When Steve and I were planning our trip to Austin, Texas we realized fairly quickly that we didn't…read moreknow the city very well at all. In previous vacations we took bus tours to get a little bit more familiar with the city and that is what we did with Austin. Only this time we rode a Double Decker bus! I have seen this kind of bus tour here and there and have seen it when I am in Seattle. Officially I think after this particular bus tour it was my first time riding a Double Decker bus. The weather was typical spring weather on our entire visit but the day we chose to take this tour it was nice and warm and a perfect time to go ride this bus followed by rain for a few days (This took place in April). The ride was so much fun and the tour guide was great! Austin is definitely a different cut than the rest of Texas and that was reflected in many of the people we met. Open mindedness being one and we really felt that with the tour guide. He was so knowledgeable of the city and the neighborhoods and all that made this bus tour all the more amazing. But of course they would probably have staff with personalities that would be compatible in this way. Riding on the top of the bus was so much fun. A few times we had to duck from tree branches and I lowered my head a few times from the traffic lights but that was just me getting nervous with being that high to a light. You see all the sights, famous buildings, museums, local culture, restaurant recommendations and so much more while on this tour. So this was a great experience! I was in Austin proper once a very long time ago and saw just how much it's grown. So it was cool getting acquainted with the city one more time thanks to this bus tour!

I was so looking forward to finally taking a tour of the city. I've been coming here visiting my…read moreson for the last dozen or so years and I've never done it. At first, I sat on the upper level. It was wonderful to be out in the fresh air. However, the sun was a little too much for me so I had to move down to the inside area. I was the only one down there which was fine, but it was really quite filthy. There was thick gray dust on the top rail of all the seats and the fabric on the seats themselves was all thick with black grease. The tour guide was really wonderful. Entertaining and knowledgeable with one exception that was actually kind of disturbing to me personally. When we got to South Congress he talked about the "I love you so much" wall. His story of a husband painting it for his wife could not have been more wrong. It was in fact done by an artist named Amy for her then girlfriend Liz an infamous Austin hotelier and restauranteur. It is an incredibly iconic part of Austin history and if it's told it should be not fiction. I hope for sure this can be corrected for future tours.

We were able to book about a month and a half out and Patrick was very easy to set things up with. After a little confusion regarding cars and schedule Saturday morning our driver, John, arrived. He was extremely courteous, gave a few suggestions regarding wineries and the basic plan for the day and was very nice to spend the day with. Patrick was obviously concerned with making sure we were getting the service we wanted and very friendly when we ending up running in to him at one of the wineries. All in all, this is a great service. They care about their customers having a good time and enjoying their trip. I would recommend them and use their service again in the future! What a fun filled day!…read more The Exotic Resort Zoo. Wow! This family owned safari park was so much fun! You can drive through or take a guided tour. Definitely do the guided tour! You get up close and personal with over 700 animals representing 45+ species. There are many species of deer, kangaroos, camels, llamas, emus, ostriches, antelopes, water buffalos, bison and more! We saw two new baby bison! One was born about 2 minutes before we arrived at their pasture. Another was just under a day old! You can feed the animals too. Look at the tongues on those highland cows and bison . There's also a petting zoo. We had a small group and our tour guide, Nicole, was fantastic!

The owner has been crying about my review to Yelp over and over, begging for it to be deleted over…read moreand over. Because he has no real defense about my critique, he's been straw manning that my review is "mean" and "hateful" -- haha this is what softies in America do these days. My family and I visited this place in early Sept 2025. Like many other negative reviews state, the animals are in a sad state. They have something called the Giraffe Experience there, where you gotta pay $5 per person, they give you lettuce, and you go up on a platform to feed the giraffes. There was an employee -- I requested the Giraffe Experience from her. She condescendingly explained to us that they were out of lettuce to feed the giraffe, so we couldn't do it. I asked, "Well, can we at least go up on the platform to see the giraffe from up there?" She rudely replied "You can, but you'd still have to pay the full price of $5/person." I started to say something, but she rudely said "Think about it and let me know", turned her back to me, and walked away. How rude! I walked over to her at the front desk and asked "Well, since y'all ran out of the food, and we'd just go up to the platform to see the giraffe, could we at least get a discount?" Now here, the defensive Owner will say "It was after Labor Day weekend and we ran out of lettuce!" This is such a lame excuse. Labor Day weekend and resultant high volume demand from it is completely predictable, and the correct action by them would have been to anticipate that and stockpile lettuce accordingly. This is basic inventory mgmt that any decent business owner should know. But this guy just makes excuses. But that's fine, I get it, rinky dink business owner is an amateur and made an inventory mistake by running out of lettuce. Fine. Then take ownership of that mistake and make up for it to your customers by letting them at least go up on the platform for free. Why on earth should they still have to pay the $5 bc YOU ran out of lettuce? It is illogical. The point wasn't the money, it's the principle... despite them screwing up by not having lettuce, this employee, instead of being apologetic and trying to make it up to us somehow, was rude and dismissive. I then asked to speak to the Manager. As is unfortunately often the case, rather than let me speak to him, she went into his office (which was right there, adjacent to the front desk), and biased him to her version. The Manager told her no, and she came and smugly told me the same thing. I was of course right in the doorway, the Manager could've easily talked to me directly, but he did not. So I asked him directly this time "I understand y'all ran out of the lettuce, and that's ok, but if we only go up to the platform to see the giraffe, sans lettuce, shouldn't there be a discount on the fee?" He started giving me the standard bureaucrat-flexing-his-muscles excuses of why they couldn't do that. Again, condescending and dismissive. I told him "Ok, this is unfortunate bc until now we've had a good experience here. But now I'll have to leave a negative review." He said he was fine with that. I asked him for his name. He refused to give it to me, instead stating "You can look it up on our website." And he was lying about this btw -- his name is not on the website. If they guy is gonna take a stand, why not share his name? And this from a "Manager" who is in the customer service business, unbelievable. Again, don't expect any ownership or apology from this Owner. He's gonna leave defensive comments, and then go cry to Yelp to have it taken down, again. Look at all the other negative reviews of this place -- that tells you what you need to know. There was barely anyone here when we went -- it will likely be out of business anytime. And with this kind of ownership, management, and employees, it's no surprise why.

The process for booking the tour was simple as it can be done online or in person. Patrons purchase tickets and are given a schedule of when the bus departs from the meeting point and of the sights the bus stops at. When entering the bus, patrons are permitted to sit wherever they choose on the double-decker bus. The Things elected to sit on the top deck in the baking hot sun (not recommended on a TX summer day). The tour is what you make it. You can craft your own route as the bus routes are designed to take you near the main landmarks in the city. By taking the hop on, hop off option, you can change routes and discover the city at leisure. The bus stops are multiple locations along the route, and the bus driver provides fun facts about the places along the bus route. While I didn't learn anything new about my city, The Things did. This is a great option for those looking to do something different in their own city or for those who are visiting S.A. for the first time.

We did have problems understanding due to bad acoustics on one of the buses. Another bus broke down. (It was replaced in 15mins). Because we hoped off and got back on, we had multiple drivers. One was really good... wish I knew her name (sorry). But she was informative and played music on her iPod when she wasn't talking. (Nice) One driver however, literally talked to the two women in the front seats about the Pink Concert that was happening in the evening. I was thinking.... Tell me about the damn history!! I just did a tour in Austin that was a lot cheaper and was way more fun and informative. (But it wasn't a hop on/hop off tour) Wasn't horrible, but I wouldn't do it again. Could have driven to most of the stop and even with parking, would have been cheaper.
