Jo is the absolute best. Top quality massage. Especially feet and hands. And I work with a computer mouse all day so having someone really dig in there and undo the damage I insist on doing to myself is wonderful. It is a little weird to find this place and you will have to pass approximately 200 personal trainers down the hall, but its in a cute lil spot once you're in there. They also offer cryo treatments in case you want to freeze your head. I admit I don't really know if that's what it's for. I had a massage last week and had been looking forward to a relaxing experience for days based on the reviews of the business. Sadly, this place was a disappointment. The location is super odd and not easy to locate. I guess I'm used to more luxe spas, but the environment was not relaxing or calming. The actual massage was ok but my therapist talked about extremely personal experiences through the entire 90 minutes and I was spit on while on my back accidentally more than once because of all the talking. I reached out to the owner, because I would want to know. I didn't want to get anyone in trouble, but I just felt the entire experience was unprofessional. The space is basic, carved out of the basement of a building in East Rock, but it is clean and pleasant. I ve gotten worked on by abt 10 studios in the atea and feel thid one is best. Since covid i ve been going for abt a month. They are careful abt cleaning and have air cleaners in each room. I was at Yale for a two week training and they housed us in the dormitories....and the twin sized plastic thin mattress was playing havoc on my back and neck. After a week of dorm-living I sought out a massage place in the area. Came across the Serene Spot on yelp, and I'm typically skeptical about Yelp review sometimes when it has a 5-star rating. Came here...there were some confusion about the appointment because it seemed someone else took my appointment spot! They were extremely apologetic and one of the therapist who was on break offered to do my massage in one of the sports medicine room. As I was here to get the knots that's been forming in my neck and back, I didn't care where I got my massage as long as I go those knots out. I got the deep-tissue massage and she definitely worked on getting those tensions out of my back and neck. Even after my one hour was up, she didn't stop because she wanted to make sure all the tensions were out of my shoulder area (so technically I got a 70 minute massage). She even took $10 off my total because of the appointment confusion, which wasn't necessary as she gave me a very good massage, but much appreciated. If I lived in the area, I would definitely be coming back here but I'll be back in California next week.
