The glazed carrots had a light maple taste that paired really well with the dish. The temperature in the restaurant was perfect, which made the whole experience even more comfortable. Service was spot on too--Anna took great care of us and was incredibly patient as we shared stories and even offered a few decor suggestions. She was attentive without being overbearing. The music was great and set at just the right volume, which made it easy to relax, enjoy the meal and hear the conversation. That said, the decor could use a bit of improvement. No offense to the artist, but the prints felt a little odd and too small for the wall space. The overall layout of the restaurant could also be better--it didn't feel as cohesive as the food and service deserved. Also, the hardwood seats could use some padding for both the back and bottom to make longer visits more comfortable. All in all, definitely worth checking out for the food and atmosphere, with just a few areas that could be elevated.

The food, which in my case was a hamburger was absolutely wonderful. The french fries were equally well done. The portions are generous and given how busy the restaurant is it was very well prepared. Again, given how busy this particular restaurant is the service is amazingly efficient, and the staff is very nice. Although I would suggest it is not a place you would necessarily want to come to relative to its ambience on the other hand you would miss a wonderful meal if you did not. In my case I chose the meal over the ambience and it was well worth it and that is the reason I give it five stars.

The food was especially good with large portions and very reasonably priced. I understand there is a meat market next door (I assume the meat comes from there). My Philly Cheese Steak was excellent. The hamburgers are 1/2 pound (unless you want bigger) and very good. My wife had the BLT and was amazed at how much better than normal the bacon was. Our nephew, who is a big eater, couldn't even finish his chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and country gravy and said he's never had better. We all had fries and they were fresh, house-made, and delicious. None of us could finish them all. We pass through Gonzales maybe a dozen times a year and since this place is a couple of block west of where we join Hwy 90A, we've never seen it. Other reviewers mentioned that it seems to be a favorite of the locals and now it one of ours too. The tables fill the room and if there were more I'm sure they would fill them, though that might mean the fast service could suffer, so to me it's fine as is. We will return and will start planning our trips to include lunch here. They close at 2 pm so will leave home with that in mind.

I'll admit that when we got there, it doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside is a different feel. We were greeted and told we could sit where we like. We picked a table and a menu was promptly brought over with a warm welcome. I ordered the strawberry lemonade and the taco salad with beef. All very good! If you're in the area, give this place a try!

What I eventually found both surprised and delighted me, and Nate's gets a thumbs up overall. Pictures are deceiving as I thought the place would be larger but it's a tight fit for bigger groups. There are only a handful of tables but plenty of character. It's also a bit grimey, unsightly and even a tinge dodgey, which may be a deal breaker for others but is an immediate appeal to me. Two things immediately standout when it comes to the food: the portions and the prices are outstanding. The offerings are as no frills as the rest of the establishment. The other surprise was how much influence there was from Mexican cuisine. Hash browns were the goal, but chorizo and chilaquiles were the bonus. Another surprise? The hash browns weren't as crispy as I would have wanted. It's entirely plausible that I came on an off day, which happens. However everything else was on point as my chorizo skillet was absolutely dynamite, pancakes were fluffy and indulgent, breakfast tacos were outstanding, and my eggs were perfectly softly scrambled. Even the bacon and sausage patties were delicious, which is a tall order considering it's not likely made in house. Lastly, as someone who drinks cold water like it's a hobby (#1), I'm especially grateful for the massive 32 oz cup of water, which is perfect for someone who drinks like a camel. The staff is not the quickest but they are friendly. Spanish may go further with most and they're not the quickest when it comes to greeting folks or cleaning tables. The food is the star and consider paying in cash. ____________ (#1) I'm thirsty.

We stopped midday on a recent road trip to this small town burger spot with 50s diner charm and friendly people. Just off the freeway a bit, this is a great place for a tasty meal, ice cream dessert or snack pleaser We enjoyed some fried pickles while we waited for our tortilla burgers ( we added avocado). The pickle chips and ranch dressing was good but a little too salty for my liking. The tortilla burger was a veggie loaded cheesy smashed beef burger in two fried tortillas. Greasy but good. Fall all apart but finger-lickability. With a side of hot fries, this filled us up quickly. But not too full to not partake in an ice cream shake for the road. Needless to say, we couldn't move for a good two hours but we felt great having a bucket list item checked and a satiated palate.
