I stayed 2 nights at the Nakoma Resort. It's a nice looking building. The rooms look nice ,…read moretoo...but in my opinion were not designed for the user/guest experience. As I entered the room I noticed the coffee area. I was happy to see I could have coffee in the room in the morning. It was a bit strange to see the sweeteners, sugar and cream in a zip lock baggie?!. It just seemed cheap and cheesy...not to mention there wasn't a stir stick to be had...and only 2 regular and 2 decaf Kcup. I asked for get more for the next morning and didn't not find it when I returned after hours. No front desk, or any other service after about 7 I think. I got some from my sisters' room thank goodness I will say the beds were pretty comfy. I sat on it to check it out and saw the ?window? into the bathroom which really caused me to wonder why someone would do that. It is obscure, but anyone in there can be seen pretty easily according to my sisters who were sharing another room. They were quite surprised as well. Another thing that got my attention was the height of the shower head. I'm just under 5'-7" and could just barely reach it to aim it or change the spray pattern. There is nothing in the tub to get traction and I had a couple of slips that I wasn't expecting...no grab bars anywhere!? After my shower I had to exit the 'bathroom' to the mirror and sink to shave and brush?!? It's located right next to the coffee cabinet... which it right at the door!... a counter with a sink and mirror. The 'bathroom' sink! Seriously?! What a dumb place for the 'bathroom sink! It's RIGHT at the door and there seems to be no thought of privacy in these rooms! The faucet at the sink is quite tall and as the water hits the very flat square sink the water splashes onto yo and the surrounding area! I had to start laughing...but was not happy. I turned on the 'lights' for the sink and laughed yet again. There is 1 light over head for the door but behind you...and the 'lighted' mirror. There are 2 lights at top and bottom the just throw a little 'glow'. I can't call it 'light' because it was so dim. So with all available lighting, it was woefully lacking! I don't have the makeup thing to worry about...but for ladies that do, lol, good luck!!! It's really hard to imagine how anyone designing this room had any thought of the guests. If I was there with an intimate partner...that might be one thing...but other than that...I like to get ready after a shower in private. It really blew my mind...bad designer!! Way more interested the 'look' than utility!!! I was also disappointed that the only place to have a sit down meal was all the way across the street and up quite a long driveway! You have to order from the bartender and then it's brought to you. again, seemed cheap and cheesy to me...but whatever. The Nakoma Resort seems to brag itself up as a luxury experience and everything I saw and experienced was WAY under 'par'! It seems there was no thought put into the guests convenience or experience...and it isn't inexpensive either...just sayin... If you can, stay somewhere else!

We usually enjoy our stay here yearly. This year customer service was subpar. It started with a…read moresimple light bulb being burned out. I asked two days in a row for a replacement, even bringing it to the front desk to a woman asking for it to be replaced and currently am sitting here without a bedside lamp. Richard at the front desk was friendly, but was unavailable when asking for assistance. Next, the toilet paper holder was hanging by a thread. Last, we could not get dinner reservations at the lodge or massage appointments at the lodge or nearby. Dinner is tricky around here and the front desk doesn't tell you that. Many places aren't open beyond 6:30 or at all and some will only take reservations and are booked. Our last night here we had to drive to Portola and have pizza in order to have food. Thank goodness the staff at the pizza place were happy to have our business and the pizza was delicious.
