After all it is about the chef and the authenticity of the food. Of course the food are done for the palates of the locals, but if you need some spice ask for the chef special. It not only has a kick, it has a smoky flavour of sweet hotness. We went pretty safe on the choices as this was the first outing. The starters were ribs with salt and chilli and the lettuce cups with pork. The ribs were really meaty and flavourful. I only got to steal one from my partner's plate. That is a sign of his loving them. He is always on the search for ribs. The lettuce wraps filling was great. Full of vegetables (peas, mushrooms, corn and ginger) but the lettuce was a bit off as it was hard to break into. But this was of no consequence as having the filling on its own was pretty good. For the mains, we had the chicken with ginger and scallions and the Singapore noodles. The chicken was great nice slices of white meat and a clear sauce. It went down nice with some white rice and for me more hot sauce. The noodles were really nice and I wish my appetite was bigger but after the hefty lunch will be taking the rest home! The curry flavour is very subtle and not powdery as seems to be the case at times. I forced myself to have a bit more as I am sure cold it will not be as nice Now the comeback trip will be for good old Chinese style Seafood. One can order a day before crab with ginger and scallions. If this comes out the way I expect then no need for a New York trip for my fix.

The first decision we had to make was where to eat - confusingly there is a steakhouse upstairs, and very similar menu downstairs, but with tapas too. It seemed nice down there with booths and a fun looking bar, so we went with the path of least resistance and stayed downstairs. The evening was lovely, the food was very good - we had Szechuan prawns, followed by steak, mushrooms and cheesy mash. It was all very tasty, but what really made the evening was the wine - the South African Pinotage was delicious! Service was good, and there is the button on the table that sends an electric shock through the wait staff to get them to scurry over to your table! Lovely place, brilliant night!

The breakfast is also very good, with a great choice, despite having to ask for a few dirty cups to be changed. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the town centre so it's great even without own transport. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, although we had no real cause to call upon them. The car park is very small and tight, so it is often difficult to park. Unfortunately the 'free wireless' had zero reception in the hotel room and even in the hotel bar I could get connected but not through to the Internet. Although there are small flat TVs in the rooms, the channel selection is limited to the main terrestrial channels and a slim choice of others. Although the bathroom was clean, the hotel towels are miniscule and the thread count is almost zero. The shower suffered from an extreme lack of pressure and went cold every time somebody flushed a toilet anywhere in the hotel! Our room was at the rear of the hotel and because there was no air conditioning, we had the window open, which was very noisy in the morning because it was adjacent to a supermarket. Overall, despite the minor negative points, we'd definitely stay again because of the cleanliness, good food and good service at a very good price.
