Admittedly I am always nervous when going to New Haven because I never know where to park, which door to go in, which floor to go to, etc. However, the Breathing Room website is EXTREMELY helpful and lists all of the parking options and fees (including the lot right next to the building for only $3). I was there for a 3 day workshop and I had a great time. We were in the aerial studio (although the hammocks were hung up and out of the way) and it was really clean, there were tons of props and the windows and brick were so lovely. There are also plenty of bathrooms, changing areas, a couple of large sitting areas, tons of tasteful retail (shirts, yoga pants, jewelry, essential oils, mala beads, etc), a water bottle filling fountain, and hot tea in little cups is always available. There are 3 yoga rooms, all with their own personalities and lots of cubbies for storing things while you're taking classes. Although I didn't get a chance to visit this time around, there's also a float center that I've heard great things about. I haven't taken classes yet with any of the BR instructors, but I have heard only positive things from the students who have that I'm dying to come back to try some of them! The people who work at the reception desk are all very friendly and helpful and the owner Margot is very welcoming and has created an amazing space with great energy. This place is a true gem!

I was a little intimidated at first, but all of the people there have such varied experience - from beginner to advanced. The classes are non-judgmental and the teachers encourage you to do what's comfortable. They have "consent chips" that you can flip over if you're not comfortable with the teacher adjusting your posture. I do think the class descriptions might be a little misleading. Form and Flow was my first class ever and I could hardly keep up. The classes that are for "all experience levels" sometimes require at least a little bit of knowledge of the poses in order to do what you're supposed to do. Other than that, I think it's safe to say that I'm obsessed.

Jessica Demers, owner of Body Karma in Clinton, definitely has that energy--she sings while she dances, she's encouraging, and she's clearly having a blast. Set to an upbeat soundtrack of pop, Latin tunes, Zumba tracks, and a healthy dose of holiday songs (I attended class just before Christmas), Jessica and I box-stepped, twirled, swayed, and cut a proverbial rug across the studio's wooden floor. What I loved most about her class was we didn't only dance--Jessica also incorporated strength-training intervals with hand weights and kettlebells to get our heart rate up and work our legs, glutes, abs, arms, and shoulders. By the end of the hour I was a sweaty mess, albeit a happy one--not only is Zumba one of the best exercises for cardio and coordination, it's also a great way to elevate your mood. Classes: Zumba, yoga, pilates. Schedule: Between 4 and 7 morning and evening classes Monday through Thursday, 3 morning classes on Friday and Saturday, and 2 morning classes on Sunday. Atmosphere: Quaint and homey, with new local art exhibited on the walls every three months. Price: $15 drop-in, 5 classes-$65, 10 classes-$110, 20 classes-$200. I love their tech savy: they text, you sign your waver on an iPad, get an email receipt, they have phone charging stations in the cubbies. I love the unpretentious atmosphere with cute bright colors, local artists paintings for sale, and cute little mini lounge with bright pillows. Nice staff, nice teachers! Class: For me personally, the particular Yoga class I chose was too mellow and too spiritual. It was a Daoist form of Yoga which I have not experienced before, and there was a lot of focus on energy work, healing, and meridian lines. It was a very slow series of flowing movements. Although I tried to engage my muscles as much as possible in the poses, I never got to a point where my body felt warm. I tried to surrender to the class, maybe I need to relax! But, I'm totally OCD about symmetry and I kept drifting visually to all the textures and colors in the room, and found all the details too distracting. The room was on the colder side, and with the slow class I ended up feeling unpleasantly cold. Overall I suspect that this atmosphere with all the fun bright colors would be great during Zumba, or a more active training class, which they do offer. I'd also be more careful personally to understand that there are many different types of yoga, and understand exactly which kind of class I am attending! I'd try them again for a more active class

They still accepted my gift card and thankfully so as I decided to go for some relaxation and skin preparation for my wedding. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was absolutely wonderful and relaxing. The woman at the front desk was extremely kind and answered any questions I had about anything. She was super sweet! She literally walked me backed explaining their process because it was my first time being there. Everything was clean and clozy and they have a waiting room outside the immaculate bathroom with multiple, private showers and very homey-feeling restrooms (it's a whole room with a door that fully closes - no stalls or anything of that nature) and even little benches in the bathroom so you can rest your belongings there. After changing into my luxurious soft robe and slippers (think croc material, good for cleaning) I waited in the relaxation room before being individually called by my esthetician/therapist. She walked me to my individual room, complete with a sink, massage table, another bench, plenty of hooks and closets for their supplies so they do not leave throughout the treatment, except to get you a glass of water at the end . She explained everything to me and inquired about my routine and skin type and kept politely checking to make sure I was comfortable throughout the experience. My therapist was Jada Lynne and although I selected "any therapist", I was very happy with her approach, kindness and informative knowledge that I will definitely select her on purpose next time. From the facial to the lower legs and feet treatment PLUSH arm and hand massage I felt EXTREMELY relaxed as I lead a busy lifestyle and that is sometimes hard for me, I was very thankful for the good vibes and peace she radiated. As she led me back to the relaxation room after the Tranquilty Signature Facial I felt so relaxed and honestly a little disoriented in a good way. I rarely treat myself to anything and this was just that, a real treat. I sat for a few minutes, drinking water and tea while soaking up the relaxation and did not feel rushed at all, by anyone at any time. Everyone was so nice and they have a beautiful selection of merchandise/skin care/natural little odds and ends in their lobby as well. Thank you Tranquility Wellness Spa, I will definitely be back very soon! Although I live Easton, the experience and service I received will keep me coming back for more!
