Ted and Fernando played during our cocktail hour at the reception. They were very responsive in communication, even during the holiday season, and punctual on the day of. It was fun getting a text message from them when they were all set up, a great way of letting us know that all is good and we have so much to look forward to. We planned a destination wedding to San Diego from Wisconsin and found The Sophisticados online. I'd worked with Ted directly from the start-from consideration through post-event. I can't say enough about how incredibly helpful, communicative and professional he was from the start. He was not only articulate and the services they offered but also showed more interest in us and our event than any of the others to ensure he'd offer exactly what we were looking for. He offered incredible insight on points we never considered to ensure we had the equipment and timeline that made the most sense and proactively worked with our venue and planner to coordinate the details so we didn't have to. He consistently exceeded our expectations in his communication and response times. The quality of their music was exceptional. We heard countless compliments from our guests about how much they enjoyed the music but also how fun the guys were to interact with. The Sophisticados played at my wedding in Puerto Rico and were a huge hit. They played background music before and during the wedding ceremony and it was beautiful. Our wedding was on the beach and they set up and played and knew exactly what to do to make sure you could hear the music over the noise of the wind & waves. They even learned a new song for me and we surprised my husband and I performed it live with them at the reception. I hired The Sophisticados to play at my parents' wedding anniversary party this past weekend. I got so much more than I bargained for and more! First of all, I was not an easy client. This was a surprise party; venues fell through, times, dates, and the entire time Ted and Fernando were responsive and courteous to my needs. If you ask nicely, I think Ted and Fernando will even learn a couple of your favorite songs for you : ) The day of the party arrived, and I was 15 minutes late. I showed up and Ted and Fernando had already set up their equipment (I didn't have to provide them anything but an outlet!) and essentially finished their sound check. They were ready to go before I was! Not only this, but they offered their mic in case we wanted to join in on any of the songs or make announcements. They became more a part of the party than purely a supporting role. At the same time, they didn't make themselves the center of the party, which allowed for everyone for mingle. My parents walked in and Ted and Fernando began playing on cue. Their music is perfect for seaside dining, and their sounds complement each other nicely. They use a combination of background sounds and guitar with Latin influence, but they will customize their music to your wishes. I would book them again in a heartbeat for a poolside party, a smaller wedding reception, or maybe even my parents' next milestone anniversary. I hired the Sophisticados last June (2017) to play background music for a conference I manage at Rancho Bernardo Inn. We had a Committee & Sponsor Dinner for about 50 people on an outside patio and the Sophisticadoes not only complemented, but completed the evening. I heard so many positive comments from our guests, and requests to have them back. So, I hired them again for our June, 2018 Dinner and, again, they did not disappoint. I asked them to allow another entertainer to sing a couple of songs during the evening and, being the professionals they are, they readily agreed and provided beautiful improv accompaniment. It thrilled our group. We could not have been more pleased with the entire evening. Ted and Fernando are truly professional, extremely talented musicians and we love their Latin style and their ability to play just about anything you would like to hear. They are super solid musicians that don't require a huge amount of space or infrastructure to put on a nice show. They are very reasonably priced for what you get and are fun and personable folks. Full disclosure, these guys are friends of ours. That said, we still wouldn't have hired anyone else to play at our wedding reception. We also go the see them perform around town occasionally. They've perfected a cool lounge/latin guitar style that makes every performance sound fresh and every cover sound new. They downplay their stage presence for excellent background music and know when to step it up when they're playing to a crowd. read more
