Love the friendly atmosphere, and I got to meet so many creative people while practicing during the open studio hours. I do wish they had longer hours so it was more convenient for me schedule, but I understand this was mainly fitted around school-going children. They have a lot of cool workshops for kids, and the instructors are all very amazing from the art that I see the kids produce. There are so many different things they offer! They also allow adults a lot of resources and space to exercise their own creative projects, which I think is excellent. Everything is pretty reasonable, too! Not only does it feel lucky to have access to these artists, but the workshops are also surprisingly affordable. The on-campus housing is clean, private, and affordable, as well. Because workshops take place in Summertime, in an area that is typically a wintertime destination, there are plenty of good restaurants, accommodations, and extra activities to do while in the area. Grateful to have found this place. This will be my third workshop here.

It was a great time with good music and drinks. The entire class was about 2-2.5 hours depending on how long you took to add some finishing details and everything was provided from paint, canvas, cups, paintbrushes. You're allowed to bring any sort of drinks and snacks which was a lot of fun. They rotate which paintings they do and post it on the website as well and it's fun to just come and pint even if you're not going to follow the template! Many unique art spaces, photo studios and (maybe overly specific) shops all with highly varied hours leave this huge spot feeling eerily empty. You can walk around the entire space and literally there may be 5 or 6 places open out of 50. Uggh!!! They do have a wonderful gallery that showcases the best art from local school children and young adults which is surprisingly awesome. ALso Food Truck Thursday is pretty neat outside on the grounds (although we could seriously do without the county fair fried dough and cotton candy trucks). Social distancing enforced with divided picnic tables that are effectively wiped down between seated parties. Oh and craft beer- beer is good! Ultimately, what could really help would be hours 2 days a week where all shops were guaranteed to be open, say Thursday's and Saturday's 2-6pm and A SMALL MARKETING BUDGET for the building as a whole, standard signage on the OUTSIDE of the building letting potential customers what's INSIDE... Come on people, I know I'm not the only person who has drove past this place and thought, "What's up with that big building- is it open? what's inside? Common sense stuff could fix that issue. The potential is HUGE here because right now it's just a big boring building filled with interesting retail thats never open...

They now have 3 different outside areas packed with vendors selling food, creations, & services & it's incredible to see how much it's grown. There's still not a lot of signage though, especially inside, so it's extremely easy to get lost and confused inside the building, or even outside if you're looking for a certain vendor at the pop ups. I do wish that more consistent hours would be implemented here. When I went to this most recent food truck rally, I of course poked my head inside too to check out the shops and almost every single shop on the second floor was shut up, and a good majority in the basement as well. Nearly the entire first floor was open, and about 1/2 of the third floor. These businesses are missing out on a great opportunity! Why isn't it required for them to be open during these events? As a buyer it's disappointing, and as a local it's frustrating when you're trying to buy local yet the locals aren't taking advantage of such a great opportunity. Parking has become a bit of a nightmare during these events, which just goes to show how popular they've become, but on a regular day it's pretty easy to find parking here or right on the streets nearby.

I found out that the last Friday of every month being Troy Night Out, makes a great night out exploring arts and culture. The exhibits are open during the day and seem to draw me in after brunch in Troy. I find them pretty unique and definitely one of a kind. I'm hoping to take some classes in the near future such as sculpting with clay or a few of the culinary classes. Overall a simple and neat arts center with plenty of activities for art and culture seekers.

This was an unexpected gem of an art museum in the heart of Utica. The MWPAI has two main buildings and includes a lovely collection of paintings and sculptures. The highlight of the museum is the set of paintings by Thomas Cole on the top floor of the main building. These works illustrate various stages in one's life cycle from youth to middle-age to older-age. I was impressed by the quality of the collection here and a visiting exhibit of works by a contemporary artist from Atlanta. We arrived around 11:30am on a Thursday and went immediately to the Terrace Cafe after a quick restroom stop. The cafe is open from 11am to 3pm Tuesdays through Saturdays and has outdoor seating. I was impressed by the quality of our bistro-style lunch prepared by a professional chef. We enjoyed some iced tea and the fried deviled eggs with horseradish, dijon and scallions as an appetizer. My 13-year old son devoured his MWP burger (mustard-whiskey-peppercorn glaze), while I had the Saratoga Quiche which was light and refreshing. We were too full for dessert. Who knew that Utica could provide an elegant yet affordable lunch with a lovely outdoor view? Be sure to ask the waiter for recommendations on main dishes and appetizers. Although the service can be a bit slow, it's a delightful spot for a leisurely lunch where you can relax and unwind. We are not local, we are literally traveling through town to head south back to our home in NC after a 3 week road trip to Maine. We don't know the area at all , so we used Yelp to help find a place to eat a very late lunch. Nothing within an hour of here had great reviews and the ones that had okay reviews all seemed sketchy when we pulled into their parking lots. We then found this place. Yelp claimed it was open until 5. Google said 6. We arrived and saw 2 people sitting inside. I asked the cashier in the restaurant because the sign on the door said they close at 4 and it was 3:45. She said we could still eat. I even asked if she needed us to take it to go, she said no, it would be fine. We felt super uncomfortable the whole time. The young blond hair 20(ish) year old gentleman was very friendly with us. He was also helping the older women sitting by us that were wrapping things up. He gets 5 stars from us, he was fantastic. The young ladies that were working, and there were maybe 4 or 5 of them coming in and out of the kitchen and such, gave a bad vibe to a place that is probably usually really cool. They all acted frustrated and irritated with us. One girl mumbled something to the young gentleman about what we ordered like it was a hassle, but he quickly responded that our Caesar salad and panini were easy peasy and he could go make them. I'm not upset, however, a little irritated because I do understand we went in at closing, but I asked if it was okay to still order, and even told the girl it was not a big deal if they were closing and we could not order because we are typically not the people who do this. She said it was okay, so if those employees were to be irritated with anyone, it should be the girl who told us it was okay to order. Final thoughts, food was great, just don't arrive within 15-20 minutes before closing otherwise you might get glares, feel super uncomfortable, and have to eat fast like we did.
