This is Indian Castle Travel Plaza in the town of Little Falls…read more I prefer Chinese Fortress Journey Square in the city of Big Getsbackup. But this will do. The problem with Indian Castle is the same problem that all the service areas have along the overpriced and annoying Interstate 90 in NY, which is that it's just extremely overpriced and in an intolerable and disgusting way. I'm not a big fan of these stops anyway, but with these prices for gas and for food and for all the crap chains (charging more than those chains would off-highway) that they have here, what's to love? What I am a fan of is that it's a safe place to sleep for a while. But don't sleep for too long because you know what's going to happen. Or if you don't: They're going to accuse you of trying to rip them off when you get off at the toll booth, because you were on their massively overpriced highway for too long. Charming. And my ancient review once said: I don't like these service areas. They're clean, spacious, and have free Wi-Fi, so it should be like, a 5 star rating. But: (a) the food is all corporate and horrible and charges a lot more for the same items than the same chains do in a non-Thruway setting. (b) the gas is significantly more expensive (usually) than anywhere off the Thruway. (c) if you hang out too long, they try and charge you full price when you exit the Thruway because you've been on longer than your ticket suggests. Not to mention the bathrooms are sometimes gross (although often they're perfect), and the WiFi doesn't always work. This rest stop in particular can have really gross bathrooms on random days. Also if you watch that TV show (Castle) in India, it's all dubbed, and honestly for that reason the Indian Castle is a lot more enjoyable. Even when (spoiler) they all get married and live happily ever after in the final episode. And... Everyone knows the coolest piece on a chess board is a Castle (Rook), but did you know that in Indian Chess, the Castle is even cooler? That's why they named this spot, Indian Castle.

I stopped by The Mustard Seed on a recent stop in Little Falls. I picked up 2 baked goods from their gluten free selection including 2 Gluten Free Old Fashioned Spiced Oatmeal Cookies and Gluten Free Carrot Cake Loaf. I enjoyed my treats back at the house for after dinner desserts with my black coffee. This was a good stop worth checking out!

Living out of state, I knew this would be no easy task for me to accomplish. It would take a talented and patient person to coordinate and manage the design process in my absence, especially having never met me. I accompanied Tina on her initial walk through of the house via video conference. It was a relief to know she shared my enthusiasm for the project and had the vision to implement my long wish list of design changes. My primary objective was to undo the previous owner's Victorian touches and return the interior to a classic Colonial style. Tina delivered on every front. While her design work speaks for itself, she also handled purchasing and receiving, and managed the financial aspect of the purchases she made. She was mindful of spending and sought ways to reduce costs. She was always available via phone and e-mail, and did a great job keeping me updated on her progress. Not only did she complete the redesign on time, but even after completion, she contributed many hours of her personal time to ensure our interior photography was a success. When I was finally able to meet Tina in person, I joked about how it felt like I had known her my whole life. That's a true testament to her personality. Our family and friends who walked through the house before and after Tina's work all expressed the same awe at the spectacular job she did. Tina's designs positively impact all our guests- from a restful night's sleep on thoughtfully chosen bed linens to memorable wedding photos taken against the back drop of our grand interior. We replaced nearly every window in the house after the initial design work was done. Tina came through for us again and was there at the exact moment we needed her. Her work in taking down and resetting all our window coverings allowed us to complete the project on time and ensured our guests weren't affected. We're extremely grateful! Diane took the time to listen to exactly what I was looking for. Being I was looking for a perm, she questioned me appropriately - have I ever had a perm before, any reaction to the chemicals, what type of curl I wanted, etc. The cut and perm are amazing!! She did a phenomenal job and of course I booked my six week trim as I'm sure they'll book up quickly for the holidays. A very professional salon with that hometown touch!
