I came here to grab a coffee after visiting the depot museum. This place has been here a while as I remember seeing it at a family trip to the Ft. Payne area years ago. I was glad to try it on this visit. It's impressively large inside and so there's tons of space to spread out so you can have peace and quiet to work or read or space to gather with friends. It was fairly empty and quiet when I visited but it was later in the afternoon for a coffee. They also have a small selection of goods that would make nice gifts, such as tea bags and honey. The employee working was very nice and we chatted a little about the new specialty drink she was workshopping. The drink menu is creative and has a lot of different options. They also have sandwiches and other light lunch options. I asked her what her favorite drink was and she said she liked the honeybee latte (espresso with vanilla syrup and honey) extra sweet. I replied that I like a little coffee in my dessert and asked her to make me one. It was out quickly and looked yummy - maybe a tiny bit small for the price but nothing egregious. Overall, I liked the drink. The ground cinnamon on top was a nice touch. I'm glad she made it extra sweet because regular might not have been quite enough for me. I did think the vanilla had a slightly artificial taste to it that I didn't love, but it also wasn't egregious. I'd probably try a different latte if I return just to explore the other options and see if I found one I liked better, but again, overall, I was satisfied with my experience. This place is worth a visit if you're needing caffeine or a good place to hang out in the area. read more

I was camping in the area for the week and needed a place to work for only two days. The employees at Food City recommended this place and I'm soooo glad they did!! It was perfect. Each booth has outlets, other than the blender, it wasn't loud. I was able to get coffee, breakfast and lunch without having to leave the building. Thank you to the wonderful staff!! read more

What a gem! My sister and I were driving through on a girls trip and stopped in downtown Fort Payne to walk around a bit. We found this coffee shop which had the best menu! As a low caffeine girly I was so happy to hear that they carry decaf espresso, so they could make any latte decaf. I ordered one of their specialty honey bun lattes and it was absolutely delicious! My sister got a hot tea and my nieces enjoyed iced coffee and iced chai. The space is historic, yet comfortable. It's beautifully decorated. The staff is very friendly and explained all of the drinks efficiently. If I lived here I would definitely have my book club meet at this spot every time! The girl who took my order was sweet. I paid leaving a tip even though I should ask for it back. It took almost 10 minutes to make my latte. The rude person that made it decided to train the sweet girl instead of fixing a waiting customers drink. Once she decided to actually make it she sat it on the opposite side of the counter vs where I'm standing. She looked at me and pointed to where it was left. The coffee itself was fine, but it took over 30 minutes to get one iced coffee while the shop was practically empty. Behind the counter were three employees. There didn't seem to be any promptness or communication about the delay. I understand things happen, but for such a simple order during a slow time, the wait was pretty ridiculous. The food and drinks were perfect. I had a half and half tea and my wife tried the latte. Both were excellent. I ordered the Italian sandwich. It was perfect on a ciabatta bun and heated to perfection. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the ham and cheese with chips and pickle spear. Both sandwiches were prepared well and garnished to perfection. The brown sugar cinnamon poptart latte was pretty good, but I like mine a bit sweeter and creamier. You've probably heard of a dive bar or restaurant .... well, I think I just made it into my first dive Coffee shop. When you first walk in, you walk up to the counter and place your order (located in the center of the coffee shop). They do have some food items (sandwich type stuff and some dessert items), but we were here for something to drink. My wife got one of the signature coffee's and I had them make me one of their steamer like drinks. The wait was kind of on the long side, took about 15 minutes to get our drinks. They were nice and hot, but to be totally honest, I really was less than impressed with my drink. My wife thought her coffee was fine. The place itself is a hodgepodge of chairs, tables, couches, recliners, etc sitting around the center area where they prepare the drinks. They were a little crowded for a mid-afternoon on a Saturday (I thought anyway). For me, I wouldn't be in a rush to come back, it was fine, but, I'd want to check other places out first. read more

How fortunate (or divine intervention) it was when the Sweeney's took a wrong turn on their way to DeSota Falls in 2013. 'The Spot' was born capitalizing on a vision and the faith to see it through. Hardwood floor and local art adorn the inside. Patrons can choose to sit at the soda bar, booths, tables, window seating, couches or plush armchairs while eating various choices of salads, soups, paninis, wraps, coffees, teas, frappes and shakes. A comfortable and safe hang out for the local teens but spacious and eclectic enough for all ages to enjoy. A definite thumbs up! Very disappointing- they no longer use a Panini press for their turkey bacon Panini and they no longer have Cape Cod chips with it. They give you a a very small bag of baked chips (which I hate) along with a very small bag of jalapeño flavored potato chips. It still comes with the kosher dill pickle wedge on the side which was the only thing familiar. This was my favorite place to get a Panini, never again :( This was a to go order, didn't see until I got home, otherwise I would had inquired about the changes. The person ringing up the order was really nice but it took 35 minutes for two lattes which is ridiculous. They also gave me the wrong order, I was given a frozen hot chocolate, honestly it was really good but I needed the latte with espresso shots for the long roadtrip ahead. The barista knew I was upset, apologized and mentioned he would refund the order but that never occurred. If you're in a rush I'd skip this place but if you have time to spare and don't mind a long wait stop on by. I really hope they can figure things out and become efficient. read more

It has been a few years since I've visited The Spot. They have upgraded in interior design and the menu! I recently stopped by to get some work done. The Tomato Basil soup was perfect for a cold day. My iced mocha was creamy and delicious. The baristas were super nice and stopped to lend a hand when I accidentally spilled my coffee, even while they were slammed. I can tell this place still has a great local reputation because there was a line to the register throughout my entire stay. I can't wait to visit home again and return :) read more

Quaint downtown coffee shop. Positives are that the service was friendly and fast. My drawback was not really a negative but more of a new thing for me. This place seems like it has so much potential but my experience was not great. The menu says you can do hot or iced. So I ordered an iced coffee. They poured hot/warm coffee over ice so it ended up looking like tea. I ordered the peanut butter toast which is supposed to have peanut butter, banana slices and honey. It came out with PB only. When I asked where was the test they told me they were out of bananas and I could put honey on it from the little packets if I wanted. That's not how you run a business. Go to Walmart and get a few bananas so your kitchen is stocked with the needed ingredients. My breakfast burrito was so tiny. We ended up spending $20 on a breakfast not worth $10. I travel through here quite a bit. Definitely will be skipping this place in the future. read more

Traveling from DC to Birmingham, with nary a Starbucks in sight, we were blessed to find The Spot Coffee Shop. This place is cool, friendly, and amazing decor and character. The coffee is good and the lite-fare menu has something for everyone. Parking is right in front. A hearty recommendation. Update: Loved everything about this joint- but in fairness I must say the coffee was meh. High acidity that didn't age well as the coffee cooled once we were back in the car and on our way. Still highly recommend... check out the nostalgic mill/seamstress building across the street. read more

We are visiting in Firt Payne for a few days and saw that this place had a really good rating...so stopped for breakfast. Hubby just had an everything bagel with cream cheese which he said was fresh and good. I had the egg, cheese and ham chiatta bread (un)sandwich....had it all just as a breakfast not all together in a sandwich :) LOTS of ham, plenty of eggs (2 or 3), frozen has brown patty (which is fine) and the bread was very fresh and good! read more

She and her husband share ownership of one of the best little "Spots" to eat. Their staff is polite, friendly, kind and efficient. I dig The Spot! I actually have never heard of this place until just a couple of weeks ago when they recently opened a 2nd location in my neighborhood in Chattanooga. I was chatting with one of the employees who asked if I had been to the Fort Payne location and I said I hadn't but that I get to Fort Payne fairly regularly for work and she said I should check it out. The next week I found myself there to meet up with some new hire employees for my company. The Spot was the perfect place to meet. I love the eclectic furniture and decor. It's funky and spacious. I met the owner there too and he was super friendly and welcoming. During my 4 hour stay there to work, I had some coffee, iced tea and lunch. All were good. For lunch I took the suggestion of the staff and got the Ruben Panini. Oh my it is yummy!!! Very very tasty and filling. I can see why it's popular. I look forward to getting back there soon and trying out some other items. read more

It was a beautiful and cold day. We hiked around De Soto park we hiked 4 miles. We were so hungry after being in the fresh air for a couple hours. The nature around us was amazing -we even saw some snow. We visited The Spot before and really enjoyed it. It is a cozy place with good art and piano . We were lucky this time and one of the visitors played the piano so nicely. Lunch went well. I enjoyed my grilled chicken pesto sandwich. I really wanted a hot tea and I drink decaf but their selection is not that big. I just drink plain black decaf but they did not have it. And I was ready for a good pastry and they did not have it too. They have very good selection of ice cream but no thank you on cold day like this. But we will visit this place again. This is a solid little "spot!" We were passing through and took a few extra minutes off the highway to get coffee and sandwiches and it was well worth checking out this local shop. The Italian Panini and Chicken Salad sandwich were good and well portioned. The iced coffee had a lot more half and half in it than I would preferred but I could have specified more.
