A friend of mine referred me to a few salons in Downtown SLO and I called all of them. Twig & Arrow is the only one who answered my call and offered the last minute request for an appointment for a haircut same day in the late afternoon . I arrived almost 40 minutes before my set appointment and I'm glad I did - they were so kind and accommodating! The most relaxed I have actually ever been at a salon. I hate getting my hair cut because I feel like they always cut it too short and I was pleasantly surprised they did an amazing job. Don't get me wrong, I was still freaking out internally the whole time - but I hoped for the best and received the most stellar results. WORST SALON EXPERIENCE IVE EVER HAD. I spent almost $3000 on getting extensions, which were suppose to last me a entire year, they fell out with in 10 days. I made multiple attempts to resolve the issue and got NO call from the owner Amanda Miller. After numerous attempts from myself and boyfriend to get in touch w/the owners i heard from the Husband a whole month later. Skylar is a very sweet girl but never should have been doing curly hair extensions. I wasnt aware who Amanda was until these issues came up. She was literally doing someone elses hair next to me and never once checked on skylars progress while doing my hair. She certainly isnt hands on with her students and definitely not her clients. I had to pay another salon to take out half the hair and then finally had them completely removed before month 2. My hair was a solid color and she bleached pieces of my hair, never toned them and never blended the extentions with my natural hair. It was the worst experience in my entire life and turned out to be a horror story. I was offered half my money back after 1 month of calling and going down there to get this resolved. PLEASE DO RESEARCH AND DONT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID. EVERY SALON IVE BEEN TO SINCE CANT BELIEVE THE COST THEY CHARGE AND WAS SHOCKED WHEN SHOWED THE PICTURES. I hadn't been to a salon in literally YEARS, so I enjoyed my time there and the gal who did my hair was very sweet and personable and I liked her very much. It wasn't until I washed my hair a couple days later that I saw the damage. My hair is so fried! It's breaking off underneath to about an inch or two from my scalp! I have long hair and went in for low lights and layers. She wanted to do the "highlights" first, she made me almost all blonde after I told her and showed her pictures of what I wanted. She left the foils in for so long and then applied heat. She barely trimmed my hair, no layers that I could tell. She used so much product I couldn't tell until I had to wash and style it at home. To make matters ten times worse.,,I was getting emails and texts galore wanting me to reschedule for my next touch up. Finally, after a couple of months I responded and explained why I wouldn't be rescheduling. No response, nothing. I read the reviews at this point...it's all true, the complaints. Over priced, over processed and terrible customer service once they know you aren't happy. I wouldn't recommend this shop to an enemy more or less a friend. read more

Really disrespectful salon. I made my appointment to get my hair cut for an event at 2:30. They tried to push me back till 3pm and then 3:30 and then 4:30. I had to be ready for the event by 5pm so that was not going to work. I asked if anyone else could start me and I was told no. Booked hair/make-up for an event 6 weeks in advanced. 5 days before the event I get a text message saying my stylist is out of town and if I can rebook for another weekend. Ummm ....sure....let me just ask the bride to reschedule their wedding! I get they were just being polite, but asking that question when it's very obvious hair/makeup is booked for a specific event, I would recommend finding new wording for that cancelation text. When I asked if someone else could see me instead they never responded. I called multiple times and no one answered. When I texted back the next day asking to make sure my appointment is canceled so I am not charged, they still never responded! Thankfully I found someone at another salon and she was well aware of this salon and said they care more about booking appointments then they do about making sure clients are properly serviced and it showed! I was getting married and it was a small elopement of 6 people, but I wanted to look nice so I booked an appointment for hair and makeup. I really don't feel like it was money well spent. I have very fine hair and I requested for volume and my hair to be styled off my shoulder in a low bun. I really wanted it styled nicely and the result was no volume on top, it looked like I just pulled my hair back in a low pony tail and then made a mess of it. The "wisps" of hair at the side were not attractive and my makeup made me look really old. Anyways ... I walked out of the salon feeling very ugly and deflated. I made several adjustments to my hair and makeup and at least looked a little better. I left a 20% tip because I don't want to be a jerk, but it was not money well spent. I should have done my own hair and kept the money in my pocket. I am sure the stylist was very good at her job, but wasn't really happy about doing my hair and makeup. I would highly advise anyone interested in going to a reputable salon run by courteous, competent professionals to go elsewhere. This is NOT the place for customers looking for high standards and attention to details. I made an appointment here through the website due to the fact that no one was answering the phone and the voicemail was full. I made an appointment with Natalie for full lash extensions for June 4, 2020 at 10, and was forced to input a credit card for my appointment. All of this was done by selecting from the available options on Twig and Arrow's website. I received a confirmation email for my appointment (see photo). I arrived for my appointment after paying to take my 2 dogs to daycare, paid to park, and signed in. I was not offered anything while waiting, but rather was asked to check myself in on an iPad and sent back outside to wait in 80 degree weather, despite the fact that there were only 2 of us in the waiting area, both wearing masks, who could have sat 6 feet apart in the waiting area. After sweating for 10 minutes in the sun, the employee came out to ask me who I was there to see. I said "Natalie for lash extensions." She told me that Natalie doesn't work there anymore, hadn't I talked to her lately? Mind you, I don't know Natalie and had never received services from her. Natalie is in THEIR website as the person who offers this service. When I showed my confirmation email, she then said, "and estheticians can't work until Phase 3!" She was still trying to make it my fault that I was there for an appointment Twig and Arrow is allowing patrons to book on their website! I'm not aware of what phase estheticians are in as opposed to hair stylists, nor should I have to be. Your salon is allowing patrons to book these services! Save yourself the rudeness AND the hassle. There are plenty of other places to go in San Luis Obispo run by people who are not both rude AND inept - the worst combination. read more

This salon is truly stunning! They excel in taking care of their clients. The stylists are incredibly welcoming and friendly. My favorite time there is getting my hair washed because the setup is so relaxing. Never in my life have I had such a comfortable experience on that part of going to a salon, It has always been so uncomfortable for me resting my head while I got it washed. But not at Twig and Arrow, FINALLY, someone got that part right! The owner is exceptional, running a successful business with her team. This was an unpleasant experience. I left the salon with a great cut and unexpected "balayage" color. My stylist was unpleasant and not friendly. I was making a MAJOR hair transformation. Red flag the "consult" was very brief and she insisted not to look at multiple pictures. The pic I did show her, I do not resemble. It was obvious she prefers to be silent and made a few sarcastic comments that made me feel awkward. She rushed me out, didn't say thank you, and didn't know my name after 4 hours in her chair. The blond color turned out EH. The stylist did not take the time to understand what I was looking for and didn't mix enough product (twice) which affected the color and created uneven tones. The highlights are not the same tone/color throughout. There's too much blonde that starts too high up. Not a smooth or natural-looking transition from my natural brown before to color. Harsh bronzey orange color that starts right at the top of my forehead. I won't be back and wish my stylist had a better attitude because it really put a damper on my entire experience. the first time i visited , i had the best balayage by a stylist no longer with them. after 3 years of growing out my natural hair, i chose to book with Amanda for "lived in color" - recommended for ppl favoring balayages. i opted to show her a photo from when i previously had my hair done, which was a carmel/BLONDE & WARM tone.. she took about a 10 second glance and decided that was enought inspo to start. clearly it WASNT because once the service was done, i was left with my hair DARK & ASHY. also my hair UNSTYLED & i had HAIR DYE on my CLOTHES.. im non confrontational so of course i sucked it up and smiled out the door but i could not stop myself from crying once i got home. it was so disappointing... not only was it poor service, i was also wayyy upcharged.. i set this appointment prepared to pay extra for my long hair and was understandably charged for 3 EXTRA bowls of bleach. but if im paying for extra bowls of bleach, why was i left so dark???? was also offered a TRIM but was not informed it was going to be an EXTRA $60 for about 2 inches of hair.. i feel extremely taken advantage of, because when i booked this service the original estimate was $265. so imagine my surprise when my total was 400 DOLLARS. mind you, the first time i booked with them i was WAYYYY BLONDER with ONE session and was charged ALOT LESS. after about a week i called the salon & was basically told i got what i paid for. after a little push back, the receptionist took my name, ph # , and said she'd have Amanda call me back. it's almost 2 weeks later and i am still yet to receive a call. it's very unfortunate i'm having to go spend more money with another stylist to fix this hair. in the photo with the orange top (first service with them), my hair was obviously alot more colored & light. the second photo is after my recent visit outside of their salon. clearly unstyled as well. also pictured is the hair dye left on my pants. it was also on my shirt. read more

I booked a haircut on a whim because I was in dire need of a clean up. Nina worked wonders on my wavy, overgrown, and thick hair! She took her time chatting with me prior to the haircut to make sure she knew what I wanted and provided some expert tips regarding layering, length, and texture. I went to Twig and Arrow for 2 services on my wedding day 7/20. 1) bridal hair 2) makeup for my bridesmaid. When I got to the salon, I was told that Kyah would be there soon to do my wedding hair. I didn't think much of it because it was only 2 minutes into the appointment. After waiting for 45 minutes with no stylist available to do my wedding hair I was considering cancelling altogether. Missy, who was doing my bridesmaid's makeup, said that I could "possibly" get a refund. For a service I had not received yet! Missy ended up doing my hair after she was done with my bridesmaid's makeup, so we ended up being at the salon twice as long as planned. When I finally did get my hair done, the pony tail wrap around did not hold by the time of the ceremony and I ended up redoing my entire hairstyle. I will say that Missy was very nice and tried to resolve the situation with the no show stylist as best as she could. Nevertheless, I would definitely not recommend Twig and Arrow for bridal services if you are planning on going to the salon the day of. read more

To say Missy saved my hair is an understatement! I went into twig and arrow with some of the worst highlights I've ever seen and missy worked some serious magic with color correction. She's took the time to meticulously highlight and lowlight every hair on my head (I have a ton of hair) and was kind and professional throughout the entire (4.5 hour) appointment. I Highly recommend seeing her or anyone on the twig and arrow team! Also shoutout to Skylar. I had high hopes for the salon. I was pleased they could fit me in at short notice. But my stylist was doing two appointments at one time. Which I thought was strange. Not to mention the services are so overpriced it's insane. Absolutely ridiculous their prices. Everyone seemed confused and discombobulated when they were working. I won't be going back. This is the vibe with a lot of the salons in San Luis Obispo. Everyone has attitude problems. Everyone has ego issues and is stuck up. No one is friendly. I won't be going back and I don't recommend it. And the whole process felt very very rushed. She was blow drying my hair and wanted to start curling it while it was still semi wet. I don't know what planet you live on where you can curl wet hair and it stays curled. The whole thing was so strange. The majority of San Luis Obispo salons and their stylist have attitude problems, they gossip, give side eye glares, they think they are some celebrity. When I'm paying $200 dollars they should be treating their clients like a princess. But that's never ever the case. And half the time the stylist do horrible work anyway.
