A pretty amazing hotel right in the downtown area. First, staff was excellent the entire visit. From the front desk to the cleaning staff to the restaurant, they were all friendly and helpful. The room was nicely appointed with a comfy bed and a small sitting area, and great blackout shades. The only issue is the room is that there was also a frosted window to the bathroom, and that had no shade on it. Parking is conventionally located behind the hotel- the staff has directions if the main lot is full. Overall a very good experience. read more

Wonderful dining experience at The Royal. They have a space in the front of the building and a larger dining room at the back. It gets busy on weekend so I highly recommend that you make a reservation to ensure seating. It was pretty lively the night we were there so service was a bit spotty, but all told pretty great meal. Very tasty steak. The duck was ok but a bit dry. The appetizers were also good although a little unexpected. I.e. they didn't come out quite like we thought that they were described. So maybe do take a little extra time to quiz your server on what it is you are ordering. All around though lovely experience and we would go back again. Overall rating 3.5/5 (rounded down on Yelp) We were very much looking forward to dining at the Royal Hotel during a recent trip to Prince Edward County, especially after seeing positive social media posts & reviews. The decor and ambiance of the hotel and restaurant are gorgeous. It gave us Anthropologie/modern secret garden vibes with warm mood lighting and cozy patio benches that truly elevated the dining experience. In terms of service, the host was prompt and for most of our meal, service was attentive. We did notice that when we were mostly finished eating, service quality decreased (e.g., no more unprompted water refills or checking in to see if we were done/wanted dessert). Not sure if it was because the restaurant got busier? The most important part, though, is the food. Unfortunately, this did not meet our expectations. While the presentation was beautiful, the main issue we had was that every dish was too salty (especially the tartare and pasta), making it difficult to taste all the flavours. Personally, I was disappointed by the pappardelle because I couldn't taste anything other than cream and salt, and I found that the pasta itself was a bit too thick and threw off the balance of the dish. Presentation also didn't seem to be consistent, as you can see in the photo with the two exact same pasta dishes that one looked significantly more well-presented (top). Hoping that this is just a one-off incident because I would love to return if the food improves. read more

I have mixed feelings about the Royal. The restored/renovated building is beautifully done, modern architecture modern styling. They have imported some decent chefs from Toronto. The Drake suffers from inexperienced and overbusy staff and dishes lack personal attention by the sous chefs. The result is a small production style menu to be produced en mass with lack of quality control in order to handle the tourist crowds. I have experienced a woke big fish in a small pond attitude - that their reputation precedes their care for customer service. At this price point - I will go elsewhere where my business is appreciated. read more

We didn't stay at the hotel but went to the royal for lunch while on vacation in PEC. The food was delicious, the service was very accommodating and so friendly, the place is beautiful, but best of all they brought 2 etch a sketch to occupy our 4 year olds until the food came! read more

Came here for brunch and was not disappointed ! The dining room is stunning & elegant. Gatsby vibes. Love the open kitchen. Ordered the Royal Breakfast - Potato Pave is a huge standout - crispy & perfect. We ordered two separate pizzas (we were hungover) - one for the table and one to go, both were incredible (we got one white pizza with caramelized onions & one traditional pizza with red sauce & pepperoni). Visiting the county for the week, was delighted to see The Royal was finally done construction and opened for business! Located right on Main St in Picton, the building has a beautiful facade and ambience. We came for dinner on a Tuesday night. At first we were only one of two tables, but throughout the night more and more tables were filling up. The server was very friendly, knowledgeable and polite. The food was very very good! We ordered a few appetizers and entrees to share. The drinks were also delicious! We tried the following: Cocktails: Mule: served with a lot of crushed ice. Really lovely light taste that was not too sweet. County G and T: Made with Kinsip Old Toms Gin - one of our favourites - and their own homemade tonic water. This was a very lovely refreshing G&T. I would've thought it was really really good, had i not tried Kinsips own recipe for G&T which does beat it. But if you haven't tried Kinsips drink, this one is still very very good! Beef tartare: just what you'd expect, simple served with some crostini's. Whitefish mousse: really really good! I think it might be one of my favourites of the night. Little "grainola" on top to add a delightful little crunch. Radicchio salad: to be honest, we only ordered this to make ourselves feel better about ordering all meat and fish it was still a nice fresh salad, but I would've liked more citrus in there to offset the bitterness of the radicchio. French fries: Really good fries! They were seasoned perfectly and nice and crunchy. They also were great to dip into the whitefish mousse and beef tartare. We were having a huge craving and this was just right! Capellini: OUTSTANDING! Might be one of the best pastas I have ever had and I have been to Italy a few times. Filled with unctuous butternut squash in a brown butter squash. This was seriously so delicious. Cheese plate: Came with a variety of Canadian cheeses. One soft, one firm, one blue with a fruit jelly (I am guessing Concord grape) and some nut bread. Really nice entrance into dessert! Lemon dessert: I don't recall the true name, but it was excellent - not too sweet. Lovely lemon custard with blueberry jelly and some crunchy graham cracker. All in all it was truly a wonderful meal, great service, and beautiful atmosphere. read more

Had breakfast this morning in the dinning room. The location was great looking over the back patio. Dinning room was comfortable. We where welcomed at the concierge and escorted to the dinning room. We where again welcomed by Kerry at the dinning room. Coffee/Tea was ordered and arrived and arrived quickly. Water was provided as well. Two orders of "Royal Breakfast" arrived quickly and was absolutely delicious. Two eggs(any style) potatoe pave, sauté collards, strip bacon and toasted sourdough bread(made on premises). A thoroughly enjoyable atmosphere and meal. Definitely worth a return trip... perhaps for lunch or dinner. Shout out to Kerry. Your interaction with dinners makes the experience that much more enjoyable. read more

Sad that someone posted a negative review of a place that's only been open for a month, and has only just been allowed to open fully two days ago. I'm not surprised that the staff were reticent to allow dogs in a hotel, especially one with a takeout counter operating at the time. I'm pleased to say that both of my outings to the newly opened restaurant have resulted in excellent food. The cod with Béarnaise and the Royale burger (medium was perfect) were highlights for me. The slight hiccups with service on Monday's opening lunch service were not repeated today. The staff were pleasant and efficient. Chef Ponzo's food is exquisite and a welcome addition to the County. read more

The service is rude. Walked in for dinner in the bar and although the place was nearly empty and there were five staff in sight, I was ignored by all for about 5 minutes. The bartender was too busy chatting up a customer. The chef, standing two feet to my right ignored me. Two other wait staff pointedly ignored me, after walking right past, and the front desk staff did the same. If you like that kind of snooty-ass Toronto service, you'll feel right at home. Eaten here two or three times before and the service was similarly casual. If I'm going to pay big city prices for a pretentious small town watering hole, the service needs to be fantastic and friendly. read more

Bliss. This hotel is perfect. It's as if the best boutique hotel in Manhattan dropped into Picton. Nothing has been overlooked. Great customer service in an atmosphere that is simply stunning. Excited to spend 48 hours here. We will be back! read more

Hands down the best steak and frites (medium rare on chef's recommendation) & cheeseburger, cooked to perfection. The beef tartare with pistachio garnish was an interesting and highly recommended starter. We were equally surprised with the fish mousse that the server recommended- there was a subtle fish taste (not fishy at all) and overall incredibly light and very fitting for an appetizer. For steak and Frites: The quality of the meat is incredible! The manager mentioned that most of their menu items are locally sourced. This restaurant is hands down the best fine dining I've had. Sick of the highly overrated restaurants in TO and found this to be amazing value for money. Booking in advance is recommened for busy weekends. read more

Typically when I have eaten at hotel restaurants the service is excellent. My expectations of The Royal was to be luxury in all aspects. Decor is pretty but that cannot be the only experience. Hotel employees were engaged in their own conversations and missed the opportunities to greet/thank individuals as they walk in/walk out. I was not expecting that employees not have a styled dress code. We have property here and love to shop local and support local. Food was OK. Prices are not a concern except I would have expected a breakfast menu that was different. read more

Service was slow. Atmosphere was bland. I expected more for the money I paid. It's the details that matter. For example, I ordered the bone marrow for an appetizer and it was served with some super thin emaciated crostini that couldn't stand up to the marrow. The wine list was just OK. The entire dinner was mediocre. The tally was over $300 for 2 people. For that money it was not worth it. read more
