Two kids meals, the Pioneer pizza, the Hercules pizza, and a sub sandwich (the Italian Stallion)which was more like an Italian feast than a sandwich. Started with a garlic artichoke dip with bread. Everything was delicious, delivered quickly, and consumed the same way. Leftovers were three pieces of pizza, and a half sandwich which were taken home. The kids meals were enjoyed by a 10 and 7 year old. The 10 year old was thrilled to be able to get plain buttered noodles and a Caesar salad, but also sampled pizza and the appetizer, as did the 7 year old who had spaghetti and meatballs. Super cute place with a wide array of options. We were a part of a larger group, and they accommodated us very well with little notice. The one thing I will say, is I ordered a margarita pizza, and it came with entire cloves of garlic tucked into the cheese. The food is worse than mid and the servers act like they cooked the food themselves when you complain. I've visited this place twice, a second time only because I felt like it deserved an another chance. I wish I didn't go back because it only made my previous judgement worse. Unfortunately this has to be one of "those" reviews. I had a late dinner at the Starving Rooster with my husband, it was an hour before closing. The vibe was chill and the decor is very modern, almost made me forget I was in Minot. We both ordered the blueberry lemon Moscow mule and I highly recommend it. The drinks were mixed perfectly and you can still taste the alcohol. Our appetizer was the bruschetta and I was disappointed. The bruschetta was very dry and hard to bite into, the topping was only tomato and onion with a bit of basil. The balsamic vinegar was not completely drizzled on the bruschetta. I ordered the prime rib stroganoff and a ranch house salad. Salad was fresh but the croutons were not. The stroganoff was good but it was burnt on the sides and the cheese on top. My husband ordered a chicken sandwich with chips. The chips was stale but he did like the sandwich. I understand it was the last hour and assuming that had a lot to do with it. Very nice little restaurant downtown MINOT. It's very industrial and very well decorated and clean. We went there with our kiddos and they have a good menu it was very hard to decide which meals to get. I had their pulled pork sandwich and it was delicious. My husband has the brick fire pizza and it was delicious. I really don't think you could go wrong with anything on their menu. The service was great no complaints at all. I have been staying in Minot for the week and have been trying out different local places. The Starving Rooster was the last place on my list to try for this week, and I visited last night. I was greeted right away and sat at the bar. The bartender was friendly, and offered some tasters from their great selection of taps. They had a good mix of local and domestic beers on tap, as well as other drinks available. I enjoyed the Eh-typical lager from local Atypical Brewing in Minot, of which I am a big fan. The restaurant went with the industrial theme for decor, and has nice big garage doors, which I imagine they open in the nicer months and which I would enjoy in the summer! There were some groups in there, so it got a bit loud at times. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs, which came with a choice of one of three side salads. I chose the mixed greens, which had a homemade balsamic dressing on it. The salad was good, a bit heavy on the balsamic but I enjoyed it. The spaghetti and meatballs came in a dish on a large tray, with the portion being deceivingly large in my opinion, as I was full after half the dish. There were a good amount of meatballs, and they definitely didn't skimp like some places may. I liked that the spaghetti was al dente and not mushy like some restaurants. The sauce was ok, but a bit too thin as it didn't stick to the pasta too well, and it was good but didn't have tons of flavor. The dish was good, but nothing to rave about. I was happy with my choice to stop here, but next time I may try the flatbreads or pizzas. read more

The Starving Rooster has so much potential. I used to love it, but now I'm stuck at 3 stars. I love the ambiance of the restaurant. It has an industrial feel with connections to the name of the restaurant and original use of the building. (Apparently threshing machines used to be made here that were so good that nothing fell out for the roosters to eat! Hence....the starving rooster) I used to love their Caesar salads. Lately though, the dressing has been tasting too sweet, and the croutons have been subpar. I also used to like the pizza, but when I ordered some yesterday, it was actually gross. There was wayyyyyy too much cheese (seriously...it was like biting into a a block of poor-quality half-melted cheese with a thin layer of bread on the bottom), and there weren't nearly enough toppings. Basically when you order a pizza, you're ordering a 'cheese'. Or what they try to pass as cheese! haha. Another disappointment is that they used to have incredible desserts, but they got rid of them! They had a peanut butter trifle, a chocolate mousse, and a key lime pie trifle. Now they have a creme brûlée, which isn't as good as it could be. Dang it! They also got rid of our two favorite appetizers -- the caprese salad and the Thai chicken wings with cucumber sauce. I will say that my husband and brother in law loved their panini when we came here last time. Also, the chips are pretty darn good! The last two times we came here, service has been poor. Our waitress (the same both times) wasn't wearing a name tag so I don't know her name, but she wasn't pleasant. She didn't smile once, and she spoke in as few words as possible. Starving Rooster used to be a 4 or 5 star restaurant, but lately it hasn't been meeting my expectations. If they hire better waiters/waitresses, spice up their menu, and fix their pizza, they could be great again. I'm looking forward to that day! read more

The restaurant was crowded but there were still a few seats available. We were immediately seated. The decor of restaurant was rustic and industrial. Seating was a mix of booths and tables with wood seating. The vibe was relaxed, fun, and social. Karaoke started sometime around 9:30pm. The menu had a great selection of sandwiches, salads, pizzas, paninis, soups, and appetizers. We ordered the Roasted Portabella Sandwich (2 of them) and the Bacon Mac and Cheese. Everything came out relatively quickly and tasted good. Plating was decent. The service was friendly, helpful, and attentive. This place looks happening, however it was dead AF when we went there. It has potential to be rocking, but that Ebenezer place was mucho mas better than the rooster. Pizza was great, beers were sort of cold. The only thing colder than the beers were the bartenders. The locals had better experience with them than we did. Plus the bar had way too many chairs. On a Thursday night there were 10 people in the entire restaurant but over 1,000 chairs just in the bar area. You got to do like a double dare physical challenge though the sea of chair chaos just to reach the bar for cool beers and antisocial bartenders. Don't get me started on the cheese because the 5 different cheeses that were riding this bad boy whooped my taste buds! The mojito oh my goodness! If a contemporary bar had a baby with a sanitary steel mill, it would produce the Starving Rooster. This is not a review focusing on the food, tons of those already exist. This review focuses on what they don't tell you about, its interior and ambiance; however, don't think this will be an unfavorable review (notice the stars). Walking into the the restaurant one will immediately notice the limited size, which directly contributes to its available seating. To the left is the bar with about four long high-tops, to the right booth seating, and towards the back an elevated platform with a few tables and chairs pressed against the kitchen and cashier stand. Additionally, directly next to the bathrooms are two ostracized booths...the jury is still out on whether I'd ever want to sit there or not. [Side note: speaking of the bathrooms, they are very clean]. Due to the interior of the restaurant (remember the steel mill analogy), the entire establishment is a cacophony of sounds. No adsorbing material exist inside the restaurant; therefore, you hear every discussion, baby cry, and utensil clack and ding that occurs. Overall, the place is loud, but what transforms this potentially cold, lifeless steel mill into a restaurant is the food and friendly waitstaff. Yes, the food is good, and yes, I will return, and yes, I think I would like to sit next to the bathrooms in the secluded booths. However, I would not bring someone to this restaurant if my main goal was to get to know them or have discussions of a serious nature. Nevertheless, for any other reason, I would definitely go and enjoy the unique atmosphere and genuine hospitality. read more
