The atmosphere is warm and cozy , a place where you can walk in after work wearing a suit or just relax in sweatpants, and no one will think twice. The service is excellent, always attentive and kind, especially helpful for someone like me who doesn't drink and appreciates thoughtful recommendations.

Best old fashioned I've ever had.

Great food, staff and tapas! They actually pair you with the liquor based on the notes you enjoy and are true masters of their craft.

Came here with husband and friends. Food were not too bad however they should work on the presentation a little bit more (as pics), especially if they are charging this price. My friend and I order a martini, while sounds interesting on the menu, fell short on the execution.

The service was good and food/drinks were fine. Big downside is the price - New York City prices in Iowa City!!

The attitudes could improve. So snarky and they have only been here for a minute. Waste of oxygen.

I appreciated the waitress' recommendations; we definitely ordered more than we normally would, but left full and delighted. My favorite was the trout and my partner's fav was the potato salad. The $50 sirloin steak was served cold. Because our waitress, Grace H, failed to even ask how our food was the entire time until after we had eaten everything I couldn't even send it back. I spent the entire time trying to make eye contact with her but she was busy taking new tables. When she finally came to ask how our food was and was told, her response was I will let the kitchen know. Not "I will bring you another plate" or even discount or comp the entree. Not what you'd expect from Iowa city's fine dining flagship. The prices were not just expensive, but over the top expensive. $50 for an 8 ounce sirloin. $56 for 12 average oysters. To be honest it's below average in value to a nice restaurant in LA, NY or Chicago. They may thrive because the IC elite doesn't have many options for upscale dining. But for someone who has lived in those cities and eaten at Michelin star culinary venues this place is lacking in both food and service for the prices they charge. It was enough of a bad experience that I will never be back. There's Chez Grace, Joseph's and 126 which offer quality food, much better value and food service. Posting my food pics and the receipt to see what $200 gets you here.

What I mean by that is, it does not look like a Mexican restaurant. But it EXCELS at Mexican cuisine. I highly recommend ordering anything you'd see at a Mexican restaurant. The drinks: The Blueberry Fields drink was good but pricey given the size and wasn't "blueberry" enough for my husband. I liked it, but I'd want it by the mason jar, and that would be super expensive. I had the hibiscus margarita and it was *very* enjoyable. The food: My husband had the Des Moines Po' Boy. I wish he would have realized that he was basically getting a sub. He liked the soft bread. Overall though, he wasn't impressed. He said it was kind of bland. But he loved the fries and ranch. I had the puerco en salsa verde--this dish is incredible! Really tender chunks of pork in a rich tomatillo salsa verde with beans and rice. The only thing that could be better is if there were 3 fresh corn tortillas instead of 2. There is so much rich, delicious, saucy pork to eat, that you need 3 to enjoy it all. The tortillas are fresh made too. So yummy! In summary: Go here and enjoy all the Mexican dishes!

If you are familiar with an old Iowa City bar called the mill, there are pieces of there here The food was plentiful and tasted great. I had the brisket po boy tender cooked brisket and a tasty BBQ sauce The totally was under 40 for two of us.

My first choice off the menu ended up not being available as one of ingredients was out. So, my second choice, a chicken sandwich was just okay. While the chicken was tender, it was very salty - too salty. It needed more flavor and less salt. The fries were okay, nothing memorable and a little soggy. Our server was great and she's what made the experience enjoyable. She was really on top of it and made sure to keep our drinks full and that we had what we needed. The ambiance is pretty good at Vue; it is fun to be on the top of the hotel and see Iowa City and the University of Iowa campus down below.

We got a cheeseboard that really needed some honey or berry compute to brighten up the flavors of the cheese. And then it came with toasted baguette which typically is only slightly toasted to still give the chew of a bread. But this was toasted to the max so it was all crunch. At that point I would have rather eaten a cracker. Also, the cheese itself just wasn't anything special. Then I got a spinach salad which was really good. But I got the truffle fries that came out with ketchup so we asked for the aioli but it was SO gross! I love aioli and this was straight up mayo from a squeeze bottle with garlic. The rest of my table got salmon and they enjoyed it! We had a wonderful waiter and enjoyed the ambiance. And I think if Vue makes a few changes to their charcuterie board and gets rid of the awful aioli it will help!
