    Mocktails + Cocktails

Claude is such a refreshing change from the typical Iowa City dining scene. It genuinely feels like a hidden gem you'd stumble into in a bigger city, the interior is stunning and effortlessly stylish. The whole space definitely captures the aesthetic and philosophy the creators had. The drinks were definitely the highlight. I had the Hurricane Noir (mocktail) and it was so much more than a fun juice, super refreshing with a really balanced fruity flavor. My friends ordered the Orange Bloom (and another cocktail) and they loved theirs too. Everything felt thoughtfully made, not just thrown together. Service was also fantastic: helpful, polite, and charming without being overbearing. I also loved being able to watch the drinks being made, it's a small detail, but it adds to the overall experience and makes it feel more elevated. Food-wise... it was a little hit or miss for me. We ordered the smoked salmon mousse, and it wasn't what I expected. The salmon flavor was very strong and slightly bitter, with no citrus or brightness to balance it out...just straight salmon. If you love salmon, you'll probably enjoy it, but it wasn't personally my favorite. The cheese spread, though, had great flavor and a generous amount of cheese, with really nice additions like nuts and figs. That said, the bread served with both spreads was disappointing. Most of the pieces were basically crust with holes in the center, which made it hard to actually eat with the dips. It also felt a bit tough to chew, I would've loved it warmed up instead of served at room temperature. We finished off with all three flavors of ice cream, each delicious. It did take some time for the ice cream to arrive and it had melted a bit into the cup by the time it came out, but it wasn't a huge deal. Overall, Claude is a beautiful addition to Iowa City and sets a new standard in atmosphere, drinks, and service. The food didn't fully match the rest of the experience for me, but since they've only just opened, I'm hopeful it'll improve as they settle in. I'll absolutely be back, if only for the drinks and the vibe.

Amazing cocktails, great atmosphere. You'll need to get there early. It fills up fast.

    Drinks!

Drinks were great, vibes were even greater. I felt slightly out of place in my denim jeans and tank top, but did not feel judged for not being dressed fancy. This place has very little seating, but we were lucky enough to get two spots at the bar. 10/10 establishment. Just what Iowa City needs!

What I mean by that is, it does not look like a Mexican restaurant. But it EXCELS at Mexican cuisine. I highly recommend ordering anything you'd see at a Mexican restaurant. The drinks: The Blueberry Fields drink was good but pricey given the size and wasn't "blueberry" enough for my husband. I liked it, but I'd want it by the mason jar, and that would be super expensive. I had the hibiscus margarita and it was *very* enjoyable. The food: My husband had the Des Moines Po' Boy. I wish he would have realized that he was basically getting a sub. He liked the soft bread. Overall though, he wasn't impressed. He said it was kind of bland. But he loved the fries and ranch. I had the puerco en salsa verde--this dish is incredible! Really tender chunks of pork in a rich tomatillo salsa verde with beans and rice. The only thing that could be better is if there were 3 fresh corn tortillas instead of 2. There is so much rich, delicious, saucy pork to eat, that you need 3 to enjoy it all. The tortillas are fresh made too. So yummy! In summary: Go here and enjoy all the Mexican dishes!
