What's left of the cheese curds appetizer....
    Nancy G.

The Slow Buffalo is owned by the same group that owns the Hale House, only the SB is more like a sports bar, where HH is more like a traditional restaurant. We stopped in because of the specials they were having: an elote chicken sandwich for me and cheeseburger quesadilla for him. My sandwich was very big and was hard to take a bite of, but I like 'em that way, lol! The chicken was a fried chicken breast and was NOT overcooked. The elote topping was creamy and a nice accessory to the chicken. To top it off, arugula was also on it and was the perfect topping instead of typical lettuce. The sandwich came with a boatload of fries which were a smidge overcooked and dry, but not so terrible that we couldn't eat them. I didn't try the quesadilla, but it looked full and delicious, and came with a side of dipping cheese. We started out with an order of cheese curds, and they were awesome! Perfectly browned and crisped little cubes with a very light coating and a ranch dipping sauce. Delish!!! We got a slice of chocolate cake to go and holy moly! The thing was HUGE! We are both chocoholics, but that one slice took us 2 days to finish....it was sooooo good, though! I can't speak for hubs, but I would definitely go back. 39/2025

This was the new restaurant to try after my first attempt was a total train wreck but I'm not getting into that and I would come back another time. The place is nothing like the dark dingy bar of 27 years. Today it's remodeled nicely and decor is modern and bright. It's still small with a small bar and some side tables. My server was very friendly. I have been on a cheesesteak streak when I see them on a menu I get one and I'm usually disappointed with how skimpy the steak usually is or the wrong cheese like Swiss etc etc. The cheesesteak looked good with steak over flowing and plenty of bacon on top, no skimping on this one. It's not a traditional cheesesteak because it was cheese sauce and grilled onions, no peppers. The cheesesteak was good and all the overflowing steak broke through the roll and was falling out the bottom. The cheese sauce is my favorite cheese for a cheesesteak and it was very creamy. The frys were thin cooked to order hot with a crispy shell and soft center. Overall this cheesesteak was the best I have had in a while and they don't skimp on the meat. I would definitely go back and try more of the menu.

Me and two of my friends been wanting to come here so two of us can try the smash burgers and the other one can try the wings. But due to us being under the weather this month, we FINALLY was able to come here over Memorial Day weekend. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a hostess and chose to sit in the dining area. We went over the drink menu and food menu and placed our orders right away. I went with the byo burger with American cheese and pickles, my friend with the byo (cheddar, lettuce, tomato & sauteed onions) and his girlfriend went with 6 buffalo and 6 spicy garlic wings. We didn't have to wait long and from looking at my food being passed over to me I couldn't wait to dig in! After taking off the top bun to put on my condiments, I noticed that it was kind of cold like it was just taken out of the walk in cooler. It was very lightly toasted but it was still odd that it is toasted and cold at the same time but I looked past it. My friend noticed the same thing with his bun as well but he also looked past it too. The "sauteed" onions were diced onions and weren't caramelized like you would think. They looked like they were cooked in butter but did not give them the sauteed treatment. You're typical smash burger is smashed thin and has a caramelized top and crispy edges, but these burgers didn't have any of the features that a smash burger should have like you would get at Archie's. However, I will say it was seasoned well, was juicy and the pickles were nice and crisp. Not to mention the fries were crispy hot with a soft potato center. My friend who ordered the wings were a nice size and she said the flavors were really good. Her boyfriend tried one of the buffalo wings and agreed it was quite tasty. Overall, the burger was good but I wouldn't call it smash burger. It's more of a double cheeseburger in my opinion but overall it was a delicious. I would have it again and even give the fish fry a try. I would actually give it 3.5 stars but it's not AN option.

We went on a busy Saturday for lunch. The parking lot was full. But don't let that fool you. We parked on the street and there was plenty of seating for two. We got a high table. But there were also about 8 to 10 spots at the bar. It was a constant turn over and the staff is amazing at keeping up with the pace. The bar tender was great at helping tables when he wasn't making drinks behind the bar. I found that very impressive. Our waitress was always on top of things and very kind. We didn't have to wait long for any of our order. For so many people the noise level was not over powering we could still visit without yelling. Owners also had The Local and Hale House so they know what they are doing. I had a chicken sandwich and fries. Delicious. My husband had the tacos which he said he would definitely have again. However he would like to try a burger as we found out later that they have solid burgers. Good to know. I'm sure we will be back and recommend you give it a try. Great staff that make you want to come back!

What a fantastic little find! A cozy bar/restaurant with limited seating but the food and service was fantastic! Leah, our server was knowledgeable about the menu and very accommodating for the kids on our party of 5. My husband had the buffalo bonus wings which were the perfect amount of saucy and spice. A few of us had smash burgers which were cooked perfectly and the seasoning was spot on! I love the bread used for their buns! My daughter had a chicken sandwich that she said was very tender. The place was very clean and well decorated. A well hidden gem.

Amazing food that has burgers, wraps, salads and appetizers. Great atmosphere that you can tell has their clientele. We were all in the mood for burgers and reviews were great for burgers.

Arrived at 4:45pm on a Friday and it was packed. We had 2 fish fries one with fries the other with potato pancakes. We got about 4/5 smaller pieces of fish which was hot and fresh, quite good. The coleslaw lacked any flavor as did the potato pancakes which weren't that warm. They had no taste of onion nor of any spice. Typical fries which you can upgrade and add bacon and cheese for $2. This place is in the Hale House group the price was $17 or $18. The building is quite small and very very loud. Staff is pleasant.

Tortillas were crispy and fried to perfection. The consommé was delicious, had me drinking it straight out the cup and was well seasoned, hot, and was in its own something to right about. The red and green salsas were also good. Red having a bit of kick, green was flavorful. I will say that I wish one of them had more heat to it but the acidity and flavors were great. The beef itself was so flavorful and tender, well seasoned, not to mention had the perfect amount in each item. Also, Onions and peppers on the side were cooked great and had me going back for more each time. Also, get the horchata, it was spectacular. This place is small but decorated to really feel like the owners, workers, really care and take pride in the establishment. It had a great ambiance that was full of people on a rainy lunch hour, and I can see why. As a person who works in the industry as a cook, the kitchen, which you can see when you order is neat, clean, and truly has the right feel of 'they know what they're doing and they're doing it well'. 5 stars, will be talking about this meal for a long time and spreading the recommendation to as many people as I can.

Having a good margaritas also is a main important thing at a Mexican restaurant. I ordered three à la carte tacos. The deep fried avocado, Al Pastor and steak. The avocado taco was strong in seasoning and actually tasted burnt. Couldn't eat it. As for the steak and Al pastor , those were very good. All in all, I don't think I'd be back because there's a lot of competition for Mexican restaurants. We did go 20 minutes out of our way to try this place and there's other places closer to us in Waukesha.

My lunch took about 5 minutes and I was able to get one Asada and one Al pastor so they let you mix the meats. They looked good with a nice golden color to them. The asada was my first try and the meat was very moist with that hot melty cheese. The Al pastor was was also moist meat with melty cheese and everything a fresh chimichanga should be. To my surprise the meats had no fat or gristle and just tender moist meat with the Al pastor being my favorite. Overall the chimichangas were pretty good and hot to order with the flavors of the meat not being the best I have ever had because I have had tastier seasoned Asada and bigger flavor Al pastor but the fresh quality from a truck was what gets them the 4 stars and the fact that they are even on a truck menu at all.
