If you are in need of the green ganja while in Ketchikan, The Stoney Moose is the place you must go. Super cute and the name is all sorts of adorable. Walking in, we weren't greeted and overall didn't find the staff too friendly. I was so disappointed in that as I'm used to dispensary people being super friendly and chill. I'm from Cali so to me the prices seemed crazy high! However, that's no knock against the store itself. Alaska be taxing their people high on marijuana and listen, that's just part of the way things go with legalizing weed. We want it, they know it, we must pay the prices. My friend and I ended up getting a couple of edibles and a joint for consumption. It took awhile to pick what we were going to get as so many items on the menu board were actually out. We are from wasilla Alaska and in town to see what southeast Alaska is all about. I hit the weed shops in wasilla regularly and have a pretty good feeling for prices. We went to Stoney moose when cruise ships were in town and was charged more than twice the price. Went in after they were gone and purchased the same thing and the prices were pretty much normal. It's great that they are fleecing the out of towners but totally sucks for the real Alaskan who is on an instate vacation. read more

It's a trap! Well, in this case, a tourist trap. For edibles at $1 to $2 per mg it seems really expensive. Not that I have a lot of experience here but... In any case, for those not in one of the blue states (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legality_of_cannabis_by_U.S._jurisdiction) it could be a novelty to try. If you do go the edible route take care on the expectations if you are a newbie. It can take about an hour for the effects so dosing is difficult and since you might be new to Alaska coming here it could wreck the next couple of hours for you. As a side note beyond the Moose it made me appreciate the work the people at Level Blends, an unrelated company, are doing for cannabis in general. They are making products based on specifically extracted cannabinoids and thus have a very repeatable and measured effect -- be it for recreation or other purposes. Only available in CA at the moment but perhaps you might see them here soon depending on the winds of the federal laws. The real reason for this comment is if you do end up having a bad experience it might be more related to an uncontrolled full spectrum product rather than something referred to generically as "pot". read more
