What is How at the Moon ? This is a club, three floors, an amazing staircase, plenty of space, a great choice of cocktails, cool music and really nice people ! Is it difficult to get in ? Let me think about this one. Everytime I go there, I just greet the security guy and get in the place. I do not know if it's difficult for guys to get in because whenever I go there, I go with male friends and they just follow me. So, I would say that you simply need to dress up a bit and be nice to the security guy at the entrance. It will all be fine ! I want more ! Howl at the Moon is just the place to go when you want to go for an after party. Actually I am living quite close to the place so, when I come back from city center, I sometimes decide to stop and spend some time there before going home. What do you usually do there ? When I get into the place I first of all stay on the ground floor, order a drink at the bar and go sit in one of the comfortable armchairs to have a chat with my friends. If you are a little hungry, you can ask for finger food. You will get French fries, chicken nuggets and eventually some other fried finger food. It's not too greasy, and does great when you have a little alcohol on the side. Beware that the kitchen closes at 23.00. Still I was there tonight, and at 23,15 they managed to bring me some food even though the kitchen was supposed to be closed. People are really nice, they will always make the efford to make you happy ! What do you do afterwards ? After a drink or two, I usually go downstairs. There is a huge room with a DJ on the left and a big great dancefloor on the right. A bar is in frond of the entrance. I just pick a high table close to the dancefloor so that I can check my drink while I dance. I don't want anybody to add any unknown/crazy/illicit substances into it. You see what I mean girls ! Do you have fun ? The music is very cool, modern and sometimes retro, the DJs are always very professionals ! The dancefloor would be quite empty until 23.30 when it starts to get really crowded. And at 3.30 in the morning, it would be so packed that you can barely see your feet ! It seems that you really know what you're talking about ! Oh yeah ! Between you and me it's 4.00 in the morning now and I just come back from Howl at the Moon. I have had a great time ! I went there with a great friend, met a bunch of new friends and look forward to going back in the next weekends to come ! If you're going there on a Friday or Saturday night, be sure to turn up early as there is a queue for the place by about 11o'clock. I was kind of semi-casual dressed going to the door, and the lad who was with me was proper casually dressed, and we almost didn't get in, so dress sharp, men. The place is pretty snazzy inside, it reminds me of the hotel in 'The Shining' for some reason, all elegant staircases everywhere (actually, probably more staircases per cubic foot than in any other club I've ever been in). The dancefloor isn't huge, but there is a lot of general standy-around kind of space for you to break into the robot in if you feel the need. The highlight of Howl at the Moon is probably the smoking area, which is sort of like a big terrace, one of the best that I have seen. Howl at the Moon is over 23s, so a slightly older crowd, and maybe a little more sedate than other clubs. I wouldn't go every week or anything but it is really not a bad spot, it's worth a shot if you've never been, if not for anything else than the décor alone.

The only people coming out where a bunch of old dudes (like my self) not models or anything worth the exclusivity. Pretty much don't bother this place is BS. PS the only 5 stars seem to be from young women so probably the only ones getting in and getting a drink.

There were quite a few people waiting outside, inquiring quite politely and reasonably soberly about getting in. There was no aggression or drunken messes at all. Well the bouncers didn't have a breeze what to do and started spouting crap about it being a VIP club and if you weren't on the list you weren't getting in. This is obviously not true. So they gave up on this approach shortly thereafter and told everybody to queue to the left. Then they said nobody on the left was getting in. I pointed out that they had asked people to queue on the left but the fella denied it. So we gave up and headed up to The Odeon. It was quite bizarre. They were either completely incompetent or evil geniuses that wanted to get rid of a crowd. I reckon it's the former because the only reason to have turned people away would have been if the club was full and surely they would have just explained that. Anyway, won't be in a rush to encounter those clowns again.

Tamangos (or "Joes" as the initiated refer to it for some reason) has been famous for generations for its 'Grab a granny night'. Back when my oul lad first moved to Dublin, Grab a granny night happened on the second Tuesday of every month, as this is when the mother's of Dublin got their children's allowance, and the only chance of having a few bob to go for a hooley. These days, what with everyone being more affluent (well, for the time being anyway), Grab a grannny night happens every Tuesday, so if older women are your thing, have a ball. Being the only nightclub for a few miles around, Tamangos can charge what they like: it's usually €15 to get into the place, and standard club prices for drinks. It's kind of worth it the odd time though: the place really looks like a cheezy hotel bar. Which it is, so that makes sense, I guess. And now that the summer is here again, they have their student nights on Wednesdays, so it's €10 in and €3 drinks. Which is grand.

And because of it's teeny tiny size everything sounds much louder than it should, throw in a few fancy lights and this is one of the best 'loud music' venues in Dublin. But it's not, I've seen some absolute clangers in here. So I'd advise checking out who's playing before dishing out a cover charge, and maybe invest in some ear plugs too.
