Apologies for the wrinkled look.. balled them up to throw them out, then decided to take a photo for proof.

Huge fan of local businesses. Any coffee shops, juice bars, or clothes stores... I try to drop in and buy something. My washer dryer broke down, so I decided to give the soap box a try. The first couple washes were okay. Sometimes they wouldn't follow instructions, but it was no big deal. I have black towels that every now and then would come back with a huge white spot... but again, I'm not doing them myself so I don't expect them to be perfect. However... I can no longer support this business. I have never experienced worse customer services. All of my white clothes came back with nasty black stains, which I could only assume is ink. I was enraged seeing this... when I lived in Bushwick, my laundry service would always inform me if things went wrong. No word from the Soap Box on anything awry... they just charged me and delivered the clothes. I called the Soap Box... and I was instructed to email the Soap Box's help desk. Sent 4 emails over a several week period... absolutely no response. Called back... I was told the boss or manager would contact me. Absolutely nothing. I'm baffled at how little care or accountability this company makes. There are so many options for great laundry service in Bushwick. You'll feel much better if you take your company to a business that'll respect you and your clothes.

I tried The Soap Box for the 1st time. I wanted to support a local business & I liked the way they present their company. However, I have to give an honest review. Pros: The staff there are all very kind & welcoming, they have a text reminder service so you can keep track of where your clothes are, & the pricing is decent. Plus the music, art & vibes in there are wonderful. They also cleaned a long African print skirt of mine very well. Cons: My winter coat came back two different shades with stains & discoloration in different areas. This coat was very pricey & it is now ruined. I would not trust them with a winter coat again.

They actually sort your socks, and return them in little packages as though they're new.

Inability to do a good job on the first clean, e.g., I bring a shirt, point out the stains, and come back to see the stains still there. I then point out the stain again, and they take note of it and clean it again. After the second clean, the stain is gone. Why not take note of the stain the first time? 2. They're incompetent tailors. They take shortcuts and do not take ownership of their work. I have taken a pair of pants to get a basic hem (not origin hem) and they came back with poor stitching. I even provided a sample that had been worn for six months, albeit by Alteration Specialists, and its stitching looks better. The adage, you get what your pay for is true. Want poor quality go to Brothers! 3. They are flat-out rude and dismissive. For instance, they demand payment and don't respond to "thank yous" or basic questions in regards to garment care. If Fort Greene wasn't a dry cleaning desert I'd go elsewhere. Come to think about it, I'll do a dry cleaner test and report back on the best one in the neighborhood. If you're OK with poor service and quality, then Brothers Cleaners should be your go-to.

Just have the sleeves shortened so that the fraying no longer showed or would get worse. I paid $25 for the work, pretty reasonable. The tailoring work itself was done well, the sleeve was shortened and finished cleanly, so I want to be fair about that. My issue is with how the coat was handled and returned to me. When I picked it up, the coat was tightly stuffed into a thin plastic bag which was tied up, as shown in the attached photos. I was literally shocked when the woman handed it to me. She was not the alteration lady so I didn't want to subject her to my anger, but I did say "it couldn't be put on a hanger at least"? She was apologetic and offered to get a hanger but I live only a few blocks away so I didn't see the point. Plus I wanted to take pictures. As a result, the coat was heavily wrinkled from being compressed into the bag (see photos) for two days (my given pick up date was Saturday, May 23rd and I picked it up today Tuesday evening), and honestly it was disappointing to see a garment I cherish being treated in such a careless manner by people I PAID to take care of it. I attached pictures of how the coat was presented to me and how it looked when I took it out of the bag. While I value my clothing A LOT, I am very easy going. I didn't expect luxury presentation or even steaming or pressing. I actually steam my coats every time I wear them. But I also didn't expect to have it returned to me shoved into a plastic bag like a dish rag. Every other place I have had alterations done, they won't press or steam the item unless asked to (I totally understand that) but at the least they put it on a hanger, even if it's a wire one. Especially a suit jacket or coat. This shouldn't happen to a $20 thrift store coat, let alone a coat worth over $1,000 dollars. It's a tailored garment - now the labels are out of shape and it's unwearable without considerable steaming and pressing. You want a clean and quiet place to wash your clothes YOURSELF? By all means go here. If you need to entrust your clothes to staff to have them cleaned or altered, hard pass if my experience is anything to go by.
