I try to stop whenever I am in Mineola. If you and a friend decide to go, there are several places to have lunch in and around downtown. Take a right on 80 and travel 1/2 mile to Logans - all kinds of cuisine or burgers - go left on 80 and its one business down on your right (East Texas Burger)..then shop til your car is full at APET. It was a three and a half hour drive for us to get there from our house near The Woodlands. The Greater Piney Woods of East Central Texas between Huntsville and Tyler were a sight to behold and to this day, make me happy to be a Native Texan. Small towns, like Quitman, hide gems within their city limits. Stitchin' Heaven is one such place. Hitting the parking lot, you realize tuis is much more than a quilt shop. It is a quilters destination, a cloth clubhouse for anyone wanting to stitch up folk art. They have classes and retreats for those that desire to learn this ancient art of making bed coverings. We spent about an hour inside ... the Wife browsing, I, just gawking at the displays of true hand made beauty. Fantasy Quilts, Traditional ones, special themed ones all were draped along the walls to stare at and wonder. Wonder how someone could dedicate so much time and effort to achieve this work of love and art. I came out of there with a new appreciation of what thread, needles and a good set of shears can do to a bolt of cloth. If you are ever up there, stop by and just see the hanging quilts. Great price points for everyone. 3 for $100 canister sale (large, medium, small) when we visited. Masks are required. Normally they are closed Sunday and Monday. But they are open Sunday on the flea market weekends. The owner is very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable of the color history. They just received a shipment the day before so some seconds were outside in crates. We had some great finds but be prepared to dig around for what you want. The 3rds are pretty dusty and dirty, inside the store they have towels and glass cleaner to use, which helps with the search. If your okay with a small flaw here or there then the seconds are for you. The 3rds will take a bit more hunting to find just the right dish. Either way you can really stock up. If you love Fiesta this is definitely a place to check out.
