My wife's family visited Port Colborne for stay cation. This restaurant was highly rated and we wanted to try it out. There was a long wait for table as we were a party of 11. We told the server we can take separate tables to make it quicker. We still ended up waiting about 30-40 minutes. The restaurant decor is nice and thoughtfully decorated. There are antique bicycles hanging from the ceiling and Thai inspired paintings on the wall. The dining table had some scrapbook style design under the glass top. It was unique and cool. We were excited to try the food. My mother-in-law ordered the bulgogi bowl with egg. My wife ordered the Mongolian beef and I ordered the chicken pad thai. The bulgogi bowl was loaded with fresh cut cucumbers, carrots, green onions. The ginger soy sauce lacked punch of flavors. I do recommend mixing up everything like a bimbimbap. The Mongolian beef had a orange citrus taste. The beef was tender and it was served with green onions and sesame seeds. I had the chicken pad thai. The noodles cooked perfectly and there's plenty of chicken, tofu and bean sprouts. There was a hint of spice in this dish. We also added an order of duck spring rolls. The filling was tasty and spring rolls were big. The only critique I would say is to frie the spring rolls longer to get it crispier. Overall, the ambiance and service was really good. The food is catered to Western/ Canadian pallets so some may feel the food doesn't feel authentic. read more

Have been here several times in the last year! The food is always consistent and service is always good! We started with the pork gyoza which were very good! I usually order the Butter Chicken but decided to try the Chipotle Chicken enchilada! OMG was it delicious! The rice was a nice side! The flavor of the enchilada was incredible! So good! In the summertime, a large outdoor patio facing the welland canal. You can watch ships and boats travel under Bridge 21. You find the Smokin' Budda where the Friendship bike trail enters Port Colborne. It's an old train station and very bike friendly. Bike racks and a bike fix it station with some tools and a pump for your tires. After our bike ride from the Peace Bridge the Smokin' Budda is the perfect place to stop for a drink and a bite. From the specials menu we decided to share the last serving of Szechuan dumplings and a serving of Veggie Samosa. The 6 dumplings were topped with sambal, to give it a nice spicy bite, and some scallion rings. A really great appetizer. The samosa's were nice too, filled with potatoes, peas, onions, chilly and Indian spice. It came with a soy dipping sauce. Of course you have to stay hydrated, some enjoyed a Beau's Lug Lite, a very nice and crisp pilsener. We were ready for our ride back to Buffalo! We will be back there. read more

Oh man where has this place been all my life?! I can't wait to go try it again once the weather gets nice because it looks like they have a fantastic patio too! We were stupid and didn't make a reservation so we did get stuck at a tiny table, not a huge deal for me but my hubby is a big dude and he felt like he was in the way of the servers trying to get to other tables. But like I said, our fault for not calling ahead - will know for next time. The food - we had crab puffs for an appetizer. They were not at all what we were expecting but they were dynamite! So much so that I forgot to snap a pic until there wasn't a single bite left. Oops! Dinner-hubby had the jerk chicken bowl, when my food came he said he was bummed he didn't order what I got but then he didn't leave a single scrap left in his bowl. So I say that was a winner! I tried the coleslaw out of his bowl and it was delicious (and I am a picky bitch about coleslaw!). The plantain chips were fresh and delicious too (also see my note below about not liking bananas)! I had the Thai curry peanut dish with shrimp. Oh. My. God. Just enough heat on it that I had to ask for extra napkins for the impending nose-run. But not so much that I didn't thoroughly enjoy it nor was I left with heartburn later so that alone is a win! But the flavours, om nom nom nom. Get in ma belly! Absolutely delicious! I was thankful to have leftovers to bring home. Now if I can keep hubs away from them until I'm ready I'll be laughing! Dessert! Creme Brulee is always my go to but was told I had to try their banana dessert. I don't particularly like bananas so I wasnt too sad when they'd run out. We've frequented the restaurant since it opened and always thought it was great. However, yesterday they dropped the ball. We ordered takeout for six. The portions were about 2/3 the usual and items such as the Tofo and green beans were way over cooked and could have been a day old. I had the receptionist repeat the order when I called, and the still added mushrooms in one dish and kept the green onion another, when asked not to do so. The flavours were good though. read more

So, I was a little put off the first time we went, because it was a Friday, and we had just arrived in town for vacation, and they didn't have any openings until later, (even though there were tables available) but we decided to give it another try a few nights later, and we are so thankful we did! (We called ahead this time!) We went for date night during our family vacation, while the kids were hanging with grandma and grandpa. We got local beers and a few appetizers. The spring rolls were definitely the way to go! They have a great mix of dishes, from Thai and Indian to Mexican specials. My husband got the Chicken Vindaloo which was good, and quite spicy, but the chicken was on the dry side. I got the Beef Bulgogi which was absolutely delicious (add the Kimchee and Egg, it is worth it!) For dessert, I got their special, which was lavender creme brûlée, which was delicious, a great brûlée top, with a good hint of lavender, but not overwhelming. Our server was attentive and responsive but not intrusive. Some food is spicy, so the server helped us decide what would suit us best. And she was right. Large portions for appetizers too. BOTTOM LINE: An interesting fusion concept definitely worth trying. Although it's listed as an Indian-Thai fusion on Yelp, they do dabble into Korean, Japanese, Indonesian and Mexican influences as well. Now I know what you're thinking - fusion restos like this end up being a confusion of sorts, but I would say this is a solid choice in the hood. The space itself is fairly small though it's attached to a larger building. Resos are recommended. They have a "bar" area, with 2 seats, so JFYI. They also have an open kitchen, so this places smells really good when you enter. I found the service good. My DC and I started with the BANGKOK FISH CAKES, which were fairly hefty and a good kick to them. The BUTTER CHICKEN, I felt, was fairly standard; perhaps, a bit too "tomato-ey" to me. A definite highlight was their NASI GORENG, and Indonesian rice bowl with smoked meats and shrimps. On the way out, we ordered some ANTIJITOS, which made for a good snack later. Finally, I was hanging out that bar waiting for our table to be served and was chatting with one of the staff who recommended, but we forgot to order, an off-menu item of kimchi and other pickled goods. read more

Pretty busy when my coworker and I arrived, but service was great. Ordered the Avacotta Dip and Bangkok Fish Cakes, the dip was good and the fish cakes was a little bit sweet. I had dinner at The Smokin' Buddha tonight, and it was fantastic. My Grandmother really loved the place, and it is the first time I've been up to our cottage in years, so she wanted to treat us all. The service was great! Our waitress was so nice; it was busy, but she never rushed us. I started with the Samosa...fantastic! The sauce that was with it seemed like a sweet and sour, which I don't normally enjoy; but it went so well with the samosa that I couldn't help myself but keep dipping. I moved on to the Chicken Vindaloo (hope I spelled it right). It was perfectly seasoned and very flavorful. The portions were perfect; I didn't need a nap after dinner, but was SO satisfied. My Grandmother, Mother, and Sisters were all equally pleased with the food, the environment, and the service! Had some pretty much perfect Thai-style drunken noodles when I came here today on a foray over the border. Hadn't been to Canada in 20 years but I'm not waiting another 20 to go back, in part because of this joint. It's very much a fusion menu, which is fun, and almost everything on it looked highly eatable to me. If you're considering this place in the off season I would recommend either a reservation or patience, the majority of the tables are outside, which suits me fine. Very wide ranging menu with a variety of influences, most from the Asian/Indian regions, but also a generous dose of Mexican as well. Their website gets it right, "global comfort food"..... There also happened to be live music the night we where there, solo guitar player, but very entertaining, hopefully that applies to other nights as well. This was our first time ordering from The Smokin' Buddha, did not disappoint! Pork gyoza and antijito's to start were delightful. We also tried the Thai Yellow Curry, Korean Noodles, chipotle chicken enchilada and Nasi Goreng. Such a variety of international cuisines and all of them were so tasty. Went here expecting really good food but did not enjoy it. Ordered the mango red curry with shrimp, very little veggies, very little actual mango in there and shrimp were few and very small. Curry sauce tasted so sweet, as if they had added spoons of sugar, no authentic flavour. Waitress suggested I return the meal and try something else so decided to play it safe and had the lamb sliders which was basically greasy lamb patties topped w grilled onions on cold buns, also a disappointment. I had the Veggie Pad Thai and OH. MY. GOD. It was so good. I've never had pad thai with bamboo shoots in it before and they added a unique flavor that set this dish apart. The ambience is nice; right by the canal and open to the air (heaters are out when it's cold, though, so that's nice.) The service could have been faster but the server was very nice and was also busy training a new server so I can't really complain. The food came out quickly and was just the right temp. I was a bit hesitant about this place because the menu is so eclectic but I was pleasantly surprised. My daughter had a hockey tournament game in Port Colborne, and we were looking for a place to eat. Don't be put off by the half of the building with the "For Lease" sign. Go around the other side and you will find a hidden gem. I had the Thai curry, and it was amazing. My daughter ordered three appetizers, and my wife had the Nutty Noodles. All food was of excellent quality. Add to this a great selection of craft beer and friendly service, and this is a "must do." My daughter wanted me to downgrade to 4.5 stars because they did not have the lava cake she wanted for dessert, but I don't think that's fair. read more

We were out for a day trip from Toronto and stumbled across Smokin Budha. It's obviously not hidden to locals because the place was jammed and you need a reservation to eat on the patio on a July weekend. Despite having to eat inside, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The ambiance is great - from the laminated maps in the table to the bicycles hanging from the ceiling. But most important, the food was sublime. We had the bulgogi bowl and the special - tropical shrimp curry. Delicious. Definitely worth a second trip to Port Colborne. read more
