I went to Waupoos for Brunch and the food was amazing. Everything I had I was so impressed by and absolutely loved. Waupoos was one of the wineries we want to check out in the PEC area. It is one of the larger wineries, so they have a lovely estate and grounds to explore. They are even large enough to hold wedding events, as they had some large tents set up for the season. We had spent a sum of money on wine already, so we decided to skip out on the restaurant. Thankfully, there is a food truck in the back of the property by the water that serves food also. We ordered their off menu Pork Carnita tacos, and enjoyed it on the sofas facing the water. The tacos were excellent and obviously well prepared even though it was out of a food truck. I love that there was an other options for food on the property besides the fixed menu. Even better it was away from the crowds and by the peaceful waters. read more

I had the brunch Eggs Benedict with Pork Belly. The egg was the star of the show. The pork belly was tasteless. It's fat, folks!!! How can it be tasteless, but it was. the other flavours. Not there. The potatoes would have been nice but I am used to having them warm. The service. Non existent. I think our waitress came but 3 times in the hour and a half we were there. We were the second table to arrive at Waupoos Estates today for lunch and by the time we left, it was beginning to fill up. We loved everything about this place! Chef Scott and GM, Damian were lovely and amazing hosts. The price fix lunch menu was well worth every dollar. That homemade sourdough pita bread and the very special butter was a lovely starter. Loved this fired roasted Swiss chard salad with lemon gribiche, Fifth Town Parmesan and perch roe. To die for!!! This perch was so very very fresh and was caught within a km from where Chef Scott's team cooked it! I don't like lake fish but as of TODAY, I love perch. Chef Scott gave me some tips on how to "liven up" the flavour and firm up the texture of a fresh piece of lake fish. The seasonal estate grown squash, goat cheese and pickled red onion soup was so tasty. Not a drop left in all three beautiful shallow pottery bowls. Their rendition of apple pie but made with puff pastry, roasted apples, crepe fraiche and my favourite part, freshly picked lavender buds and tiny chiffonade of sage! The flower and herb was a HUGE game changer for me. Dessert went so well with Damian's perfect Americano. Lovely and delicious pairing: GEWÜRZTRAMINER SKIN CONTACT 2020 Amazing aromas of lychee dominate the profile. Notes of grapefruit rind, rose water, honied cantaloupe and hints of spice complete the profile. The aromas carry to the palate - refined and not overwhelming with a zesty finish. We enjoyed every single course. If you've been to Waupoos, you know how that dining room echos. Well, my moans from all of the deliciousness consumed could be heard throughout I'm sure! A cute place to visit. It is almost completely dog-friendly - just the store is off limits for your canine pals. We tried the Cab Franc (very nice) and the smashed apple cider (pretty good). We did not have any food there, but the little grill by the lake looked interesting. The place was super busy, but there was ample room; we found a picnic table and enjoyed the gardens and people watching. I bought one of their logo t-shirts (only $17) which is very a nice keep sake for the experience. All in all, I dug it. read more

Waupoos estate winery is overlooking Prince Edward Bay. Beautiful grounds for weddings or drop by for lunch/dinner and sit outside and enjoy the breathtaking scenario. The winery offers many wines. Stop in for a tasting or two. Tastings are free with the purchase of two bottles of wine. Next to the winery is every kids delight of a chocolatier and Gelato store offering candies and ice-cream and specially crafted chocolates by Donini. We did a little sampling or two and walked away with a nice Rose wine. Wapoos is a place to go enjoy the food, wine and relax next to the waters age. read more

Waupoos is definitely in my Top 3 for PEC wine touring! The interior is comfortable, well-lit and beautiful. They have a wide selection of wines to choose from. The wines are relatively inexpensive for its quality. We bought a bottle of the Red Rabbit on our way out. We tried to grab lunch in their restaurant but they were backed up. The food looked really good and the prices were reasonable. I'd definitely want to come back next time and will make a reservation at their restaurant for food. read more

A terrific business undermined by slow and indifferent service. We were there on a Monday. It took 10 minutes to be told we would need to wait 30 minutes to be seated, despite numerous available tables. We walked the grounds, tasted some wine and came back. The food was good but again the service was just not up to any reasonable standard. Indifferent would best describe their approach to work. It is really too bad because the setting is beautiful and the food and wine are first rate. Not worth the drive for that experience. read more

Pleasant and patient staff in the tasting room. They happily poured us whatever samples we wanted from a list of wines which included prices and info. No food was offered to go with it though. Many bottles are on display. We then purchased one bottle and tasting fees ($1 each) were kindly waived. Afterwards we went next door to the sweet shop and purchased some candy imported from England and some delicious gelato (try the lemon flavour, it cleanses your palette). A single serving is enough to share with 2 or 3 people! You can then take it on a stroll about the rest of the grounds which lead right down to the water. read more

My husband and I had the kids with us so we weren't expecting to stay very long. We were pleasantly surprised. We were just doing a drive-by stop and we were able to taste some of their signatures - I wouldn't say my palate is sophisticated enough to identify great wines or not, even I could tell these were on the lighter side, but we bought a couple of bottles anyway. (I love supporting locals, anyway) The outdoor property is gorgeous and we were lucky to have a beautiful day, weather-wise.My kids were able to enjoy the property and there were even other families with children enjoying the outdoors as well. We couldn't eat at the restaurant but the menu looked divine, and the gazebo and tent look like fine venues for events. There is a candy store there...beware, if you have kids. :-) Across the road is the market and a petting zoo, so I would say that this winery is a decent venue to bring if you have children. read more

We had been coming here for 6-7 years religiously every summer and loved it. The gazebo is an amazing dinner setting and the vineyard is gorgeous. The young Chef works his magic at Waupoos Winery in the winter and teaches Culinary classes at the local university when the frost comes. The manager and our waiter paired a white Geisenheim Vin Blanc to this unsuspecting wine snob. Then, he suggested a meal to remember that included a beef tenderloin paired with an unusual but fantastic gnocci that was prepared like the canadian putin (blue cheese, white wine and other yummy ingredients). It is 8 days later and my mouth is still waiting for another bite. How about the salad? Fresh greens from the area with a lemon vinaigrette that I cant explain, only to tell you that it was wonderful. Dont say "hey, why did he suggest a white with that strong flavor?" Cause it was freaking good that's why. You sit outside around a gazeebo structure and overlook the lawn that pours into Lake Ontario. You can see all of the vineyard all around you. Did I mention that this is a romantic location and that you have to make reservations. Ask for sure to sit outside dummy. Inside the noise just makes it echo and why would you unless the weather makes you do it. You can even take your smaller boat to their private dock. Quality is going down.... We've been here for both lunch and dinner. A couple of years ago there was a wait for a table for the lunch and well worth it - the starter, mains, dessert - all fantastic. Service was attentive, water was refilled without asking, followed up on salt, pepper condiments etc. Then went back for an birthday dinner this summer - same four of us - and on a Saturday night the place was only half full. Had to wait for someone for almost 10 min before getting water and our drink orders. The food was very, very disappointing. We could not believe it was the same place. And the kicker was the comment on by the staff at cash when we were leaving commenting on "are you sure this is right?" as they seemed to feel our sub par tip for their sub par service wasn't expectable. We will not be going back - it's a shame, great location and used to be great food. read more

This place is well known in the area and also has a big beautiful view of the lake. It's a property that is worth exploring on a nice day; weddings are often booked on the back lawn and I think if you wanted to picnic, that would be possible. They also offer lunch / restaurant services, although we were visiting strictly for the wine and tastings! The main tasting and sales area is large and airy. We sampled a range of whites, reds and three different ice wines, all which were very interesting and delightful. They offer two regular ice wines and a maple ice wine. Sample them; it's worth it if you've never tasted them. I preferred the regular to the maple, but you'll have to taste them yourself to see what you prefer! They have a wide selection of wines and proudly display awards that several of their wines have won. I'm all for accolades, so it's nice to see how the wines have performed. I guess my only reason for not making this place a four star is that the entire experience here feels a bit... kitschy. There are a number of additional items for sale within the shop: t-shirts, glasses, wine holders in the shape of shoes - you name it, they seem to have it! This isn't my style, so it doesn't interest me, but some of the wine left and impression so we happily departed with a bottle of the Honeysuckle wine. read more

Waupoos has a beautiful property on the water that is absolutely stunning. Here are a few of the challenges... 1. The wines are just ok. If you like a very light tasting wine, you might find the offerings here good. 2. The gift shop area, where the wine sampling happens, has some nice gifts and gift ideas, but gets crowded. They also make their own maple ice wine, maple syrup and other such items that are quite good. 3. Above the wine area is a beautiful skylight. Unfortunately, it has a number of spiderwebs, flies, etc. Not the best scene directly above a tasting area. All in all, I loved the outdoor area here, but did not find the wines among the best in the area. read more

There is a very large selection of wines available for sampling in their lovely tasting room. The friendly staff are only too happy to help you out, but I think the best part of the facility is the restaurant. The view is spectacular, food is excellent, and there is a large selection of their wines available by the glass to accompany your meal. We had the charcuterie platter to start with, and it came with a very nice selection of excellent meats, cheeses and condiments. Then I had the lamb burger, available on a gluten free bun (nice!) which was excellent! Big lamb flavour, perfectly cooked so it was deliciously juicy, topped with a tapenade that just took the whole thing over the top. Yum! My wife had the smoked meat sandwich made with lots of juicy, falvourful brisket. And make sure you get the parmesan fries - they just go down so well with the food and wine! Unfortunately, after this and the wine, we didn't have room for dessert (maybe I shouldn't have licked the plate and left some room), but others eating dessert were wolfing them down with great glee so they had to be pretty good. From the appetizer to the dessert everything was impeccable, the staff always attentive and never invasive. In fact the service was great. And don't let my use of the word 'impeccable' fool you, there's not a hint of pretense do the restaurant or its staff. Yet, those who are pretentious will find little to complain when they taste the highly professionally made - if gregariously served meals. And should you be so inclined, you can even chat about the Arctic, Peru, Italian singers from the 70's or French deconstructionist philosophers like Derrida with Chef Nathan. For that reason alone, I recommend you visit when there are few people around. Nathan is a person worth getting to know. He's the kind of person that can, however temporarily, restore your faith in the goodness of people. He's kind, funny, cultured and friendly; no doubt, the restaurant owners knew what they were doing, when they put him in charge. To visit Waupoos Winery Restaurant once is to want to return 'real soon like' as they say in the South - and as I like to say, for that matter. I highly recommend the eggs benedict with trout - for dinner. I'm sure good old Benny would have approved this turf to surf...or better stream...variation - both in terms of ingredients and schedule in the grand order of culinary chronology. Who said you can't have eggs for dinner? 'Variation on the stream' by chef Nathan Isberg is what I call it. Legend has it that Lemuel Benedict, a Wall Street broker who happened to have gotten drunk one night in 1894, wondering about New York City looking for an antidote for the hangover the next morning. Having amassed a small fortune, and having maintained sufficient wits to remember this fact, he decided to stumble in the Waldorf Astoria, whereupon he ordered a combination of toast, butter, bacon, poached eggs and hollandaise, thus creating one of the most delicious breakfast items in western history. Certainly, the first time I tried them, as a budding teenager, I thought to myself: "I'm in there". I mentioned the trout because it helps set the tone for the foods on offer at the Waupoos restaurant. Apart from the local wines (yes, you guessed it, Waupoos Winery Restaurant does have a winery attached to it), the menu represents a journey through the flavors of Prince Edward County, enhanced and enhanced by the chef's expert hands and taste. More than a dinner, this is the place to enjoy a lovely experience. It's a wonderful place, located right on the bank of Lake Ontario, whose view alone is worth the time needed to get there - even better if you happen to be visiting the county, staying at one of the lovely Airbnb homes (I stayed at Cowbelle House, just 5.0 km away) or inns near Picton, ON. - you can go by bicycle if you like. Picton, by the way, is home to one the characters in one of the most famous Canadian novels (and related acclaimed movie) of the past 50 years (the English Patient) at least one visit. I'm sure Count Lazlo de Almasy and the novel's author Michael Ondaatje would approve. This restaurant is an authentic and therefore rare expression of the uncontaminated territory (for now) that surrounds it. With fun and imagination - and most of all with kindness - the chef pays homage to, enhancing, local products. Fresh water fish are on the menu, as are local meats, restaurant made salamis, duck prosciutto, marinated vegetables and pear slices, perhaps rabbit - Waupoos does mean rabbit in the native language of the region. And of course, all dishes the dishes are cleverly enhanced by wild and more domesticated herbs. The wine and beer list are local, naturally, and definitely worth trying - including some of the local beers and an interesting local version of Lambrusco (a sparkling red). It's a very special place. A taste journey full of surprises, from the beginning to the end. Welcoming and very kind people, who make you feel at home in a lovely and tranquil place. Oh, and the desserts were delicious - and hardly trivial. Unexpectedly, delicious variations on a panna cotta, made special by the chef on the spot and with no fuss. We had a local starter salad, fish of the day, with fennel and celery with a delicious sauce. and pork chops with smoked carrots, Gewurztraminer wine and chocolate and the carrot cake dessert. $140 incl tax and tip. Perhaps to generalize I found the flavours and portions slightly wanting with simple selections from the kitchen, given the price point. Good service. The view and Waupoos hamlet/country flavour is 6/5. Its definitely worth visiting to taste some wine and stroll the grounds. Horrible and slow service. Visited this location over the May long weekend on a Saturday at 2pm. Even though there were only 5 tables seated we waited 10 minutes before being greeted, waited another 10 minutes before being seated, and the waiter came to take our order after another 10 minutes not realizing he didn't even provide us with a menu. Had to remind the waiter to bring our drinks after waiting for those. Overall horrible service! The waiters were more concerned about getting the tables ready for dinner service than serving the guests who were there. You can find somewhere else in the county for a better experience. I had the baco noir and it was very light and almost tasted carbonated, not exactly the full bodied experience I was hoping for. My group had a terrible experience at the restaurant. The service was perhaps the worst that I have ever experienced. It was ridiculously slow, inconsistent (as in they cleared half the table and waited 20 minutes to clear the other half), and borderline rude. At no point in time did anyone provide an explanation for what was happening. So we don't know if it was a kitchen issue, lack of staff, etc. There was never an apology even though the server and other staff knew we were experiencing major issues with the service/meals. Appetizers were fine, and those who ordered the gnocchi said it was delicious. The main issue were the entrees. EVERY single person had an awful meal, overly salted and undercooked were the main complaints. It was truly horrendous and unfortunately not an exaggeration. Had either the service or food been tolerable, I would never have written a review. However, both were awful and there was zero attempt by anyone to make our experience better. They ruined our evening and seemed not to care at all. It was made worse as we were there celebrating a momentous occasion. I really wonder why they are in this business. This was our favorite winery in the area. The grounds are beautiful. We ended up buying some chocolate, wine and also eating at the restaurant. The restaurant food is good along with the service. Probably the best service we have had in the area. The only disappointing thing was they charged us for the wine tasting despite us having bought a bottle of wine from them. Generally, most other wineries in the area have complimentary tasting if you purchase a bottle of wine from them. read more

Wonderful experience on a bright sunny warm Fall day ! The tour was quite informative, friendly and relaxed, but a bit short. It would have been nice to take a short walkabout through the vineyards. Wine tasting was included. Although the wines had a wonderful aroma, the taste did not necessarily match the smell. We then went to the restaurant. After the wine tasting, I felt a bit woozy and needed some food in my tummy since our wine tasting took place before lunch. I tried to order some bread and lunch but was politely told we had to order drinks first. I then asked if there was a bread basket of some kind. I was told they don't serve it at lunch, but he might be able to find some crostini. I found it strange he would just serve a few on a small plate for me!!!! We FINALLY were able to order our meals. From our group, 3 of us ordered the rib eye special for $25 each. We were asked how we liked it. My 2 friends ordered it medium rate on the rare side, I ordered mine medium on the pink side. Again, surprising to find we were served steaks 1/4 in thin if that, and definitely cooked more than pink or rare. Disappointing but it was still tasty.
