I was helped by Karissa (I think thats her name she has red hair!) and she did an amazing job! She was thorough and super friendly. My curls turned out amazing and lasted most of the night!

I asked the stylist to match my roots to my natural hair color and she decided on a color match without showing me and what I got was a strange blonde brown color (see photo) that clearly is not a color match and is so wrong that I'm going to have to pay to have someone else fix it. I also came in for a haircut and the first thing I said was that I wear it in a ponytail every day so it needed to be long enough for that. What I got was a super short top layer, middle layer and long layer that if I wear my hair curly looks like a Christmas tree. I did not notice when I left because i asked her to blowdry it straight even though I told her I typically wear it curly every day & it looked semi okay straight, but still not what I'd asked for. I also paid $70 + tip for each service- which is more than what I was quoted when I called. I won't be back. read more

Having been here once, I saw many reasons to avoid this place, most exceptionally the manager crazily flying over to yell "we don't take walk ins, " after her staff was apologizing for the incompetence of booking an appointment in the wrong month. read more

I got a haircut here by Regina a while back and I absolutely was happy with it! She was great, professional and not too chatty. For some reason hair stylist feel like they need to be making conversation, but I'm happy with just relaxing. A few months later, I got my hair colored by Chelsea... she was amazing! She gave me exactly what I wanted. She took her time and looked like she loved what she was doing. Please, please go see Chelsea, she's an absolute artist. read more

Maybe I'm spoiled but I wasn't prepared for a quick 15 min haircut and sent out the door without wash/ styling. I could have gone to ProCuts for this service. I was asked at the end if I wanted wash and style. That made me feel like I was bothering her and it was an after thought. Stylists are super nice and the salon definitely caters to women "of a certain age". I don't know if my hair looks good or not, because it wasn't styled before I left. read more

From the time you walk in you feel the hair therapy commence! Susan greets you so warmly and always makes you feel welcome. I usually come after work and my hairstylist always treats me like family. Clarisa is my girl, she does amazing work. Even my husband compliments her work when I come home and you know they never notice. I have to come often to cover the gray but it is always worth it! Chelse rocks! I was lucky to find her at a salon near my house. When she moved to The Strand Salon and Spa, I tried finding someone else close to my house, but couldn't find anyone as good and nice. I was recently filmed for a work project in NY and the make-up artist who works with many different television shows commented on the great cut Chelse did. I took my 12 old niece to Chelse a month back. After her cut, which looked incredible, my niece said, "I always want to get my hair cut by Chelse." I agree! read more

The Strand is the best... I was referred to Jessica a little over a year ago and couldn't be happier. I take my two boys (14 and 10 yo) to The Strand as well. I thought my 14 yo son he would never cut his hair after a girl told him it looked good long... I was ready to secretly cut it myself while he slept but Jessica worked her magic and got him to a shorter look he absolutely loves... as do I. She's a miracle worker! Now both my boys won't let anyone else touch their hair! The staff are absolutely a pleasure to be around and make customers feel very welcomed. I know all of their stylists do fantastic work. Laurie Kaufman (Esthetician who owns Laurie's Skin Care inside the salon) is FABULOUS!!! I found her years ago and won't let anyone else touch my skin. She is AMAZING and has helped my skin look so much younger and healthier. I get so many compliments on my skin and it's because of her. Laurie's prices are very reasonable and she offers many different facials that are tailored for your skin. read more

I followed Jessica from her days at Jeannette's. I've been a happy customer for at least 10 years. Starting with a friendly welcome by Susan at the front desk, you will be pleased with your service from the well qualified stylists at The Strand. Jessica is so friendly, AMAZING with color and always a quality cut. I frequently get compliments on my highlights and have sent her many referrals. It's also nice that they don't push products just to increase the sale, but do have them available should you need. Try them... You'll be pleased. read more

I highly recommend the Strand Hair salon. The salon is clean and comfortable and the staff is very friendly. On my first visit I had a cut and color. The stylist spent time during the consultation making sure that she knew what I wanted. During the coloring process she frequently checked back to see how I was doing, always letting me know how much longer she thought it would be. She did a wonderful job on the cut and the color and I will be going to The Strand from now on. read more

No. Just no. I've had better haircuts at Supercuts. I said that I wanted to retain my length but wasn't opposed to a few new layers. What I got was three inches chopped from the bottom (my hair wasn't in that bad of shape) and tons of layers that were so blunt and short that it looks like my four year old cut my hair. I had been going to K Charles and wasn't unhappy, but a friend suggested The Strand and I was willing to try it because it's a lot closer to my house. But not only do you get a Master Stylist at K Charles for the same rate of $65, but K Charles is a non-tipping salon so it's a far better product for a fixed price. Also, kids aren't allowed at K Charles, whereas there were at least 6 young children just hanging out while their moms got haircuts at The Strand. As a mother of three young kids the salon is one of the few breaks from my children I get, and so I'm not interested in listening to anyone else's kids either. read more

The best highlight and extensions I've ever had! Christy was my stylist and she did exactly what I asked for and she was so sweet and kind. I've been to many salons and never have received such great service. I was greeted by Susan the receptionist who was very personable and made me feel very comfortable! The Strand Salon and Spa was established in 2009 by Sandi De Jesus and Jessica Ramirez. Sandi and Jessica have been working together for over 13 years. When Jeanette's (off of Stone Oak) closed Sandi and Jessica decided it was time to go out on there own. In the short time that Sandi and Jessica have been in business they needed to expand into bigger space in just 1 year. We currently have 9 extremly tallented hair stylist, 2 nail technicians and 1 Esthician.

I showed her my one broken nail that I told I kept trying to grow out but kept breaking and showed her my thin, scraggly nails. I told her I was trying to grow them out for months after I stopped using Dip Powders. She hooked me up and made them look pretty even if the nails weren't long. Kudos to her and thank you for not letting me feel embarrassed about the state of my toes and nails, LOL!! She'd just say "It's okay! I'll take care of you!" :-)

One thing to note at this salon is they ONLY do GEL Polish on pedicures... no regular Polish. So be prepared for that! With busy schedules, I found a day that worked for everyone and booked my appointment. I arrived about an hour early so I could enjoy the hot tub before my massage. I was also planning to take advantage of the spa amenities afterward and grab lunch at one of the restaurants. About 10 minutes before my appointment, I put on my robe and headed to the waiting area. As my appointment time came and went, I watched every other guest get called back for their massages while I continued to wait. After another 10 minutes had passed, I finally went to the front desk to ask what was going on. The manager came out and informed me that there had been a miscommunication and my massage therapist was unable to make it to work that day. Unfortunately, there were no other therapists available and no alternative appointment times. I was simply told they were sorry and that I would need to reschedule. At that point, I broke down in tears. This wasn't just a massage, it was my birthday gift and my first opportunity to step away from the chaos and demands of postpartum life. Having that experience taken away without any notice was incredibly disappointing. To their credit, they did offer me a complimentary massage whenever I am able to rebook, which I appreciated and accepted. However, this was a very disappointing first impression. A simple phone call before I arrived could have saved me the time, effort, childcare arrangements, and emotional letdown.

I love the Strand! I've been going to Sandi and Jessica for years, and followed them from Jeanette's. Here are a few reasons why the Strand is hands down the best salon in San Antonio: 1. Their location is SO convenient. I come south down 281 to get there (from Austin!), and it's easy on and off from 1604! Plus, after you get your hair done, head over to Houlihan's for happy hour :) 2. I love love love the salon! The look is very modern and stylish, but comfortable and inviting. 3. Everyone is so friendly! From Susan welcoming you when you walk in the door to every stylist saying hi, I've never had a bad interaction. 4. ALL the stylists are so talented! I think four or five different people have done my hair and color, and I always walk out loving the results. I always have people asking me where I get my hair done! 5. The Strand is a local, women-owned small business -- we should all want to support our local businesses! I have been going to Jessica at the Strand for 11 years. First couple of years she did extensions for me that looked wonderful. She has highlighted my blond hair as well all these years and it ALWAYS, looks natural, beautiful and I never have unsightly roots or unhealthy hair. When I tell her the look that I'm going for, I always get exactly what I envisioned. She is not shy to give you her professional opinion and she is always spot on. In 11 years I have been very pleased with every hair cut and color she has ever done. I'm turning gray/white now around the edges and I am about to make an appointment with her to highlight the rest of my natural hair with the same white/silver around the edges and I have complete confidence that she will know exactly what to do and it will look fabulous! The Strand is a beautiful and modern salon and spa. The owners work in the salon so they are always there making certain that all is done well. All the employees are kind, friendly and knowledgeable. The Strand has it all; hair, nails, facials, products, even refreshments. My son married two years ago and the salon took care of all the hair needs for everyone, bride, bridesmaids, mothers, flower girls and my son. I also used this salon when I had to have an actress's hair dyed. They took care of her and made sure her hair was not damaged and could go back to her natural color easily. The Strand is pricey but not out of line and you really get your monies worth. I highly recommend The Strand Salon and Spa. read more

I always get a reminder phone call for my appointments, the salon is modern, clean, stylish and comfortable. The staff is wonderfully knowledgeable in all the latest styles and trends. Love The Strand! I live in New Jersey and come to San Antonio every few months to visit family and get my hair done. I have not found anyplace near me in NJ that does my hair as good as the girls at the Strand do. Besides loving the way my hair looks I love the atmosphere. Everyone there is so nice and it's a very trendy salon/spa. I highly recommend the Strand Salon/spa! Wish I lived closer to take advantage of the spa services more!! read more
