Plain Jane burger and potato wedges.
    Jeff S.

Stopped here out of necessity. The other places near by didn't seem to tickle my girls fancy so there we go. I will say this place has a lot of charm. Not sure about the history of the building but very inviting. As for the service certainly top notch. Friendly folks with smiles all around. I went for a burger and it was good, but the fries were exactly 2 potato wedges. I would have liked more because they were pretty good. My girl went for the Blackberry Farmhouse salad that she liked very much. Then she went and ordered the bread pudding. It's pretty good.

We are visiting friends at their ranch and went for lunch. We got a late start and got to the restaurant at 2;30 so we were the only ones in the place. What a great place. They are several small rooms so it's very pleasant to sit and talk. The decor is beautiful. They have a full bar and a good variety on the menu. Everyone enjoyed their meals. we will definitely return on our next trip.

Dropped in with the Family on the way to the hill country for lunch and we were rewarded with a lovely farmhouse house meal. It's located right on the Main Street just about a 1/4 mile south of the interstate. Easy to get to for sure. Plenty of parking and there's a nursery that it shares the location with. Tons of flowers and charm to keep you or the little ones entertained. First thing on the menu is Famous Crispy Brussel Sprouts, what an absolute banger of a dish! They're maybe a touch on the sweet side, but they're so craveable and tasty in a variety of ways. Pizzas, Burgers, and some other sandwiches and salads are the rest of the menu, simple stuff with a good coverage for different palates. Got a BBQ chicken pizza and a lamb burger. Both were fine I think the burgers here seem to be the best route to go, I wish the fries with the burger were crispy and seasoned some more. Our wonderful server recommended that we don't leave without trying the Pecan Bread Pudding. Another homerun for me, soft without turning into mush, just enough chew from the bread and the sweetness didn't overpower you. This is somewhere I'll be sure to stop for years to come when traveling between Houston and San Antonio!!

This is the second time my family has dined here while on a road trip to San Antonio--and there is a reason we returned. Above all, I appreciate the concept. The restaurant combines delicious eats with a healthy setting (an outside garden is so well-kept and gives the restaurant beautiful greenery) and a versatile menu that offers both vegetarian and kid-friendly meals. The food itself is overall good. The stars of the show are definitely the appetizers (specifically the crispy Brussels sprouts and grilled portobello mushroom), but the mains are also great. There was no bad dish, although I did not particularly enjoy the mushroom Asiago pizza. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and patient. I truly have no complaints. Definitely a worthy pit stop if ever at Schulenburg!

Great vibe and food for sure. We had the chicken bites which are wrapped in bacon and the mini tacos. Both are great. Had the opportunity to try the turkey sandwich and fire pizza (Italian one). Definitely my recommendation. The service we had was A plus for sure. The waitress kept coming to check on us and made sure we needed nothing. If you are in the area do yourself a favor and stop in and get the pizza. I'll definitely be back to try the dinner menu and see what it has to offer.

Love this place. They're seasonal and lunch and dinner menus differ. Adorable, very nice, and the nursey gives it a lovely earthly ambience

This place is a must stop if you're going towards San Antonio from Houston. It definitely was a highlight on my trip. They have a pretty garden outside with several cats that are friendly. We got here about 15 minutes before they opened, but they still sat us. Now the food... The Greek salad was not only humongous, but it was also delicious. I'm also super picky about chicken and theirs was seasoned just right. Super cool place overall.

The food was tasty and the atmosphere was so great! Bring your dogs outside or enjoy the cool interior. They have a cute gift shop with seasonal decorations outside. You can have your own mini pumpkin patch photo shoot right now. The desserts and brussel sprouts were to die for, I would come for just those. They have cute plants for sale as well as some fun Texas themed gifts to purchase.

Came to town for a weekend visit from Houston and found this gem. The interior section where was restaurant is is very much that of an old country house. You could tell everyone around us was enjoying themselves. The food was great and service was impeccable. We definitely felt very welcomed here. The chicken fried steak is excellent and you cannot go wrong with any of the desserts. On top of all that, they have a cool garden out back which our family definitely enjoyed walking through, despite the good ol' Texas heat. A very neat experience away from the city.

What's delightful restaurant off the highway! A perfect meeting point between Houston and Santa antonio. I met my parents at the halfway point for lunch. What a delight! The rustic decor and garden area in the back were gorgeous. They sell plants and have a little shop in the back. We ordered the Brussels sprouts and bacon wrapped chicken bites as our appetizers. Wow!! So yourself a favor and ask for extra sauce on your chicken bites. We also orders the salad, pizza, and portabello mushroom burger. All delish. Best sweet tea I've ever had! Our family and I wil make it a point to stop on our drives more often.

I was disappointed in the Ruben sandwich. Mind you, it was served warm as most are, but after eating Reubens from delis with lots of meat, from the photos you can see that my Reuben from here had a skimpy serving of meat. Additionally, I thought that the menu had it at one price and the register rung it up as $1.00 higher. I found that it is a dollar more for a salad. It comes standard with chips. That's reasonable to me and I thought that the salad was good. My spouse had the burger, and she enjoyed it. She liked that it came with a choice of fries or a healthy salad. I was pleased that a Zero Coke was only $2.00. That's extremely reasonable!

Looking forward to trying Tillie's again next time we pass thru. The cafe is well maintained and the food was decent. We also loved the ambiance - very relaxing. The service was very bad. The servers acted as though serving us was a massive inconvenience from the moment we walked in. Our questions were met with eye rolls and borderline rude answers that made us feel unwelcome.

I don't think that itself harms the score but certainly some upgrades to bathrooms would not hurt. The decorum likely from wallpaper to interior finishes may have remained untouched since the 60's which gives it a very rustic feel. Going to win the battle in food for certain demographics..seeing kielbasa sausage with sauerkraut and bacon I am right at home. Country fried pork, cooked cabbage, real mashed potatoes and I follow you anywhere, but realize it's not for everyone. There was a salad bar section but I was interested in other items. Some items were not really warm like the sausage, fried chicken, beef stew compared to other items like country friend pork sitting right beside them which was disappointing. Still food flavor was good and this is good ole' fashioned recipe prep. Chicken soup was very good and scalding hot. Hot peach cobbler and banana pudding for desserts were very good and would put the banana pudding in a state fair contest and confidently claim blue ribbon status prior to judging. Don't let the score fool you, I'd be back just because it's my comfort food preference and I have some tolerance but for families getting off the highway with picky eaters may keep going. Country folks and truckers coming off a long day will appreciate the down home feel.
