However, on a recent trip I discovered something a bit disturbing and honestly confusing. I was with a group of colleagues, and three of us have Alpha Gal (red meat allergy caused by the lone star tick). Thankfully I desensitized myself enough that I can eat SOME red meat. The other two are highly sensitive. I ordered the wings again and passed them around to share. One of my AG friends ate one and the other asked the waitress if there is cross contamination. We were informed that the wings are fried in BEEF tallow. I panicked because the one friend is so sensitive that she can't even go to a petting zoo with hoofed mammals without reacting. So lucky that she had taken an Allegra that day which helps with the allergy enough that one wing fried with beef fat won't cause anaphylaxis. However, if the other girl had eaten it, she very likely could have had a terrible reaction. It does not state on the menu that the wings are fried in beef tallow. It's very important that allergens such as this are noted. I would never have thought myself that it was fried in beef fat. I would've thought it was vegetable or peanut oil. I would hope that this restaurant will add red meat allergens to their menu as Alpha Gal is becoming more and more common. Better yet, don't use beef products to cook chicken products.

We started off with the "Devils on Horseback" which are basically shrimp jalapeño poppers. We were told they weren't too spicy, but I was literally rubbing ice on my lips from the heat! I should've expected them to be spicy from the literal name of them being called a devil haha. The flavor was absolutely there, but for $15 I was hoping that it would come with more than 4. For our entrees, we had the "Boom Boom Shrimp Tacos" and the "Ribeye Sliders". The sliders were my favorite of the two, but the tacos were also delicious! The sweet potato fries here are great also :) I also ordered a double strawberry mule, and it most definitely did the job for a decent price. Our waitress was so kind (I completely forgot to get her name though) and gave great dessert recommendations!

I rarely complain -- I've been a server myself, so I understand how things can get -- but there were only four tables in the entire restaurant and we still felt ignored. It took a long time just to be greeted, and even longer to get our drinks, despite the place being almost empty. The food itself was good, but the service didn't improve. She only asked if my husband wanted another beer and didn't offer refills to anyone else at the table. We also waited way too long to get our bill. When my husband asked (twice) if Walk-On's offered a military discount, she went ahead and ran the card anyway and acted like she didn't hear the question. She eventually got it corrected, but the interaction felt careless. When she brought the check back, she even told us NOT to fill out the survey -- which honestly felt like she knew the service hadn't been good. As someone who works in this industry, I know how important those surveys are.

We thought we should leave the long high top tables for larger parties. We chose to sit at a smaller table for four along the window wall. The chairs seem too short for the tables along the window. The restaurant is sleek and modern. Eye-catching decor that is visually appealing. We watched servers and management walked by our table several times in a five minute period and not a single person greeted us. We finally flagged down what appeared to be a manager, and asked if we could be served. They abruptly left the table, more minutes past, and eventually a server came to the table, dropped menus, and left. We waited another five minutes and finally flagged the server down to take our order. I've never experienced this, but the server requested a credit card immediately to start a tab. We said we were paying cash and only planning to order a sandwich and an iced tea. She stated that was the policy so if you are arriving with no credit card in hand, it is possible, you can't be served. Cash is not king here. My dining companion really wanted to try the Italian beef sandwich so we ordered one entree to split. He ordered an unsweet iced tea and I drank water. The food arrived promptly and the bowl presentation was acceptable. The sandwich is served on top of smashed potatoes that are probably baked. There was a gravy at the bottom of the bowl, which was I think was the au jus meant to dip the sandwich. The bread was not fresh. The sandwich was hot and tasty. The meal was enough for two people, but the server didn't bring a plate for the shared portion. We flagged another server and requested and received a plate. The total was $25. My dining companion had visited the restaurant for breakfast several weeks earlier. He noted the food was good and the service was efficient. I hope our visit today was not the norm because we felt totally ignored. We decided if we chose to return in the future we would have to sit at the bar to be able to be served on a timely basis, if at all.

Not many places have it on the menu these days. Some friends had mentioned Texas Roadhouse a few weeks ago, so we gave it a go. There were a lot of cars in the lot for so early on a Friday. There were a lot of customers in the restaurant as well! A host greeted us and shortly afterward showed us to a booth. Our server delivered freshly baked yeast rolls with a cinnamon spread. She took our beverage orders and returned with them quickly. I inquired whether prime rib was available and she informed us that they slow cook it overnight and they had plenty. We ordered a 10oz and a 12oz, both mid rare, with creamy horse radish and jus. Mashed and a Caesar salad for one, broccoli and Caesar for the other. The salads came out quickly and on chilled plates. Our server returned quickly and said the entrees were ready, did we want to wait a few minutes - yes was our response. We were finishing salads and she returned with our entrees. Generous cuts perfectly cooked. They were delicious and tender! The one thing we would change - the rub used was too thick and salty of a crust on the meat. Both of us trimmed it off. Overall - a delicious meal. We will be back next time we are hankering for a good prime rib dinner!

It was extremely busy when we arrived so we decided to place a pickup order instead of dining in, thinking it would be quicker and easier. Unfortunately, our food still came out over 20 minutes later than the quoted time, which kind of defeated the purpose of ordering ahead but by that time we were starving and just happy to have some food in front of us. When we opened it up however, it was disappointing across the board. There was no sauce included at all, like not on the food itself and not packaged on the side. That meant everything was dry and pretty bland. I was actually kind of bewildered. We ended up going to another place nearby to grab some drinks so that we could choke down the dry food. Maybe it was just a fluke since this place has pretty good ratings or they we're just so overwhelmed that someone decided to leave the sauces off so that the food didn't get soggy and someone else forgot to put them in so that the food had flavor. Either way, this was a very disappointing meal.

Sage is that place for us. We enjoy dining there for lunch and dinner, but our favorite "comfort date night" is a bistro table in the bar, Wagyu burgers, Steak Frites and martinis. He's attentive yet gives you your space. Sage is the kind of place that feels like home because regardless of the time of day you visit, you always see someone you know. Whether it's a friendly face at the bar, or someone coming in for an event in the "back bar", Sage is a must for upscale Tallahassee dining. The price point is outstanding for the quality of your meal. The portions are hefty and we never leave hungry. The road construction in the Market St district has not deterred us from making our regular burger night. Do not let it stop you. Tip... The burgers are served in the bar only. If you crave their savory Wagyu burger be sure to reserve a seat in bar/bistro seating OR visit them on their new Burger Monday in the dining room. It looks like they have a great new Monday night burger special with a wine pairing.
