This is the creme de la creme of pet grooming. We just got a rescue 5 year old goldendoodle and she is very skittish and fearful. In years past, I took my shihtzu and Labrador to Beth for grooming and was always happy and so were the dogs! My last dog passed away about 5 years ago, so when we got "Emma", I didn't hesitate to return to The Spotted Dog. Samantha, the groomer, was so calm and reassuring to Emma and me:) she trimmed Emma's nails, cleaned her ears, and bathed and brushed her. She looks like a new and very nice smelling girl. I will be taking Emma back there soon. On a side note, the salon is very clean and tidy. I waited in the lobby for Emma to be finished and I enjoyed reading the magazines:) Thanks for caring about our critters, Spotted Dog,as much as we do! I visited without my pet and explained service needed (nail trim)... Bella Rose is a rescue, humane case, baby maker for 4 years. She is very afraid of lots of things., although she weights 70 pounds. She has lived with me for about a year now and we have learned a lot. There are so many things she does not like, that I tried to explain to hear how they would handle her. They gave me the end of the day appt on Friday so the office would be clear . Thought that would be better for her. Too bad that was the last understanding we received from Spotted Dog staff. It was very busy there for her and after everyone left, upon entering the place after having to wait in the car with the heat, she was already spent. They proceeded to pull her into the back for nails. I told them that would not work. I was allowed to accompany her to the back if I had a mask and was prepared. Someone else came out and tried to pull her again. Bella just doesn't agree to humans doing that. I told them again that would not work. They wanted to disallow my entrance to the back and I realized why. There were two other dogs there and the large dog began barking. The groomer said it was because the dog was guarding her, which mattered less to me. Bella was freaked out and began backing out of the room, and I stated we were leaving. I will never go back. This place was insensitive to a rescues needs, so I felt compelled to write this review. What these people told me and what occurred was not the same. Neither Bella nor I would stand for that. read more

My cat Boris has been been neglected by his brush since we had our baby 6 months ago. He is a Persian with a very thick coat and he started getting very knotty due to the humidity and lack of regular brushing. I called today and secured a same day opening if I could be there at 11a.m. sharp. I was immediately greeted by someone at the counter and they took Boris back while I went back to work. I warned them of his wicked temper for brushings, nail clippings, and hair cuts. I came back and he looked awesome. Although he gave them trouble, he warmed up as soon as the grooming tools were put away. He was in a very good mood when I got him home, and pranced around the house knowing he looked good! We are definitely going back here. The price was nice and so was the staff. In reference to the review above by Annie S., the building surely did not smell of urine (although that is very common in pet stores, groomers, and vets due to the fact animals are there). The lobby was free and clear of pet hair. There was pet hair under the dog they were clipping (in the grooming area). Thanks ladies. read more

Beth is the best of the best! I take my cats there and she trims their claws, brushes out knots in fur, etc. One of my cats is a very long hair (and chunky) kitty who has issues with keeping his "back end" clean due to the length of his hair (and how much he weighs... lol) and Beth is so good with him. She shaves that area super short for him and it helps the issue drastically as well as makes his litter box events a lot less stressful. Cannot thank Beth and her crew enough for being as awesome as they are. Every city should have a "Beth"... seriously. She loves (and talks to) every single one of the animals that walks in her door like they are her own.. and that says so much. She gives them love and hugs the whole time they are there. I don't typically write reviews, so something really needs to catch my attention to do so. I heard about this place from a neighbor, and decided to check it out. My dog needs his nails trimmed about every three weeks, a process that he screams and shakes for. Of course, when I got there, he started the shaking. Samantha took him back and I waited for the horrid yelps he typically does, as if someone is killing him. Only one yelp the entire time. I heard Samantha reassuring him and calming him. First time ever grooming for older rescued dog. Groomers were calm, patient and understanding. Bather and groomer took their time. They allowed frightened dog to relax before continuing their work on her. We scheduled another appointment in 6 weeks. The Spotted Dog is the best! It is the only place we will go. My shih-tzu, Sophie, will not let many people handle her without biting - she broke her elbow as a puppy and had many traumatic experiences. We heard that Beth, the owner, is affectionately called "the dog whisperer," so we gave them a try a couple years ago. Beth has definitely worked her magic with Sophie! Sophie loves her and won't let anyone else touch her. We were so relieved. They continue to do such a wonderful job there that I had to post about it-and I have never done a review for anything before. We take both of our shih-tzus there. Beth always grooms Sophie, and Wilson (the easy one) gets groomed by another staff member. Their service is always awesome, the place is so clean, and my dogs look so beautiful when we pick them up. Very friendly staff. I took my dog to this salon because it is close to my house. However, two of the three(or four) times my dog has gone she has come back with cuts/ears were burned that ended up costing me more in vet bills then it would have been worth to just take her somewhere not as close to my house. The first time I took her she came back and the insides of her ears were severely burned/cut that I had to take her to the vet costing me roughly $100 in vet bills. I called the owner and spoke with the groomer and they were very apologetic and offered a free grooming and to take care of the vet bill ( which I did not have them do, mistakes happen) and told me each groomer rents a chair and could resolve it in the best way they felt necessary. I did accept the free groom and on her second visit, everything was fine (obviously I went with another person at the shop). The third time I took her, she came home and the inside of her legs were cut again. Trying to avoid the vet but if it worsens will have to take her there. Please be aware that each groomer "rents a chair" essentially so if you are going here, I would recommend only going to the owner. read more

After waiting two weeks for an appointment for our small dog, we showed up to our appointment 10-15 minutes late due to illness in our home out of my control as a Mom. Life happens. Walking in I immediately apologized for being late first and foremost. We have taken our dog to this salon many times because it was affordable and have NEVER been late to a previous appointment. However, I was greeted with a more than obvious eye-roll and audible huff (my 11 year old daughter even noticed it) from the groomer. To which I again apologized but did not go into detail on why we were late. I was then told she had already called her last appointment in for the day because we weren't there on time and our dog would have to wait (in a cage) until after that dog arrived and was groomed first. Mind you that dog was not even there yet. I then asked if the groomer had tried any attempt to call us? Her appointment book was open and I could visually see she had our phone numbers. She replied, "No." with attitude and even a smirk. I asked why, and all she did was repeat that she had called her last appointment to come in early. In my mind I reasoned... OF COURSE she did.. she was hoping to leave work early as she had a child in the back room with her. Sensing her mindset and attitude I stepped back from the counter and told her I could sense she is hostile and I don't want to have my dog get a bad cut because the groomer is upset and she replied, "Oh she won't get a bad cut." I, however, did not believe her has this time when we entered the building we had to drag my dog in as she braced all four paws in lock down mode. Remembering past nicks and cuts on my dog from clippers at this salon, it was at this point I told her to just never mind and go ahead with her next appointment and we left. In the past I had looked past the FILTH of "The Spotted Dog." There is animal hair everywhere and layers of dust.. not to mention the odor of urine. And if you think that is normal for a pet salon let me tell you what happened next.... As I left The Spotted Dog disgusted that my continued business wasn't of value to them, I decided to drive down RT 83 to "Gone To The Dogs Salon" to see if I could get our dog in for an appointment in the near future. Upon entering the salon it did not smell of anything other than clean nor was there any animal hair in any nook or cranny of the store front (and believe me I looked). Their products were neat and tidy on the shelves and my dog had no issues upon entrance. The groomer was friendly and greeted me and also my dog by even coming out from behind the counter to talk to us. My daughter enjoyed shopping around the store and looking at the pet products and toys while we talked. To my surprise the groomer worked me in for TOMORROW morning! And what I liked best was this groomer never bad mouthed "The Spotted Dog" even after I told her of how we were treated... pure class! We have found a new groomer and I suggest to anyone looking for a groomer in the Avon area to compare. Walk in to both groomers and see the difference for yourself. After all.. our dog is our family. read more

We take our golden retriever here and they do a fantastic job of grooming her - Beth is the best! Our dog struggles with allergies so we take her in every three weeks, she loves going. We have never had an issue at The Spotted Dog Pet Salon. In fact have always received great service and furthermore our dogs look and feel good for a reasonable price. In addition the supposed amazing salon that is referred to in the previous post cut our dog's hair straight across at the bottom where it hangs down despite our instructions not to do any cutting. The dog looked absolutely ridiculous and despite our displeasure they were not apologetic. We did not ever return to their facility. We continue to patronize The Spotted Dog however and support them wholeheartedly. read more

I was in town from Maryland and I needed a last minute appointment for my toy poodle, Henry. I called everywhere and the spotted dog was the only place that could squeeze him in on a moments notice. He was 4 months old at the time and had never been groomed before. When I dropped him off the place was clean and he immediately climbed out of my arms, over the counter and into the arms of heather, who works there. I left him happy and calm and picked him up the same way, only much cleaner and with a great little puppy cut. Since Im in town every other month, I keep bringing him back, everyone in Maryland asks where I get him groomed and I smile and say, Ohio! My parents have started taking their mini poodle there as well, because he never liked their old groomer and he seems to be less skittish about the grooming process ever since they made the switch. The prices are very good, and the staff is accomodating - I don't always make my appointments in advance, but they always seem to make room for my dogs. After getting my first puppy who I treat as my baby, I was very nervous getting her groomed anywhere. After hearing about how great this groomer is from my friend, I decide to take my puppy here. I have not gotten an appointment the next day but they are busy because they are so good, which I do not mind, just call a week ahead and you will deffinitly get one when you want! The owner was super nice, and understood exactly what I wanted done. I asked for her advise and she took the time to give it and make sure I know exactly how she will cut it. My puppy is usually very scared around strangers, but she was so comfortable with them, they really know how to interact with dogs and make them feel loved! After the grooming, she looked amazing with exactly what I wanted, and she told me about my puppy's experience and how my puppy did. I was shocked when reading the below review that I just had to say how much I love this groomers and how I have never had any kind of problem. Would and have reccomended to my family and friends who now take their dogs here.
