What better way to enjoy the different music venue's here in the city of Woodland Hills. I personalty have been attending these concerts for about 20 years and every year they get better. Sure many cites do have Concerts in or around different area's of Southern California,maybe this is 1 of the reason's we all live here. Music for all ages. Plenty of different food vendors and local merchants who sponsor the different concerts and movies in the park. Clean park and clean restrooms. A couple of important things. First is parking can be an issue,however there is parking available for $10.00 across the street and all monies go back into this event. Second there are no open fries allowed,no BBQ's, and sorry to say Alcohol is not allowed. There is an area here in the park for you to enjoy a cold glass of beer,but must drink it in the designated area. I had no idea until recently that stagecoach inn museum offered their lawn and space to accommodate events. Sweet location, but parking can be tight if you do consider having an event here. There's a park with public parking next door, but once that lot is filled, good luck finding parking within convenient walking distance. Highly recommend checking out the museum doing business hours.

Even though my expertise is in Medieval, Renaissance and Restoration Europe; I am passionate about much of history. Basically, I am saying I am a history buff both academically/professionally and leisurely. California is rich in history from the indigenous people of Mexico to Missionaries to the Gold Rush to motion pictures to everything in between. One piece of this history sits locally in the Los Angeles/Southern California area where proprietors from all parts of the country made the trek to the 'Wild Wild West' frontier. You can re-live this history in the Stagecoach Inn Museum in Newbury Park. Let's give a quick history lesson... In the late 1800s, before Newbury Park was even called Newbury Park, the Grand Union Hotel was built as a stopping point for travelers from Santa Barbara and beyond to Los Angeles south. This area was purchased by the Newbury family (you get it now?)  who named it after themselves and the wooded area. The Newbury family initially tried to strike it rich with using the land for crops but after years of crop failure due to little rain; they had to find another way to survive and opened the first post office in the area (which was initially a tent!). The Grand Union Hotel was moved to make way for the burgeoning 101 freeway and ended by burning down by fire (no one knows the exact cause of the fire).  To celebrate this Conejo Valley history, Newbury Park constructed a replica of the Grand Union Hotel about a block or so away from where it originally stood currently at South Ventu Park Road (free parking lot or street parking available). The compound consists of the hotel replica, The Timber School which is an accurate imitation of a one room school house that served the area, a blacksmith shop, a Chumash "village" (basically a yurt), a Spanish Adobe home, and Newbury Pioneer House and thus showcases all eras of peoples/history that once stood in the area.  Some "hiking" paths around the property are also available. This sounds fantastic... in theory. Unfortunately, in execution it is quite cheesy and maybe better suited for very young children. The pioneer house is sort of 'cool' as you can walk through this 'Little House on the Prairie" - style cabin and transported back into what it would feel like to live in such accommodations as a docent explains the history. The Chumash Village is nothing more than a yurt and an awning that takes .2 seconds to traverse while the Spanish Adobe House seems inaccurate in construction materials but what do I know. The blacksmith shop wasn't attended during my visit so I didn't get to experience it fully; but it does contain actual proper tools. This part of the compound simply feels a bit "half-assed", so to speak. The Grand Union hotel replica - the actual Stagecoach Inn in this case - is two floors (plus small gift shop) that you can walk through the rooms some of which are set up to exemplify their actual functions like kitchen, dining room, bedrooms, etc; while others hold permanent or temporary exhibits like art made from real hair that was popular during the Victorian era (VERY weird), a room full of clothing irons from various timeline periods, a room filled with gramophones (I loved this because I have a tattoo of one), etc. The weird thing about the Stagecoach Inn is that it jumps back-and-forth between history versus staying true to the California late 1800s as far ahead as WWII as docents explained that the dishware in the dining room came from Germany during WWII (so, stolen from the Jews --- why is this here in a frontier replica?!). Some of this place simply does not make sense and being a historian - I take historical inaccuracy personally. Also awkward are the overuse of very creepy mannequins in each room including the 800 dolls in the children's bedroom that I was just waiting to attack me via a horror film. Both corny and cheesy; I could have done without.  It doesn't take long to walk through the museum and it is just a little unappetizing. My favorite part of the Stagecoach Inn Museum grounds was the Timber School. It is the least creepy and best in terms of historical merit with school desks, chalkboard, books, a wood burning stove, a working school bell tower, etc. It looks exactly like all the photos of one room school houses. I have to give a shout-out to the docents at Stagecoach Inn Museum. These are all unpaid volunteers and yet I have never seen such enthusiastic, happy museum employees. They are almost aggressive in their zeal to share the history of the area/buildings and because of this: you will truly retain the information they pass. The Stagecoach Inn Museum isn't terrible; don't misunderstand. It is just cheesy and a stretch calling it a 'museum'. I would say it is more of a history center and best suited for school field trips for the locals versus adults.

Firestone Fieldhouse is one of the homes of Pepperdine University athletics. The Waves basketball…read moreteams and volleyball teams play in this intimate gym. There are two seating options: wooden courtside bleachers, and theater style seating above the bleachers. A glass partition separates the two. If you are in the student bleachers, you might be standing the entire game. Sitting in the first few rows of the theater seats is not desirable. People will often spot a friend in the last row of bleachers and stand there to talk, leaning over the glass, obstructing the view of the court. If you purchase seats on the visitor's side of the gym, you probably will not encounter this problem. A concourse with bathrooms, a merchandise cart, and a concession stand is on the west side of the gym. Food and drinks are relatively inexpensive. Alcoholic beverages are not served. The concourse opens up to one end of the court, where you can stand and watch the game very close to the action. Wheelchair spaces are also available in this location. Pepperdine's expressed interest in getting a new gym from time to time, but I hope they do not. I would miss the intimacy that makes sports events at the Firestone Fieldhouse so fun to attend when there's a packed house.

It doesn't matter if you sit in the front or way in the back. The seats are comfortable and the theater seats a couple hundred. It isn't a massive theater but it's nice enough for musical performances. The parking is easy and for events they usually do a free lot with shuttle service.

When you come around the corner and get that initial glance of the theater your heart skips a beat at its allure. It's an (all volunteer) community theater. It relies on volunteers and donors to keep it operating. In 2019, it is celebrating 61 years. They're doing something right. The 2019 season has some great shows lined up. Just passed was To Kill A Mockingbird and Sweeney Todd. Currently showing is Disney's original movie adapted for the stage, High School Musical. Coming up is Avenue Q, Proof, Much Ado About Murder, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Pippin and more. Check their website for dates and times. There isn't a bad seat in the house. It seats 185. If you have yet to see a production at this endearing, little theater, I urge you to find a show you'd like to see and not delay any longer. Buy tickets and go!

This annual event hosted by the Rotary Club offers family fun without an admission fee. Yay! From…read morethere, you're on your own as far as how much or little you want to spend. Different zones were laid out this time, which seemed logical to me. These included Kid Zone, Pet Zone, food & beverage vendors, craft show section, and a sprinkling of local nonprofits and also for-profit businesses. I did notice that the Kid Zone had arts & crafts, plus a bungee jumping opportunity. The jumping was $10, so I hope they gave the kids a long time to bounce once harnessed into the equipment. Arts & crafts may have been free; didn't check too closely. Noticed that the number of booths seemed lighter than in past years. There were gaps along the route where either the vendor was a no-show, or they didn't sell the space in advance. A persistent breeze made it challenging for anyone trying to offer a mirror for patrons to check out their potential purchases, especially of clothing items. A mix of jewelry, purses, hats, clothes, household crafts like pillows, and more were available to tempt shoppers. One of my favorite people, Linda, with Twisted Temptations jewelry & fashion clothing, was there again. I found several seasonal items at her booth. Score! Always nice to perk up the wardrobe and visit with a kind person. Some of the other vendors I recall from years past weren't there this time, which made it a quicker run-through for me. Dear Hubby and I went over to the food and entertainment zone to watch a country-western band play for awhile. Finding seats under the colorful umbrellas, we soon learned that it might take a couple of beers to be mellow enough to appreciate the group. They were "pitchy" as they used to say on American Idol, on the singing side. The instrumentals were fun and high energy. A number of local craft breweries were on hand, with the standard charge at $6, reasonable these days. Didn't check out the food booths, as we'd had lunch on the Garden Tour not long before. Finished off by checking out some of the classic cars at the Car Show part of the event. I have loved antique autos for many decades. It was nice to see so many shiny examples of early design. DH mentioned one family had owned a '56 T-Bird continually since she came out of the showroom; with original paperwork on hand for the sale. That's impressive! Always worth checking out this salute to community spirit each April. Kudos to the Rotary Club for putting on an event that everyone can gather together to enjoy.
