Updated on 4/24 I've been here a few times since my initial visit. The service has seen a small decline ever since. My stop last night found a slightly busy restaurant than I was accustomed too, but was able to find a table without a problem. It took 10-15 minutes for a server to come to the table without menus. After ordering some drinks, our food order was taken right away. Great I thought. We order a large guacamole but that never came. When our food arrived 25-30 minutes later, I said don't worry about bringing the guac. She did anyway and never took it off the tab. I had the carne asada and it was delicious. I'm quite picky about Mexican food but Al Pastor is easily my new favorite in Milwaukee. The raspberry marg was great - not too sweet. Chips and salsa (especially the green) were enjoyed. And then the birria dinner - wow. Service was quick, friendly, and even put the game on for us at the bar! I can't wait to come back in the summer and enjoy the patio! read more

Great first visit to Al Pastor Mexican Restaurant in West Allis! One person was running both the dining room and the bar, and she absolutely crushed it--quick, friendly service. The complimentary chips came out warm with a trio of salsas, which were so good I ended up buying a container of the verde to take home. For our meal, we each had a trio of tacos with rice and beans. I tried the carnitas, the al pastor, and the campechanos--all with onions and cilantro. The al pastor was my favorite--perfectly seasoned and absolutely delicious. There was plenty of seating indoors, and everything was spotless. There's patio seating available, but it wasn't open due to limited staffing. No big deal--we're already planning to come back and try more of the menu! read more

Can't beat Al Pastor's food. We have been going there for years, and have never been disappointed. My favorite is the Alambre. The waiting staff is very friendly, and you are served large portions at a very reasonable price. read more

We showed up late afternoon Sunday and service was a little slow. Our server, however, was charming and helpful answering questions about the menu and explaining ingredients. The servings were not over-generous (which is a positive--sometimes you end up with too much at a Mexican restaurant). Food was fresh and tasty. My elderly mom loved the refried beans. read more

Al Pastor has been my Authentic Mexican restaurant for over 20 years the owners take such pride in the authenticity of their mexican cuisine the food is authentic, delicious and fresh the establishment has a good vibe and a cozy atmosphere for a good date night or just to catch a quick bite to eat at lunch. Ate at Al Pastor for the first time and the food was very good. I had the chili relents and mole enchilada, and tres Leche cake for dessert. My wife had the nachos, nice portion but the chips were mainly small pieces. The server was wonderful, very attentive and cheerful. Small mom and pop Mexican restaurant that has some authentic plates and bites if you're in the mood for that. The service is usually pretty prompt and quick. They do have a dine in or take out available. Seating is typically never an issue. I usually order a torta de pastor but have had their combination plates as well. Overall it's a cool spot if you want a quick bite to go or sit down. They also have a fully stocked bar and plenty of beers on tap. read more

I can't believe I hadn't known about Al Pastor! Wow, great place with authentic Mexican. There was a special on Mexican Street Corn in a dish and while it came out with my meal instead of as an appetizer, it was glorious. Roasted corn fresh off the cob, incredibly fresh! The Bistec in Salsa Verde with cilantro, potatoes, onion and green medium sauce was perfection. They serve some breakfast items all day, and I can't wait to return to try more! read more

The staff here are very polite. The space is clean and vibrant with outdoor seating available. The food was mediocre and didn't blow me away, but was ok. The price point is way too high for what you get and for the area in my opinion. If the prices were better I would likely go more often. read more

Outstanding. Honestly, that's the word. Like many I suppose, we're guilty of not venturing out from our tried and true favs very often. Because of that blind loyalty, it took us a little longer to get here than it should have. We finally made in today and holy man- it was...what's the word? Outstanding. The place was spotless. The service was impeccable and gracious. The food was killer. Since it was our first time in- we both went with the Pick 3 so we could try different things. Our meals included: chicken enchiladas, a chicken chimichanga, steak tacos, chorizo tacos, rice, beans and of course we started with chips, guacamole and margaritas. I'm not even sure if we can rank the food one over another as it was all sooo good. If I described each dish, I'd be writing for pages. All I can tell you is that Al Pastor is a must. Since my last review, things have improved! We have visited 3-4 more times, and ALL the waitstaff have been attentive and accurate. The ladies room now has a soap dispenser with soap. The prices have gone up slightly (10-15%), but in my opinion they were underpriced before and have gotten a reasonable bump. You're still going to get great authentic food at a great price. Couldn't recommend this place more! My favorite dishes are: 1. The taco plate. I get steak tacos in soft flour tortillas, as Mexican style. Mexican style is topped with fresh cilantro and diced red onions. Perfection! 2. Steak fajitas. Delicious and I always have leftovers for lunch the next day. read more

We came to pick up some dinner around 4pm. We saw a parking lot in the back, then walked in through the door in the back. I don't think they're used to customers walking in through the back, and everyone looked startled. As were we. lol. We apologized, but were quickly put at ease and told it's totally fine, and that's what doors are for! Everyone was super friendly, so it was a great beginning for the experience. We would normally call ahead to place our order when picking up, but we just swung in this time since we were in the neighborhood. We were craving some good Mexican food and fellow yelpers have given this place a raving review. There was no other customers in the restaurant yet, though a big family walked in while we were waiting for the food. The joint was clean, well organized, and sectioned off so there is plenty of space between tables. I wanted their beef milaneza dinner, but they're not making those anymore - only chicken. Steak Fajitas - hubby ordered this. I would never order fajitas to go. It comes with the whole sizzling experience when eating at the restaurant. I think it would have been great at the restaurant, but by the time we got home, we felt the meat was overdone, and just not the same. Entree Sampler: - Taco with Pastor. There's a reason this place is called "Al Pastor" guys! Get the pastor meat! Absolutely fantastic! - flauta with capechanos. This was my least favorite. It's like a rolled up taco that's deep fried. I think the flavors kicking from the taco and the mole from the enchilada really masked the capechanos. not wowed. - enchilada with mole. Their mole sauce is really, really good. They put this one in a separate container for me, and drenched it with mole sauce. Thank you! Horchata - just what you need on a hot summer day! But it was very cold inside the restaurant (I was standing right under the AC, and wearing thin clothes since it was 80F outside. Probably not that cold in reality). The server asked me whether I wanted ice in the horchata before serving, and I was thankful for that. All the smells of an authentic Mexican feast were teasing us throughout our 15 minute drive home. Al Pastor catered our son's graduation party and we were extremely happy with both the food and the service! Before we placed our order, we stopped at the restaurant to sample the different options. Al Pastor is definitely what you would describe as a hole-in-the-wall establishment. However, I've found these places to be diamonds. I went in and ordered a Mango margarita and the Birria dinner. Chips and salsa came while I looked at the menu. The mango margarita is HUGE. I ordered a small and it's definitely enough to share between two people. The Birria dinner came with 3 tacos, rice, beans, & consomé. The tacos were well cooked and oily. I love a good, oily taco. The consomé was an excellent dipping soup for the tacos. I ate my food pretty quickly. Hence, I have no photos to provide. I will definitely be coming here again. Very authentic Mexican food and very affordable. read more

I found this restaurant after spending some time at a nearby brewery. Let me tell you....this is the best Mexican food I've ever had and I've been to a lot of Mexican restaurants in the US. The shrimp, steak, and chicken were perfectly seasoned and the guacamole was fresh. The churros were stuffed with a vanilla custard (I think) and were hot and fresh even after I had them to go. A little disappointed in the service tonight. This is my second time here and I would say the food is ok. Not terrible but nothing special. I got the tostada combo with pastor meat which isn't bad but there's not much flavor, especially with the rice and beans. I went just after 5 and per their website that would be happy hour, 2 for 1 margaritas and Paloma drinks. I wasn't sure what a Paloma drink was but I went with that and was pleasantly surprised, I actually like it better than their margarita. However, when paying the bill I was told the Paloma drinks aren't on happy hour! I said you might want to fix your website and was told "I don't have anything to do with that". That's fine, but you should be letting someone in management know your website is wrong and you should've honored the price. Just making people aware in case that's what you go for. I've ordered twice from here. I've had the taco dinner and it was Pretty good but nothing special. What I did like was the mile enchiladas, they had an awesome some taste. I believe the mole is homemade, so that's a big thumbs up. I'm definitely wanting to go back to try their other dishes. read more

Solid, tasty traditional Mexican in an assuming location. Al Pastor has been on my "to try" list for a long time and so we stopped in for a quick, inexpensive dinner. The interior is no frills but it's clean and the staff is super nice. They do a ton of take out and offer delivery through several platforms. If you dine in, there's maybe 6 or 7 tables. The menu offers up favorites: tacos, burritos and enchiladas plus an a day breakfast. The Mister had enchiladas suizas and I had a taco dinner. We both very much liked our food - their tacos are reasonable ($2) and the chicken was delicious. Personally I think the beans lacked seasoning but whatever, they're .75. Chilango is still my favorite, but Al Pastor is well worth more visits. read more

Service was good, place was clean, the food was the issue. Walking in at noon on Saturday to an empty restaurant was the first red flag. The food was very salty, something was wrong with the pulled pork and we had to rake it off the nachos which went mostly uneaten. The other items ordered (quesadilla and enchiladas) were basic and over priced for what we got. Even the margarita was mostly syrup. First and last time trying this one.
