The books are brand new and are therefore priced above what you would pay at another book store. Prices are steep. There is no place to sit. It is hot inside this corner wood-shack. Overall, Dove is well laid out, tidy but very predictable. I found no 'old' books, or 'second hand' books or 'well-thumbed' books: just crisp, shiny books bought someplace else and now being sold at Dove for $5-10 more! The owner - slouched back in a easy-chair - was licking his fingers turning pages of a magazine. I tried talking to the geezer: this individual must have had his mouth full of 'gorilla glue'. It's smallish (see picture) but a huge improvement over not having a bookstore in the mall. My only real quibble is the hours (see photo for hours as of late August, 2023); they make it hard to combine a swing by the bookstore with a trip to the Local or the movies, pretty much the only things that draw us to Viaport these days (although perhaps more on the schedule of the fans of the aquarium). We barely had time to take a gander arriving for a movie matinee when they were closing up! Sales support the excellent county library system and the place is a pleasure to browse, so stop in sometime and find something to take home.

Every time I visit, there's something there that I need to take home with me. And thankfully, they hold furniture for two weeks after you purchase it, which is incredible. The prices are always fair and the staff is incredibly welcoming and helpful. I highly recommend Yellow Lab for a unique and fun shopping experience!

A fun place to browse for secondhand books or the small collection of recent remainders that I…read moremissed until spotting the sign on my way out. I think the antiquarian books are well hidden or behind the desk. The old gentleman working there wasn't even aware I was in the shop, I think, until I spotted him at a desk and approached to ask a question. He was pretty helpful once I did though. Organization is general--by topic but definitely not by author or subsections within each topic. If you're at all sensitive to mold or musty books, bring and wear a mask. I only had 15 minutes before they closed, but found a couple of slim nonfiction treasures: $1 for a Zen Buddhist journal/magazine, and $2 for a pamphlet. The collection is heavy and nonfiction, including plenty of history, religion, and social sciences, with some art & music. Fiction is a mix of non-current popular titles and quasi-vintage books. I asked about science fiction and fantasy and there was one shelf, mostly old science fiction. I hope to go back to browse, and bring a mask and my history-book-loving husband.

The bookstore is just outside the Stockade district. Plenty of on street parking directly outside…read morethe store. I visited on a snowy Saturday morning and there were 8 other shoppers browsing. I picked out two hardcovers novels but did not use the sitting area to read. To my surprise there was a holiday special and my total cost was $5. Unbelievable for books with no signs of wear or tear. I overheard the two female employees discussing an author with a customer who was paying for her books. I imagine the employees are helpful with any literary questions you may have. I will definitely return.
