Every time me or my daughter gets our hair done at Salon 62 it's been a great experience. Everyone in the entire shop is so friendly and welcoming. Ava was my stylist yesterday. I was hesitant about getting my long hair cut into a bob (I had been going back and forth with the idea of cutting it shorter for weeks before my appointment), but she convinced me it would look so cute and she was right! Very impressed! I came in for some (sadly discontinued ) Aveda eyeshadow, and all the staff members were so so helpful!! First interaction was exchanging texts to ask about availability, and they volunteered so much information... including that all their Aveda makeup is 50% off right now what a steal! And at the shop, the front desk attendant went WAY out of her way to help me sift through their inventory, discuss options and make recommendations. I ended up walking out of there with almost $70 worth of eyeshadow (money very well spent. I'm so sorry to see the Aveda makeup go... had to stock up for my future), and an appointment for a haircut to boot. Thanks gals! Update: And what do you know. Very cool but for 55 dollars i wanted a good blow out and would have been happy with fair. She was darling, very personable but I disagree that she is good with a blow dryer. I've been here probably 4 times for a hair cut, sometimes a color. I have curly hair, and it is HARD to find someone with the skill to do it right. This salon does a type of cut called a "Deva-cut". It is a technique in which the curly hair is cut dry do that you can see how the curls will lay. This is AWESOME. They also sell a line of products called Devacurl products. They show you which products would work for the look you want, and they show you how to use them. They also did bayalage color on my hair today. I love the results. Every time I come here, I have a great experience. My hair is long, so my cut and color were on the pricier side, but I don't feel it is out of line for other reputable salons. Speaking of the salon, it is so cute. When I come in, they offer me water or tea while I wait. They are located on Garden Street in a fun location. There is a coffee shop next door, smells good. Parking. Ugh. It's SLO, so you need to go early to locate a spot. I got lucky and found a spot close to the salon, but my problem was that the meter had a 2 hour limit. The receptionist was kind enough to run out to my car and feed my meter because I was covered in a drape and hair dye. Overall, great way to get beautified. read more

It has become difficult for me to manage because I've always had mostly straight hair or hair that straightened easily and with a good blowout, have worn mostly straight cuts my whole life. I just got home from getting my hair cut and "styled" this morning. Let me start off by saying that the overall experience was normal. Brianna, my stylist, was very polite, kind and gave me a lot of information. She answered a lot of my questions and provided good suggestions. However, the final result was less than acceptable in my opinion. This is the first time I go to a salon and expect my hair to be left natural and look good. I usually get it heat styled (flat iron or curl iron). I was extremely nervous about it and had hopes of at least walking out descent. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I don't know of any curly girl who would be happy paying a professional to leave their curls frizzy and undefined. I can do that myself for free. My hair looks like it has no product in it, and feels like soft hay! I will have to wash and style my hair again in order to make it look descent. Thank goodness I was just going straight home after this! Sadly, no one at the salon asked my opinion or even hinted at their being something wrong with my "complete look."Needless to say, I am not a happy customer and I will not be referring anyone to this salon. read more

I have a lot of thick and curly hair and I just feel that they are not able to manage hair like mine. i wanted a lot of layers and I got a total mullet! absolutely no blending and huge separation between my top layers and lower layers . Haley did my hair, she was very sweet and friendly. When people hear wedding, they tend to go over the top but I wanted to keep it very simple and she did exactly that. I found enough courage to call and set up an appointment with Emy. My first time was in February and it was really amazing. Haley was wonderful to work with, she was a joy to talk with and hyped up my curls a lot the difference between this cut and others I've had in my life was night and day. Having my hair trimmed while dry made so much more sense to me so the curl pattern is easier to predict and the layers were so much better blended than other cuts I've had. Other stylists always asked if they could flat iron or blow out my hair after they cut it, but Haley styled in a way that enhanced my curls. I HAVE GREAT THINGS TO SAY PEOPLE. So per usual, I on a whim, decided to cut my hair today, and I was looking through yelp and remembered I had wanted to come to this salon. They specialize in curly hair and I was interested- having wavy hair myself. So, I scheduled a same day appointment and was so delighted with the service, smell of the shop, skill, and entire ambiance of the place. I received a curly cut and my hairdresser (whose name I am totally blanking on right now) informed me on the proper way to wash and style my hair with products that are pretty affordable in comparison to other salons. Curly girls, rejoice!! I had the best haircut of my life here about a week ago. I have curly hair and have always struggled to find a salon that knows how to handle my curls. Kim, the owner, gave me the exact cut I wanted and I left with my hair looking amazing! Framed my face beautifully, restored my long layers, and walked me through how to use Deva Curl products, but no pressure to buy them when I got to check-out. This has been my go-to hair salon for a couple of years now, and I am very happy about it. (I don't even live in the area anymore, and I still wait till I am back in SLO for hair appointments.) The location of Salon62, being downtown, and right next to a couple of coffee shops and a juice shop, is great. Although, you don't really even need to bring your own beverage. They have this amazing peach tea you can have hot or cold. There are lots of high-quality hair and beauty products available for sale, as well as a unique variety of beautiful jewelry up front. The hair salon is also always adorably decorated. I get my hair done by Emy Authier at Salon62 because she is an excellent hair dresser and lovely human. Scalp massage, hair wash, coloring, trimming, styling -- it is a good day when you get to have your hair done by Emy. She is especially good at communicating what you want done if it is different from what you may do regularly. She will thoroughly answer any questions you have, and help you problem-solve along the way. Highly recommend, especially Emy, for all your hair needs. I had my curly mop cut by Heather in December 2018. This is the first time I have EVER gone out of my way to review the salon that just did my hair, but I just needed to reach out and let you all know that I am absolutely obsessed with it. I have finally found my hair home! My sister works as a server where she met Kim, and learned about Kim's salon and her curly hair specialty.
