We arrived early which caused a little bit of a problem, but the staff solved that and put us at a bigger table with the strict instructions we must be done in 1.5 hours. Still, I think they were a little annoyed with us. I ordered the Fish and Chips which as delicious. A nice big portion with crispy fish and crispy chips (fries). I'd probably go back if I were in the area again. This was especially convenient as we just got off a bus day trip one block away.

The drunk group left and it got nice and quiet and so did the woman who had a better table than we did so we took her table. Nothing we drank was anything we'd ever come back for. There are way too many good pubs in London. Unless everything else is closed and this is the only option, go elsewhere!

Summer: What a perfect spot. I can't believe it has taken me this long to get across the river and really get treated well! The staff, every single one of them it seems, are really genuine and helpful. I had a chat with them about reserving a table on a Sunday (they don't do it as a rule) however they bent the rules when they heard that we were intending to be a big party. Very accommodating. The area around this place is run down and kind of strange to be honest, I think it only helps The Ship to shine. They have a great outdoor BBQ area, a more formal interior dining area (with another menu) and great chunky wooden tables scattered about. The glass frontage is perfect for a sun trap, in the right weather so is their outdoor area! Can't rate this place enough, it's a real gem of the old fashioned hospitality variety. Not too much polish but plenty of sparkle. ---------- Winter: (UPDATE!) So I saw The Ship Inn in the summer and figured I knew the place. Wrong! Last nights dinner showed me that it isn't all sunshine and BBQ's. It was calm and cosy, roaring fire, plenty of space. The same attentive staff, but this time they have had a mini refurb. Better toilets is always a bonus, but more than that they have a new head chef. From the amazing meal I had I think he's head of the London chefs! Well presented lamb falling off the bone, caviar deep fried on aubergine paste, slivers of duck, cherry glass shards... al details address right down the the rock salted butter for the crusty baguette. The Ship is paying attention, they offer discounts to their twitter followers (@ShipWandsworth) and change their menu daily- the 'specials board' is the traditional, a burger, a pie etc, the menu is sophisticated and balanced. With a private dining room (for 12 or more) a huge restaurant, and for those a bit braver in the surprising sunshine there is smoking and non smoking outdoor areas. Add to this a live band every Sunday with dancing on the table allowed, and a quieter Tuesday night Irish band... your hard pressed not to come to this destination pub and stay till the wee hours. read more

Decided to go to lunch today at the Ship, as I had seen good reviews and had drunk there occasionally.Well food OK, what do you expect for barbeque? Service is strange as I was asked for a mobile number so they could text me when food was ready, I didn't realise I had to go and get my food, instead of it being brought to me, no wonder they did what they did, see laterAs for the outside, well it is South London, and there is a cement factory across the road, so views are not what they could been and the seating is haphazard, at least the clientele are very nice, no yobs here, even if it was August and the schools are on holiday, all the customers were very respectful, and pleasant.The only issue I had was after arriving home, I notice that the actual charge they made was not what i had paid, as I was overcharged by 3GBP, and as such i didn't notice that instead of a *6GBP charge it was charged at *9GBP (3GBP difference, I know is not the end of the world, but if they do this to everyone, they how much are they overcharging customers by, especially as they say they do not charge service on top of the bill, yet the customer has to go and get there food when it is ready!Maybe the 3GBP charge is for the text message they send you to say your food is ready to collect, rather than they bring it out to you?Anyway i am not sure I would go again, unless I had cash and paid what was written, certainly I wouldn't set up a tab (as I did in this case) as they obviously try and rip you off as they presume (like me) you a) wont notice or b) not care, or c) not notice and therefore not be aware they do do this; how many of us simply pocket the credit/debit card receipt and not the actual food and drink receipt when we leave (that is the reason I noticed, as I picked up both)?I have seen this pub packed on weekends and evenings (especially in nice weather) and I wonder how many unsuspecting people have had this happen to them?Visited August 2013 read more

Since I've moved to London, about a year and a half ago, I have only lived in the North. So last night 's BBQ tasting at the Ship Inn was officially the best time I've ever had on the Southern side of the river. I'm so glad to have discovered this pub. Its enormous and pretty beer garden made me long for warmer weather even more than I usually do, which means extra points to the amazing chefs. Why? Because I didn't mind at all to stand outside to try their dishes straight from the BBQ. We were supposed to have just a quick starter and go back inside but, before we noticed, everyone was stuck into their devilled kidneys, burgers and ribs, completely ignoring the low temperatures. Said burgers were a mixture of beef and lamb, served with chutney and a delicious mayonnaise that has been topped up with a touch of mustard. You don't need to reinvent the wheel to serve delicious food, just make sure every ingredient is very very good. But what really won me was the Pig In A Jar. A sort of pork terrine, very lean, that was like heaven on toast. If they Ship Inn made it to go, in those cute little jars - or in any jar, actually - I would have certainly bought some to take home. The side dishes were on the same level. The niçoise made with chargrilled tuna was a good idea, and the buffalo mozzarella that came on the other choice of salad was top quality. To drink, we had the chance to taste the ales from Sambrook's brewery, another good reason to go the extra mile(s) South and visit the Ship Inn again. read more

South-West London's finest, weighed in at a portly £12.00 but did come accompanied by some delicious fries. The burger itself consisted of a chargrilled beef burger with cheese and pickled cucumber. Simple but effective? Damn straight! The burger delivered a taste sensation. The patty delivered on taste, texture (somehow being coarse and chunky, whilst remaining smooth and tender) and it didn't squirt juices all over the place. It really was incredible. The toppings were excellent. The lettuce and onions were fresh and crispy, the pickled cucumber was sharp and contrasted the buttery brioche and dense beef flavour brilliantly. The cheese was also delectable. I read somewhere that they don't just put the cheese on top, they melt it down, add butter (as well as secret other ingredients), season and then reform it before placing on the bun. I'm not sure if this is true but it did seem extra special. What set this apart though was the brioche bun. Equally as good in flavour and texture as many of its London counterparts but much more sturdy on the bottom, holding the contents together masterfully! read more

A great pub for the summer. Definitely worth the trip to Wandsworth if the weather is good. Lots of outdoor seating and they usually do a barbecue at the weekend. Nice views of the river (not the most picturesque riverside location, but still quite pleasant). Burgers are excellent and staff are always nice. IF YOU GET LOST - It's just behind Mcdonalds by the big roundabout. It doesn't sound very tranquil, but you will be pleasantly surprised. read more
