It turns out, the pipe is defective, with a small opening where the neck meets the main body of the pipe. The pipe is clear glass, so that opening was impossible to see until the water started leaking from it. I thoroughly cleaned the pipe and took it in, expecting to be able to exchange the defective product. Instead, they refused to talk to me about it and just pointed to their signs, indicating that all sales are final. They chose to lose a long-term customer by selling a defective product and refusing to exchange it. There are plenty of shops in town, and more coming. Piss poor customer service like this doesn't need to be tolerated.
