My fellow 80s babies/90s kids (1984, what what!) all remember a special game from our childhood: MASH. MASH was a pen/paper game that determined your future housing situation ("Mansion, Apartment, Shack, House" = MASH), income, spouse, pets and job. It was mostly our way of aligning our lives with the boys we had massive crushes on. I recently taught the game to an 8 year old little fella and he was enamored and obsessed (and is marrying Taylor Swift!). In one of these games, my future claim to fame was living in a mansion here in LA with millions of dollars in my pocket and owning a crystal/gem shop! First of all, I am two months of 41 so this better happen soon and second: as someone who is OBSESSED with healing gems/stones/crystals... this sounds like a dream come true! Alas, the gem store of my wildest desires already exists in the form of The Stone Femme Studio in Montrose and let me tell you: I am in love! Stroll down the main shopping and dining strip in Montrose on Honolulu Ave and you will find The Stone Femme Studio nestled in the back of a nook passing under some stairs (near The Elbow Room Bar). This heaven on earth can be hard to miss due to its location but luckily I saw a sandwich board on the sidewalk announcing the shop and it was meant to be as it was minutes before The Stone Femme Studio was due to close for the day at 6pm (open Thursday - Sunday only). Enter the door of The Stone Femme Studio and your jaw will drop at the massive collection of rocks, gems, crystals, minerals, fossils, curiosities, healing stones, prisms, jewelry and so on and so forth. From shelves of color coded stones to bins of raw minerals to glass cases... every surface seems to be covered with stones and yet organized in a way that even my OCD was smiling. I have been to stone/metaphysical stores in multiple states and The Stone Femme Studio is now officially my absolute favorite by far. You will find anything you need here whether seeking actual energy healing or merely into accenting your decorating esthetic with a boho vibe. The Stone Femme Studio is clearly curated by the best of the best suppliers because the quality is AMAZING! Prices are also reasonable and even more so in comparison to the crème de la crème quality. The Stone Femme Studio won't empty your wallet needlessly (except for the fact that you will surely buy a large haul!) and there are various deals available for mere pennies on the dollar. I scored Orange Calcite, Flower Aquate, Rhondonite, Oco Geode, Green Strawberry Quartz and Mica for $36.36 (plus tax)! What a bargain! Unsure what to purchase for your healing needs? Don't even stress because The Stone Femme Studio has descriptions of the stones and their healing properties on the displays. Also notable is the customer service of Janelle, the owner of The Stone Femme Studio. Janelle is quirky, charming and well educated on her stones. We ventured in literally on the dot of closing time so she was forced to say after and did not show any sass or annoyance and rather was very engaging in conversation, answered all questions and was patient with healing stone search. Most often, employees at similar stores are quite uppity and act like they are on spiritual levels you can't even attempt to access but not Janelle! I can't even give The Stone Femme Studio its proper due in a review; it is simply that fantastic! The Stone Femme Studio is a must-see (must-shop?) for anyone and everyone into healing stones and crystals and I am already DYING to return and take home another handful of stones. This shop is hidden by an art gallery and a old town building. Next to "Elbow room". Once you find it you'll see this cozy space is OVERFLOWING with Rocks, maps, books, candles, artesian jewelry, mounted specimens, wall art.. I mean She has everything. None of it is catalog, all very unique finds at extremely reasonable prices. The file drawers pull way way out to reveal loads of unique gems and minerals. All are cataloged with names or where they were sourced. It is so colorful, so educational, I mean you need to go here. If you have questions, the Owner, DJ is extremely knowledgeable. I was walking around downtown Montrose and stumbled into a cute, small, but full of rustic charm shopping center. I continued to explore it till I found the Rock Shop, a tiny store tucked away in the back. They do a good job advertising it, so you'll notice it, there are cute signs outside to lure you in. As you might guess, the store sells rocks, cool gems with nice stories behind gathered from all around California. They sell stone carved jewelry, very nice and other cool decor items that would make a nice gift. This is the kind of store that makes you feel like a kid again, exploring and having fun. Look, this is a very beautiful little rock shop in a quaint nook in Montrose. It is well stocked and organized and fairly priced. The proprietors clearly know their rocks and gems. Fair warning, there is a tiny piece of paper hidden behind some hanging wares on the door asking not to photograph, and they take this very seriously. We did not see this and were immediately treated like criminals. There are plenty of ways to approach store policy that don't begin with accusations of malicious intent. It's really too bad, because we were excited to drop some cash at a local business and recommend it to others, but we were so taken aback by the abrupt hostility we will not be doing either. It's hard out there for independent businesses, but antagonizing your customers is not going to help anything. Print up a bigger sign if it's really a problem. 5/5 selection, 1/5 service read more

Most of the stones are pricey, but I bought a few things. Its one tiny room jam packed with stones. Not open very often.. not open til Thursday through Sunday. A bit hard to find in Montrose, but I found it. The owners, a couple are nice, the phrase "stone femme" didn't escape me and made me laugh. One has a very stable energy that is nice, and the other ones a bit anxious I noticed, and tends to overemphasize and expound on what bothers her, but they are nice as a couple. I wish they had stones on sale.. I mean an obvious area of discounted stones. I also enjoy taking my time to shop, but its rare that I shop with someone watching me the entire time.. a little off-putting and I wish that wouldn't happen, but I can and will invest money into this place, as I do with all places that sell stones. They have a mind boggling variety. 4 stars, 5 if they stopped watching me. LOL. read more

I was only planning to stay 20 minutes in the shop but ended up staing for over 1 1/2 hr. This shop has some gorgeous crystals, minerals and rocks and Janelle is a great person to talk to about them. She handpicks all her inventory, which I love. While I was at the shop I met some great people that also love crystals and shared some knowledgeable information. I'm not in this area often, but whenever I'm driving through (usually on the way to Pasadena), I love stopping by here if it's one of the times they're open. Their hours are very particular, as it's usually the same couple of employees running the shop, but it's probably in my top 3 stores for gemstones and minerals in LA County. The shop is tucked away in the back of a cute wooden shopping center, but they cram a lot into their space, and the shelves are merely the surface. Collection enthusiasts can spend quite a bit of time thumbing through the drawers and spinning each cabinet, where some of the rarer finds lie (found this gorgeous prehnite during a recent visit). The women who run the shop are very friendly and knowledgable, and are happy to help you out whether you're shopping for spiritual purposes or for your collection. Prices are pretty reasonable. read more

This place is absolutely magical, and not because of the energy I received from the crystals and stones, but primarily because of those who sell them. I don't even know how to Express my gratitude. I was in desperate need for the hematite and I had been searching online for one that wasn't man mad or magnetic so I came across this store. Something drew me to this particular place and now I understand why. Not only did they open for me even after they were closed but it was the positive influence that I felt from being there. I've been having more than a few bad days and naturally I started to express my feelings. Not only did they offer me tangible resources and advice but they also spoke to me in a way that was empathetic and sympathetic. Although I was there to buy one thing, I spent my time just talking casually. When I drove home, everything I had been feeling just felt like a release. My anxiety had let up and I was okay. I went in with my son looking for some rocks and crystals to help with his monster anxiety. He's been waking in the night afraid that they were going to attack him. I looked online and found black tourmaline. We went in and Janelle helped us find just what we needed. We left with a gorgeous black tourmaline, a hematite that my son was drawn to and a lepidolite. Janelle was so lovely to my son. She listened to his monster description and even gave him a mantra to say. They have a treasure box for kids to pick from. He picked 2 seashells that make his face light up. We left and he is so excited to sleep with them tonight! This is a neighborhood gem! read more

My mom, sister and I were in the area and decided to stop at this shop. As we were walking in, one of the workers said they were full as it was a small space and if we can wait outside (my mom also has a walker). We completely understood and waited in front for a cue to go in. One gentleman in the store wasn't purchasing anything so he stepped out so one of us can go in. I went in while my mom and sister waited for two people to leave so they can go inside. Not only did the employees ignore me (no hello, no welcome or any acknowledgment) two customers walked in after me and they did not tell them to wait outside because of the capacity. This completely rubbed us the wrong way so we left. We were never welcomed in, despite them letting other customers in before us. Really sad and unfortunate experience. read more

I was so excited when I discovered this amazing crystal shop! Whenever I visit this store, it becomes an educational experience. The more time I spend in there the more I learn about rocks and minerals! I was so happy when found a reasonably priced, gorgeous Danburite crystal to add to my collection. The owners are so incredibly nice and knowledgeable about the rocks they carry and also mine many of the specimens. As a collector of rocks and minerals, it's like being a kid in a candy store! There are some crystals I have never even heard of or even seen before. Many of the large specimens they carry are incredibly unique and stunning and so are many of the jewelry pieces!
