Absolutely love this place. I was wanting to get my hair colored with highlights. I looked up a couple of places and settled on Kay's. The place is located in a small shop center off of bitters and Blanco. The place itself is nice and clean. Staff is super friendly. Upon arrival I was greeted and sat down for my appointment. This place is by appointment only so I highly suggest you calling a week in advance. I was told they are busiest on Saturday. I had the pleasure of being scheduled with Ashley. I showed her a picture of what I was thinking of. I asked how long the process would take she let me know it would be about 3-4 hours. While we were in the process of doing my hair I noticed Ashley took her time to make sure everything was done right. She gives the best shampoo rinses! I was trying my best not to fall asleep during the process. She was attentive, patient, and very understanding. She was also very knowledgeable about the whole process. Fast forward to the end. I LOVE the way my hair came out. Absolutely gorgeous!! This was my first experience doing this type of service and Ashley did not disappoint. I am beyond impressed and satisfied with the service I received. I would highly recommend this place and suggest you ask for Ashley. I am from Cali and have done my hair several times there, but I am super happy coming across this salon in San Antonio. I found Justine who specializes in Asian hair despite my hair being difficult to lift and had a lot of old permanent dye which impacted it. She was super knowledgeable about how to fix and improve my hair color and taught me how to healthily maintain it. The quality has definitely gone down, I've gone here for 5 years and left today in complete utterly shock!! The assistant did my hair, she was really sweet something I usually pay for $100 for was $170. I just got a plain all over color. Same amount of product. 3 bowls of color. I left with color all over my head, every stylist was talking to me and we all could see the same thing, I had to ask for a remover, and was just handed one couldn't even offer to help wipe it off. I've recommended sooo many clients in and out of here it just kinda felt a little rude to walk out feeling like I was taken advantage of, it was the most uncomfortable cringy feeling as they debated and talked about how much to charge me for 10 mins. Shouldn't it be a flat rate price what's there to discuss? I absolutely love Sky! When I was looking to cut my my hair I was so scared because I had very long hair. I wasn't even sure that anyone would know how to cut it how I envisioned in my own mind. However, I ran across sky's Instagram page and automatically knew that she would be the right fit for me. I was able to book an appt very quickly and I loved everything about her. She made me feel so comfortable and took her time at cutting my hair. She did the most amazing job at taking it from long to short. This is not the first time I have chopped it off so drastically and let me tell you when I did I was not happy. This time I didn't question my decision instead I was beyond happy I did it. 3 minutes ago A picture is worth a thousand words. On 5/11, I walked into the salon with my daughter. She showed the stylist the pic on the top right. Her hair going in is shown on the top left. She already had the blonde in her hair already. When I returned to the salon to pick up my daughte her facial expression said everything. We walked out and she was very upset. We didn't leave the lot and walked back into the salon to speak with the stylist. I expressed my dissatisfaction with the service. Let me add that my daughter received a haircut as well that was noticably uneven. The stylist said, "Ok. Let me fix it ...". Fine, it was passed 7:30pm when she was done. She had been there since 4:30pm. I had worked all day and had two little ones at home. Her attempt to fix my daughter's hair was awful. It looked orange/red and in some spots especially closer to her scalp it was blotchy. Her skin tone terrible clashed with the hair color. I knew I was going to need to come back to speak with a supervisor. I went in the following day 5/12 at 10am when they opened to speak with a supervisor. I was told by the stylist to come back at 7:00 pm to discuss and make it right. I showed up at 6:30pm and waited. The stylist approached noticeably perturbed and kept telling me that she'd provide a "free service" to fix it by adding highlights. I told her that I was concerned because there had been chemical added already and more may cause my daughter's hair to fallout. She and her colleague advised that her hair would not fall out, but it would sustain damage with chemical. Her colleague felt it important to join in and make certain I understood that this was a "free service." Really? I paid over $200 for a service I didn't get. He wanted me to understand that a lot of time had been invested in providing the worst hair coloring job I'd ever seen. I asked for a supervisor. I was informed "Kay'" works on Friday's and Saturday's, but if I wanted to speak with her I would need "wait around because she has her own clients." Am I not a client? It was evident at that moment that there is zero pride in the services provided and certainly no care in the world about taking care of their customers. This isn't the first time I've been at this salon, but it'll be the last time. My daughter now has white hair framing her face and a cascade of other colors noticeably on the back of her head. Her hair is still uneven and its beginning to fallout. This was a horrible experience. A waste of MY time and money. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place. Save yourself some grief and go somewhere else. Kay if you're reading this and have time in between YOUR CLIENTS give me a call it's the right thing to do. read more

Ugh... where to start. First I waited 30 minutes for my appt with Kay. I get you may run late but call and let me know. I could have run more errands... Secondly, she sprayed so much hairspray in my hair and then proceeded to use a flat iron over it sizzling my hair!! It was awful!! I have super fine hair and that is a no no... she should know better. Then she was yanking on my hair so hard and brushing it out fully when i have EXTENSIONS. It was so painful and when i told her it hurt she acted like i am tender headed (which im not). Thirdly, I showed her a photo of a low and loose updo. She started sooo high. I had her take it down and go lower. She still didn't want to do what I was waiting. Finally she got it somewhat right but at that point my hair looked like a rats nest. I went to Kay's Salon recently for the first time and Jennifer cut my hair. The salon is pretty and Jennifer was very nice. I showed her a picture of what my hair looks like when it has been cut so she would have an idea of how to cut it. Unfortunately, my hair cut turned out to be a disaster. It was cut way too short and didn't look like the picture at all. It was supposed to be tapered so that it was longer at my chin, but shorter going back. It was cut straight across and was at least an inch too short. My husband made a comment to me that my hair cut did not look good at all and suggested I find a new place. It will be a month before it's at the length it should have been cut at. read more

She accommodates so well and even can book you over her Instagram (@skylacolors) so it's super easy and saves me a phone call. She posts her work which makes her so trustworthy. So I've been going to Kay's Salon since 2018. I first met David and his team when I got my hair seriously destroyed by a salon in Helotes. The lady just kept dying it trying to fix it. Finally I said no more and sought out recommendations for a new hairdresser. My friend highly recommended David so I gave it a shot despite living an HOUR away from the salon. I'll never forget the honesty and the look on his face when he saw my hair! It was so dried out and just damaged. I love that he was super honest with me throughout the whole process. How many hairdressers will say no to redyeing your hair to get the color you want. He went over how damaged it was and how he was going to help me fix it. Instead we just cut more off and he went to work with his magic to fix the color. Not only did he fix the hot mess of hair but when I was checking out he looked at me and sighed a bit. He felt so terrible for what A DIFFERENT salon had done to my hair. He gave me some Olaplex free of change to help my hair and I about cried. Right then I knew this guy cared about his work and really wanted to help me. I've been a loyal customer ever since even with the drive, lol. Kay really messed up my hair! Ahh it happens you say...but never fun when your hair breaks due to over processing. Adding to the experience Kay blew dry my hair by leaving a few round brushes in as to cool down and set curl. Very Old School!!! Kay was to busy dealing with a broken water heater, chatting it up with her son (a co worker) with family stuff. None of which was any of my business or interests. Not to mention the continuing interruption by a receptionist in training. Kay did in admit to making a mistake .. Was hard not to! What ever happened to servicing your customer? I moved to San Antonio without knowing anyone about a year ago. When I moved here I needed a hair cut but I was hesitant to find someone I could trust as I've had unflattering haircuts in the past. I have a LOT of wavy hair with some curl. I called around town looking for someone who could get me in fairly quickly but who was also familiar with my type of hair. David Solis has been my stylist since I moved to San Antonio in 2013 and I will not have anyone else cut or color my hair. He knows what he is doing and is very honest about his opinion (i.e., he will tell you if what you want will work for you or if he can accomplish the look). Also, the atmosphere of the salon is great! Kay and Andy are always friendly and I love just sitting in the chair and chatting with everyone, while getting my hair done. On the one or two times that I have tried a new stylist (from a different Salon) to save on costs, I ultimately had to call David to fix the damage that was done and he was able to. I really wanted to like this place. But here's a tip: if you want clients to come back, don't "forget they were on the schedule" then have the receptionist do their hair instead. I get we're all human and make mistakes but I wasn't even offered a discount for such poor service. This was also the second time the receptionist did the majority of my color. Love this salon! Friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I feel heard when I explain my struggles with my hair. My stylist, Andy, is always helpful with input and a master with coloring and highlights (before we decided to go with my natural gray hair post chemo). Kay is always wonderful and attentive and the new staff member, Jin, is also very sweet and knows what she is doing. Not a good experience. Look elsewhere. I just moved back to San Antonio and was looking for a salon. I saw this salon had great reviews and wanted to check it out. I made an appointment with Roger. I wanted to get my hair colored, and wanted to do a basic medium ash brown. He started off by being very critical of the hair elastics i was using. He was also critical that my hair was in bad shape. I, like a lot of people, am very busy, am working a lot, and don't always have the time to devote to my hair. That's why I made an appointment. When he went to put the color on, he left the color on a little too long, and my hair looked super dark and the ends looked nearly black. I was looking for a medium ash brown. I was not happy. I think he could tell I wasn't very happy and he said to call in a couple of days. I called Alta Moda Salon where I'd been going before, 2-3 years back. Thankfully Sally was able to get in. I explained what I wanted and she saved the day. She corrected it. It looks great and I'm very happy with it! I had to shell out an extra 130 bucks to get it corrected. Was not happy about that. I've always jumped around to different hair salons depending on what side I town I lived on at the time but I think I have finally found my go-to hair salon in town. Kay and David truly made me feel like family. Kay is so sweet and David is so funny. So I have box-dyed dark brown hair and I went in asking for light ash blonde balayage. Unrealistic... I know lol. I wasn't expecting to walk out looking like the pictures I had shown them, but I was hoping for a cool-toned light brown end result which Kay understood. She took her time with me. I was offered water during my visit. She also knew that I was in a rush so she happily obliged when I asked her if we could skip the blow dry and style. To be completely honest, I am not happy with the end result bc the balayage looks very orange-y after I had explained to Kay that I wanted the warmth out. I'm also not pleased about the fact that I was still charged 275.00 for an end result that was nowhere near what I asked for... BUT... they are still getting a 5 star review from me bc I understand that having very dark, box-dyed hair makes it difficult to apply any light color. The salon itself is so cozy and they made me feel right at home and I have the utmost confidence that Kay will give me the results that I asked for after a couple more visits. I just know it. The customer service that I received outweighed the fact that I wasn't very happy about the end result. I look forward to my next visit. Will update my review then. read more
