The staff is friendly and the food is good. Coming from Spain, this place was very expensive comparatively. With a salad, a sandwich, fish and chips, a burger, four drinks and two desserts we paid a little over £100. The food was good; however, the sandwich was a little too salty for my taste and the apple crumble left more to be wanted. The atmosphere was terrific and very cozy. Erica was our server for dinner and she was phenomenal! Very friendly and helpful! Hubby and I both ordered Fish & Chips. The fish was perfectly prepared & cooked. Not too heavy or too greasy. Yay! We made it to London! Our party of 5 is catching a bite to eat down the street from our hotel is Nicholson's -St. George's tavern. Zed is our server. He so attentive. He is new but willing to ask all of our questions and find all the answers. Thanks Zed. Now on to this food. We so excited trying everything. For starters we have the sausage appetizer. Mary has the Landlord platter for her meal, Felicia got the chicken and mushroom pie. Pam and I got the fish and chips and Matriarch got steak. Everything taste like it needs a little seasoning, it's just a little bland. But overall the food is served hot and fresh. I enjoyed my food but did not Touch those mushy peas. What a delightful tavern! Staying up the street at the Doubletree and came here for an early dinner. Love that ordering and paying is contactless self serve! Great variety of food and everything came out hot and was delicious!! Ordered sausage and mashed potatoes with grilled onions. The sausages were tasty and enough that defers 2-3 people! The mashed potatoes were very creamy and the grilled onions added a different flavor! Then there's the beef gravy on top...mmm! So flavorful albeit a little in the salty side. Ordered a tomato tarte too which was delicious with a light balsamic reduction over it. Place is empty for Sunday roast for a reason. Avoid. The roast is terrible and hard as a rock. The Yorkshire pudding was nothing but a flat bread. Garlic with mushrooms on sourdough was stuff with soggy spinach. The sticky toffee pudding came out frozen. Avoid. read more

We elected to meet at this place because it was near Victoria station. I would recommend finding somewhere else (there are other places a few blocks away that are infinitely better). The tables were sticky, the menus were in a similar state (I tried to switch with another and it was in the same state). You had to order at the bar (not horrible), but the bartender didn't even understand the drinks that they had written on the board for the evening. We did have some nachos while waiting for the other members of our party and they were wonderfully pulled out of a warming oven. Move on and pick somewhere better. read more

We spotted this good- looking traditional pub walking from Victoria Station. After an intrepid day of sight-seeing, we were thirsty & hungry. The tavern has been operating since 1873. The space has a large bar with stools, and lots of pub & dining tables. Tavern is clean and the bartender is friendly. I ordered up the fish & chips. Large piece of fresh cod fried perfectly delicious. The thick cut fries were good too. The portion was large, but I was so famished....no leftovers. I washed the meal down with hard cider (two pints). I tried the fish & chips meal at two other pubs. St. George's was the best tasting.. no contest. I'm glad to have found this pub. Cozy atmosphere and good grub in Churchill's dining room downstairs at St George's Tavern in the shadow of Victoria Station. We were four tired American backpackers including our 78-year-old mother and 7-year-old son! There is no easy way to tell if kids are allowed in certain pubs after certain times, and we were welcomed without issue here. There is no kids menu, and so our picky son had the Steak Frites, which is a thin, well-seasoned steak and chips. He ate every bite. Friendly and accommodating staff served up their homebrewed ale alongside satisfying traditional and tasty fare. Had an English Ploughman, cheese and cracker platter with breads and spreads, usually a dessert but I had it as a meal! Thoroughly enjoyed the Tomato and Davidstow Cheddar soup with herbed oil and a giant ciabatta slice. The Peri-Peri chicken wing appetizer with bleu cheese was meaty and had just the right kick. The Fish and Chips were perfectly battered and a great representative of this classic London dish. Topped it all off with an absolutely delectable Sticky Toffee Pudding our mouths will water for forever. At every turn, we enjoyed this charming pub. Enough to do something we avoid on vacation - we ate there twice. read more

I liked St. Georges. We stopped by for breakfast the other day and got a great deal on a huge English breakfast that was good for 2 people and cost a mere 4.50 pounds. The food was standard and not the best I've ever had, but it was fresh and quickly served. Reminded me of what you'd get a good NY diner. The decor is fairly basic, and the atmosphere looked to be a mix of tourists and locals. Overall the vibe was about what you'd expect from a local pub situated in an area with a lot of Hotels and whatnot. And finally, the service was friendly and pleasant. This pub will hold a certain fondness in my heart. This pub was located around the corner from our apartment that we rented for a week. It was the sight of my first pint in London, celebrating the beginning of an exciting week in the city. On several occasions during the course of the week, we would make this our home base for meeting my travel companions as we criss-crossed the city soaking in all that is great about London. One of my travel companions raved about the fish and chips. While it is a relatively standard Nicholson's pub, I enjoyed it nonetheless. The staff behind the bar was extremely attentive and friendly. The waitresses were equally kind. As pub food goes, I was pleased with my lunch choice. One of my friends ordered a vegetable tart which was definitely the best of our three lunch choices. Should I return, I would definitely order that! The pub has a few outdoor seats when the weather is nice. Additionally, the pub has free wi-fi, which was helpful as a visitor to the city. This might be a tourist trap (I'm not actually sure) but I highly enjoyed it. We just noticed that everyone in the room with us was also American. This had the perfect pub atmosphere... I could see myself hanging out here for hours. Very relaxing and a ton of great beer options! We also had food- we got the sampler appetizer, which was all really good except the nachos were laughable. The sausage was especially amazing. My fiancé had the steak and chips which he said was just "ok." I got the steak and ale pie- it was super delicious, but very heavy. Come hungry if you're going to eat! Really nice pub/restaurant close to the DoubleTree Victoria where I was staying with my mother on a recent trip to London. Having been my first trip to the U.K. I quickly learned that the bar area and restaurants are on different floors, LOL. So, this one is downstairs and its quite a lovely room for being below ground. Our waiter who was also the bartender was quite lively (I didn't get his name) and made us feel very welcome on our first evening in the city. Of course, now being in London, I had to have the fish and chips. I learned that the green stuff is NOT guacamole (I'm kidding everyone) and it was very crispy on the outside but nice and light on the inside. The food was delicious and was my first experience eating a steak & ale pie which was fantastic. Boyfriend got the fish and chips which I don't eat but I tried a bite and it was really good and the batter was perfectly crisp. For not liking fish, I would consider ordering it for myself it was that good. The three stars is for the lack of service. I'm not sure if it's customary in the UK and if we just aren't used to it but we had to go to the bar to ask for menus and to order our food and a drink while we were sitting at a table. read more

Their meat pies were the worst I've ever had. They were out of the steak and ale and fish meat pies. I had a chicken and chorizo meat pie and my husband had a lamb meat pie. My crust was burnt brown so all I could taste was the burnt taste. Half the pie was empty, it was mostly air and crust. And there was no chorizo, only a handful of chicken. The vegetables were bland and unseasoned. Service was terrible too. Our waiter disappeared after he took our order. We asked for water with two separate staff and never got it. If you work near Victoria station this pub is a good one for lunch at the moment as there's seating outside in the sunshine. The food is ok - there's salads, sandwiches, a huge selection of sausages and so on, and it's reasonably priced. The food took a little longer than i would have liked - we only had an hour to spare at lunchtime, and there wasn't much actual salad with the Ploughman's, but there was loads of cheese, which made up for it! You don't get too many tourists as it's round the back of the station and it makes a refreshing change from the chain sandwich shops in the area. read more

I hate here twice during my stay in London and it was mostly due to the proximity of my hotel, but in all honesty, we all know that the Brits aren't known for their food. Coming from LA I wasn't expecting much and this was my saving grace. The fish n chips were so freaking good, and I'm not a fan of fish! Oh deary me. If you are in the area, catching a train/bus, renewing your passport (its the closest pub to the passport office) Don't do it. Dreadful! My mate and I like visiting old pubs, those with character, selling ale, have a promising frontage and possibly holding something within How wrong we were. It looks very olde worlde without, however, trek inside and it disclosed itself as a sham. If I was being kind, I'd say old meets new What was clearly, once upon a time, a lovely old local, hanging flower baskets, beams and leaded windows, etc. Has become a hash of crazy chalk boards and useless advertising boards. Over large pillars, high tables/stools mixed with badly placed benches and traditional tables, makes for a mish-mash of seating areas in a very small bar area. The other part of the bar has been given over to a 80 seat - restaurant area whose selling point was British Sausages, These were exclusively - Sausage Sandwiches, Sausage and Mash or Toad in the Hole - The sausage range.. interesting? Nah!! - Pork, leek and apple?? Beef & Horseradish, the list went on - for a total of 8 (?) special and different (horrid) types!! The restaurant area was empty/closed and when I tried to order a sausage sandwich, was told the chef had gone home. Time of request - 5:30pm. The place was filled with commuters and office workers, very loud and everyone was jostling for space in the small bar area, nobody seemed to venture into the closed/empty restaurant area? The male facilities were disgusting - very smelly, one (of two) sink was hanging off the wall and the trough was filled with stuff that should have been put in the bin. Stairs to the facilities make this a total no, no for those with mobility problems or wheelchair users. The small bar area was so packed and unmoving that wheelchairs users would find it difficult at peak times. Also the bar was nearly chest high. The only highlight of our experience in the St Georges Tavern was that my mate noted one of their boards advertising Hobgoblin Ale - and that all the barmaids appeared to be under 4' 5.... Food was great, and service was lovely. I appreciated that they have a diverse selection of tradition English pub food as well as much lighter options. I had been traveling all day and full of airplane food so I opted for the open face avocado, roasted red pepper, olive, and goat cheese sandwich. Satisfying and delicious. Only critique is that the dressing in their salad was pretty much just oil. Great selection of local and imported beers and ciders. Their Wi-Fi is a public sort of thing where you have to input your actual phone, number, get texted, and enter a code to activate and agree to be contacted for offers. After visiting Buckingham Palace, I approached one of the Metropolitan Police on duty there asking if he knew of any good places for fish and chips. I've always found that local police usually know good restaurants in their bailiwick, and as such he recommended St. Georges Tavern. We were cordially greeted by our server, Marcin, a most charming gentleman from Poland. He brought out samples of 6 different lagers and ales for us to try and explained about each one. I had the Meantime London IPA, which was quite good. We then had the Nicholson's Sharer, a type of pu-pu platter with sausage, onion rings, mac n' cheese, nachos and salsa, and chicken kabobs. All were delicious. We all then had the fish n'chips to satisfy our English version of "when in Rome..." We were hungry, and decided to "supersize" the portion. Trust me, it's not necessary. We received ginormous amounts of delicious cod. I was surprised to learn that this tavern is owned by a chain (Nicholson's) because it seemed like an indie owned pub to me, to judge by the atmosphere and the effort of our server. Not quite a 5 star due to a little slowness on the food coming out, I would nevertheless return and would recommend it. Last but not least, I saw the Yelp decal on the entrance window and mentioned to Marcin that I was a Yelper from the States....I received an approximately 30% discount!!! read more
