I know I've had a better food experience in the past and I'd like to think that the next time I come to Vue, I'll have that again. This particular visit, not so great. My first choice off the menu ended up not being available as one of ingredients was out. So, my second choice, a chicken sandwich was just okay. While the chicken was tender, it was very salty - too salty. It needed more flavor and less salt. The fries were okay, nothing memorable and a little soggy. Our server was great and she's what made the experience enjoyable. She was really on top of it and made sure to keep our drinks full and that we had what we needed. We got a cheeseboard that really needed some honey or berry compute to brighten up the flavors of the cheese. And then it came with toasted baguette which typically is only slightly toasted to still give the chew of a bread. But this was toasted to the max so it was all crunch. At that point I would have rather eaten a cracker. Also, the cheese itself just wasn't anything special. Then I got a spinach salad which was really good. But I got the truffle fries that came out with ketchup so we asked for the aioli but it was SO gross! I love aioli and this was straight up mayo from a squeeze bottle with garlic. The rest of my table got salmon and they enjoyed it! We had a wonderful waiter and enjoyed the ambiance. And I think if Vue makes a few changes to their charcuterie board and gets rid of the awful aioli it will help! read more

Cam was an excellent server. He recommended the salmon and it did not disappoint! It exceeded my expectations and the brussels sprouts were also amazing. They might've been a little undercooked, but the flavoring and crispiness made me not even Care. Tonight my friend celebrated her Birthday here! We were seated at 5 and the place filled up fairly quickly; so I'd recommend a reservation. I wanted to step outside for some pictures and of course "the vue" And the manager went out of her way to make this happen. As this is Iowa, the outdoor experience is seasonal. I was up here as part of a group of fellow University of Iowa alums who were in town for an Engineering Department Board meeting. We were just inside, but still with a bit of a view. We had a great time over drinks and dinner. Our service was friendly, helpful, and engaged. I thought that the menu was a bit limited, and the Caesar Salad that I chose was quite good. She recommended the pork chop, which was one of the juiciest pork chops I've had in a long time. The food was great and I wanted to enjoy about three more cocktails as delicious as this one was. We love going to the Vue on game weekends, it's a great spot to get drinks and a bite to eat and catch up with friends also just getting into town! Anxious to change my venue, took a road trip to the Vue. What a spectacular rooftop view of the city with 7 large sports screens, a plethora of wines and other libations. Came here with a buddy of mine... Sat at the bar... Grabbed a beer menu and had a good beer. That was the highlight of the evening because the food came next,. My buddy had the burger, which he said was a fairly dry piece of meat, and said it seemed like it had been in deep freeze since the Obama administration before they thawed it out and served it to him. I asked the waitress behind the bar what she recommended on the menu and she said all the beef was local and delicious. I am visiting Iowa, I thought to myself that the meat had to be good since in this part of the world, it should be considering it's the beautiful farmland of the US. I had the New York strip, Ordered it medium rare, and it came out medium...but it didn't matter because there was no rescuing this piece of meat...the quality was poor. It was tough, flavorless and unmemorable ...if you do go to this restaurant just drink the beer since the kitchen can't screw it up. BTW... the wait staff stood at the end of the bar talking smack to each other pretty much the whole time while we were eating our meal. Maybe that's their break room--I don't know --but it sure did reflect on the poor service we received. Get a manager who cares. read more

The service was absolutely EXCELLENT, friendly and professional. The atmosphere was also great. Unfortunately, the food was a disappointment. I got the harvest salad, the goat cheese was missing and the "maple dijon vinaigrette" was (near as I could tell) just mustard and lots of it, it was the only flavor the dish had and it was overwhelming--even for someone who generally likes mustard. I ate less than half of it and was still nauseous from all the mustard. My companions ordered pork chops and fish, they said they were good but my bf mentioned after we left that his pork chop was still a bit pink. A few weeks ago the Vue hosted an amazing rehearsal dinner for my friend's wedding. The service was incredible and all of the food for about 50 people came out and was timed impeccably. A fantastic steak and a chocolate torte (that I ate so fast I forgot to take a picture) was a great way to celebrate. It's on the top floor of a Hilton I believe with a great "Vue" or the city! For a hotel venue, the Vue on the 12th floor of the Hilton Garden Inn is a trendy, hot spot restaurant with a full bar and seven TVs. Food is fresh and reasonably priced. Specialty drinks are interesting and reasonably priced at between $12-$14 for each cocktail. The Lavender Rose Royale is served in a champagne glass and is delicious. Would be a great alternative to a simple mimosa on a hot summer morning. French Onion Soup is new to their menu. For a large bowl at $8, it's a bargain! Half order of Caesar Salad with Salmon and a bowl of French Onion Soup was a great meal. Full, satisfied, but not overstuffed. read more

We stayed 2 nights at the Hilton Garden Inn this past weekend. We are from Texas and one of the reasons we chose the hotel is because we saw the The Vue Rooftop was the on-site restaurant (the online menu, reviews and pics looked great). The Vue Rooftop did not disappoint! The craft cocktails were off the hook - the Perfect Pear was, well, PERFECT. My husband had the Sunrise Sangria, then another night, a Martini Flight. All were fantastic. We saw that there was a wine and bourbon flight as well, though we didn't try it. For food we had the Lobster Risoto (absolutely delicious), the Firecracker Shrimp (my only regret is I can't quit craving it), then also the Summer Vegetable Pasta, Cheese Curds and warm bread were delicious as well. The beautiful view that surrounds restaurant is breathtaking (day and night) and really adds to the experience. Lastly, but most importantly, the service - everyone was so friendly, skilled and professional It made our trip so enjoyable. Special shout outs to Dillon, Mia, Cade, Kaiden and Gage. Hello Everyone, First this place is "Damn Cool" for Iowa City! Not slamming Iowa City but unexpected. The ambiance is fantastic over looking most of the city. It is on campus and downtown. So there is a lot going on. My server made the evening for me. I do not remember her name, but she had short pink hair. She is a Gem! I gave four stars only because i was a expecting a luttle more wow! Well done but not the wow! People go and enjoy it! It really is a great place Ok i was back! I still love the place. Had an 8:15 reservation on Fri June 14 for a party of 4. Immediately when they sat us they said we had to be out before 9:30 because they were turning floor into salsa dancing. Our waiter was not trained well. We waited 30 min for our cocktails then longer for our meals. We ordered wine with our dinner which arrived when we were finished. Risotto was dry and had been sitting out. My steak was not good. We were then rushed out without finishing our wine. No offer of desserts. If you can't service someone in a proper time frame don't offer a reservation. We had dinner here before and it was good. Spoke to manager who could have cared less. Will not come back! read more
