I finally got a chance to check out The Studio! Actually, I've had TWO appointments there this week! :) Jillian Heflin and Danielle Schukar (formerly with Rod Sickler Salon and Spa) are both amazing. Jillian's cut and color touch up were awesome, as always. If you are looking for nothing short of perfection in a stylist, Jillian is your girl. Her attention to detail exceeds what you will find pretty much anywhere else. Jillian's expertise in color (ummmm she did an AMAZING job of color correction of an 'ooops' moment on me when I first met her) is unrivaled and she takes great care to put thought into how she does everything. Danielle is without a doubt the premier esthetician in town. Her level of knowledge and experience with a variety of skin types and conditions is second to none. Danielle will tell you exactly what you need to know--she's one of the most down to earth people in the world and you can bare your soul (or just about anything else, depending on what you're having done!) to her. Her integrity knows no bounds. Now onto the salon. It is new and it is gorgeous! As you walk in, you'll see the styling area directly ahead--this gorgeous salon has some very luxe little extras that make a big difference. The shampoo chairs have footrests like recliners. (ahhhh!) The dryers are overhead on pneumatic arms that are pulled down from the wall and have this really cool cyclonic heat thing going on where the heat isn't blown down on you like a typical dryer--instead it is swirled around INSIDE the dryer and goes back up into the dryer! How cool! The nail and makeup area is big and full of sunshine and offers all the typical amenities including comfy pedicure chairs. Interstingly enough, there is not a jacuzzi-style foot bath on these chairs--the concept is that the nail technician does the work (and the fabulous foot/ankle massage) instead of the water. Off to the side are the peaceful aesthetics rooms where you can have any type of facial or waxing service and a dedicated massage room. The hydrotherapy room at the end of the hall allows for all of the 'wet' treatments and vichy shower options you would expect. As you go around the corner, through the next door on the right is the actual photo studio. All I can say is WOW. There are so many options for photo sessions--you'll just have to check it out yourself! The coolest thing they are doing now, though is boudoir photos. (BTW, there is a DARLING little dressing room off of the photo studio where you can change outfits. It's like a vinatage little dressing area with cushy chairs and a pretty vanity and it is FILLED with options for your shoot in case you don't own a large variety of corsets, high heels, or frilly things! The other really cool thing about The Studio is that you can book your own appointmens online so you can do that at your leisure. This is an amazing feature if you are anything like me and don't get the chance to make those calls until you actually sit down at night and realize it's like 11 PM! Of course your confirmations are emailed/texted to you as well, depending on your preference. Your receipts can even be emailed instead of printed--always a great option if you are looking at how to be green! So all in all, I have to say I'm impressed! :) read more

I absolutely LOVE going to the Studio! I have been going to the Studio for two years. Before that I had gone to Rod Sickler (did not like! Is overpriced and unexperienced stylists with bad attitudes) and BJ Grand Salon & Spa (was decent, they did a good job with my color). Even after moving to Chicago 5 months ago, I still go back to the studio for my hair cuts and color with Chandra and waxes and microderms with Danielle. Chandra is awesome. She listens, is attentive, and a great stylist and colorist. She makes me feel at ease and am completely comfortable while at the Studio. I was very happy with my haircut and hair color results! Jillian was also a great source for consultation on hair products and color treatments. The Studio is so blessed to have Danielle as a skin care and waxing specialist extraordinaire! She is a gem. I met Danielle at Rod Sickler a couple years ago for a Microdermabrasion, and she was awesome. I received my first brazilian wax from Danielle. As you can imagine I was terrified - but she made it completely painless and actually quite an enjoyable experience as she was able to keep conversation going, and make me laugh :) Ever since then, Danielle is the only person that handles my brazilian waxes and my facials. I am a very loyal client of hers. I trust her completely and she has done a fantastic job earning and keeping my trust. I trust the Studio. I know that they will take care of me every time that I go. Again, even after moving to Chicago I still go to the Studio for all my hair and waxing needs!! read more

I have been getting waxed for about 7 years now and I just moved into town from Los Angeles. It is really nerve racking to use "trial and error" as an effective means to find a good bikini waxer. Ouch. I don't know anyone here, so as you can imagine I was pretty nervous about finding someone. I was recommended to Danielle at The Studio Spa through a friend of a friend of a friend. She was called "the best vagina waxer this side of the mississippi". She absolutely lived up to that description! She was funny and charming and put me totally at ease. Danielle was professional and sanitary. She used a mixture of hard and soft wax to get the cleanest results and it was pretty much the most painless (as painless as a brazillian bikini wax can be, I suppose...) experience. Danielle is by far the best esthetician in town. I've gone to all the other major salon and spas in Champaign-Urbana and I've never been completely satisfied. Danielle does a thorough job in whatever you're getting waxed, and she makes you feel very comfortable by walking you through everything. She also has a great sense of humor and makes you feel at ease. For haircut and color, I've gone to Jillian for a couple years now and I can't say enough good things about her! She is an expert when it comes to color and I've always been extremely happy with the results. She'll listen to exactly what you want and isn't like other stylists who just want to cut,cut,cut. Jillian Heflin is new to The Studio but I have been going to her for a couple of years so she not new to the business (she used to be at Rod Sickler's for those of you that might be looking for her). I highly recommend her to anyone in the C/U area wanting color or highlight's-that's her specialty. The girl is a master! My cuts are always perfect too. She's up to date with the trends and knows her stuff!! I haven't ever found anyone I have been consistently this happy with. I went in this morning with hair past my collar bones in need of serious shaping but basically what I liked. Woody said it was too bulky and hid my face. I said it needed shaping, the bangs didn't work. I repeated several times that I like my hair right around shoulder length. I walked out of there with Justin Bieber hair. I am 50. It may not be the worst cut I've ever had but it was certainly the biggest/worst surprise. If I could stay in the house with the mirrors covered until it grows out, I would. Today was my first visit to The Studio - the set-up is fantastic, up-to-date and ergonomic. Jillian has taken care of my color/cut for several years now and I would follow her anywhere. I receive more compliments on my hair and would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone. She is a genius when it comes to knowing not only what will look good on your facial shape and hair texture - but she also recognizes my skill level (or lack of) at maintaining the cut/style. I go to Danielle for bikini waxing and she is THE BEST! There is no need to look anywhere else. I feel minimal pain during a session - but if it does hurt for a bit, I don't notice because I'm too busy laughing because she's also hysterical. As for the Studio itself, the entire setup is really nice. Their reception area feels very modern and relaxing. All of the staff is very welcoming, and they create a great atmosphere. Plus, they have Netflix in the waiting area so if you arrive early you can watch TV! read more

I would suggest this salon to anyone of my friends, and I have (4 and they have all returned to the salon). We all love the environment of the salon and Danielle Schukar. I have been getting waxed by her for about a year now and have not had one experience that wasn't great. She and all of the staff are so helpful; I call and they usually have an appt. for me that day or the next. Tonight was my first visit to The Studio and I was instantly impressed with the look and feel of the place. I was there for the works...first up, a dynamite massage, then a facial followed by a pedicure. I was extremely impressed with the skill level of all three wonderful women that worked on me. I have been going to Danielle for waxes, and I am obsessed! Danielle is BY FAR the coolest person I've met in Champaign, makes great conversation to take your mind off of the waxing, and I have experienced barely any pain at all as a first timer to waxing and I have extremely sensitive skin. I have had my hair cut at the Studio several times since December, and I was happy with every single visit. Bob, the stylist who cuts my hair, is very experienced. He listens carefully and really knows how to cut men's hair (which is hard to find in this town). The person at the front desk is super-nice, the place is modern and clean, and I find the price very reasonable. What else could anyone ask for? Highly recommended. read more

I had my first visit with Jillian at The Studio last week and she was amazing....she spent a lot of time with me being a new customer making sure that she got things just the way I asked, and it was very appreciated. Kayla did my hair and was very friendly. I hate going to place where they don't talk to you, it's kind of awkward. She listened to what I wanted and she did great. It's the best hair cut I had in years. I will be going here from now on. I also wanted to get my eyebrows done and the lady looked at my eyebrows and said they were fine. Danielle did a fantastic job on my Brazilian wax. She was incredibly professional, but also laid back which made me feel very comfortable. She was quick and made the process as pain-free as it could be. The room was very clean, and she used a new stick each time she dipped into the wax. She also played an awesome playlist throughout! If you need a bikini wax, Danielle at the Studio is the woman to see. She used to work at Rod Sickler's and is absolutely amazing. I've had my fair share of bad brazilians, but never one from her. She's very friendly, efficient (which to me is the most important!) and the end result is great! I've been extremely happy with every wax and I highly recommend her. I recently started going here since a the stylist I go to moved here. The decor is modern and nice, and the staff has been friendly. The chairs for shampoo/conditioner sinks are quite comfortable, moreso than any other I've sat in. I also like the online reservations. Not that calling is difficult, but doing it online is a nice perk! Overall I've been pleased so far. read more

I had full leg wax and bikini with Danielle Schukar and her service was exceptionally quick and enjoyable. I like the products The Studio uses for this service. There are no bumps afterwards or strange sticky wax spots. Danielle offered tips for post-wax care, which I followed, and my skin was never irritated. I definitely recommend Danielle. read more

I had an amazing facial with Debbie. She created a very calming environment, checked in with my comfort level frequently, and provided a top-notch facial. I've had facials at other establishments and my experience at the Studio was significantly better. All of the staff at the Studio were attentive and helpful. I would recommend it highly! read more
