When you walk in the door here it is a treat to your senses. It smells so fresh and clean. So much here. I have been using these products for a few years now. I love the face soap & vanilla bath bomb. My hubby uses the rosemary & sage shampoo. He likes it ALOT.We just went in and picked up more wonderful items. I can't say enough good about this place so I'll try to give a good rundown. My skin concerns: I suffer from pretty severe acne, and dry, ultra sensitive skin. The acne was mostly hormonal so it wouldn't have been fully fixed with topical treatments, but because of the severity it leaves my skin barrier extremely damaged; even more sensitive and prone to more surface level breakouts. I have tried just about everything my dermatologist suggested. I also have the skin condition Keratosis on my upper arms. Not necessarily damaging, but not great to have either. What I bought: Delicate Facial Bar ($5.95), Delicate Facial Cream ($14) for face and African Shea Soap ($5.95) for body. I have used the Shea Soap for about 4 months now; it's greatly lessened the Keratosis. Not completely gone, but it's a very thorough (and fragrance free ) soap that doesn't strip your skin. I did have greater success after using it and using a shea butter heavy moisturizer right after showering. But solely with the soap, I find it a good enough improvement to keep buying. I have used the Delicate Bar and Cream for about 2 months. The bar is SUCH a good purchase. It cleans the skin super well, and of course leaves a bit of a dryer feeling since it doesn't have whatever store bought soap adds to 'wash away' easier, but it isn't at all stripping or irritating, it just feels clean. Then facial cream is extremely moisturizing, calming, sinks into the skin quite quickly, and doesn't leave you feeling oily or sticky. Within a month, my skin barrier felt healthier and on a good recovery path, and at the end of two months, my skin has its glow back and I am so happy with it. Side note: the full bottle of facial cream is $14 and the travel sized is $4, I used the travel sized and it's lasted me near two months, so if you just want to test it it's a great option. Second Section: Along with skin sensitivity on my face, I have sensitive skin everywhere and the usual laundry soap started to irritate it. Their bulk soap is wonderful, smells like a dream but isn't overpowering; and it doesn't leave clothes all crunchy and stiff like a normal handmade soap would. When you pair it with the wool balls, it acts as a top-notch fabric softener. ($16.00 and $4.50 respectively.) Also bought: Soap Sock; it's held together well and I would also recommend The owner and the employees/partners working have always been very kind and helpful as well. Idk how to describe, but it doesn't have that small business awkward atmosphere of Entering, and Then Feeling the Owner Stare At You as You Navigate a Small Room and Feel Guilty if You Don't Buy Anything. They answer your questions, recommend some products, but otherwise create a very comfortable and helpful atmosphere. All this to say, I have NO complaints and this is a small business worth supporting. read more

I visited The Soap Chest and purchased the complete facial line. My skin has never felt so good. And at $38, it is the best bargain around. I adore the new Grapefruit Lily spritzer. I use it as a body spray as well as an air freshener for my house, car and linens. I will be back very soon to purchase gift sets for the upcoming holidays. read more

I will say it again. I love these products! Since my last review, I've tried the following hand soaps: Milk & Honey , Lemongrass, Charcoal & Aloe facial bar, Sage Mint, Lavender Oat, Plain Jane, Rosemary Mint shampoo bar, Lavender and Rosemary Mint sugar scrubs. I recently purchased one of Gail's newest items - Lemon Thyme Household Cleaner. I absolutely am in love with this cleaner! I teach music and movement classes for young children and I use lots of instruments so finding a natural, non-toxic cleaning product that I can use everyday to clean my musical props is important. It smells absolutely amazing - fresh, fresh, citrus scent! I also use it in my kitchen and bathroom. Love it! The Soap Chest is a family run business and they make all the soaps right there in house. They also grow many of the herbs that they use in their soaps. That said, I don't think any of their soaps are listed as having organic ingredients, and most of their soaps contain soy oil and essential oils which I avoid. Their single, stand-alone plain soap (aptly called Plain Jane) surprisingly doesn't contain soy and consists of only olive, coconut, avocado and palm oils. I've tried it once since purchase and it is a lovely soap, though I have to say I still prefer my fancy organic soaps. I do wonder where their oils are sourced, especially the palm oil, but generally I was happy to find a plain and simple 'Made in Camas' soap. I wish they would offer more plain soaps with various different oil blends, or other basic soaps without the essential oils and soy (milk and honey comes to mind). I am looking forward to seeing the company evolve! I forget the prices per bar, but their prices were fair. The soaps are great for personal use, but I think they would also be great gifts to give someone you might visit out of town as a gift of something from Camas. read more
