I expect or more. The roti hut is not anything fancy for the decor, but they have a killer Roti, the Roti originated in Trinidad and is a popular dish in the Caribbean, a wrap consisting of an unleavened stoneground whole meal flour, filled with curried goat, or chicken or beef. My favorite is the goat, with chicken a close second. This is a hidden gem for me, I visit once a month for my Spicy Roti Fix, I love supporting small independent places where they take pride in their food and concepts, the menu all looks good but I have only had the rotis and the jerk chicken, both amazing, if you like curry, spice and goat, give this place a try! read more

I ordered here thru skip the dishes july 29th 1230pm and the food arrived in abt 20 minutes which suprised me cause it would take alittle longer. The food smell so bad esp the jerk chicken and i also got a roti wrap with meat in it and samosas, all stunk. So i called skip the dishes and i wanted my refund and they said fine. But whren i checked today august 02 they on refunded 25% of the total amount. Roti hut authorised skip for only that. Definitely they knew what was sent to me was not good so they refunded whatever they decided upon. Bad for business and shame on uou skip the dishes as we rely on you and Roti go suck. read more

Our first interaction upon entering was with the lady behind the counter. She did not say hello, smile or show any attempt to welcome us. After an uncomfortable series of question (met with almost disgust by the lady), we placed our order and waited. We ordered 2 small chicken rotis 2 tiny samosas and paid just over $31. The Rotis had 3 or 4 tiny pieces of chicken and were drenched in sauce requiring us to eat with a knife and fork. Overall, the food was absolutely tasteless. Having grown up in a caribbean family, this is not a true representation of our cuisine and is basically terrible value for your money. We will never return to this restaurant and truly hope that Calgary has another restaurant that better exemplifies the wonderful food of the Islands. Two thumbs down! read more

This restaurant should be embarrassed. 21 dollars for oxtail and the portion is so small they took what regularly one oxtail and divided into 4 small pieces. Really bad experience and does not taste as good as Simply Irie which I highly recommend. Also there is an old lady that is very rude behind the counter. read more

I don't care about decor or service particularly as I ordered take out. The food tasted good, no question. I had a goat roti, it tasted good. I was disappointed tho with the ingredients. There was little goat, maybe 5 small pieces in a medium sized roti. The meal with tip cost about $17-18 so it was a surprise to see frozen hash brown potato's as part of this meal. They add a lot of fat and potato's are inexpensive, I expected better quality ingredients for the price. Poor value is why this review is only two stars. read more
