Gella's Diner is an absolute gem in Hays…read more From the moment you walk in, the beautiful décor sets the tone--warm, stylish, and way more inviting than you'd ever expect from a brewery‑diner combo. The service matches the atmosphere perfectly: friendly, attentive, and genuinely happy to help you navigate their creative menu. The food here is where things really take off. The steak & blue cheese salad was outstanding--fresh, bold, and packed with flavor. The ahi tuna poke nachos were another knockout, the kind of dish you keep thinking about long after you leave. And if you're a burger person, this place is dangerous in the best way. Their burgers are consistently amazing: juicy, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Of course, you can't come to Gella's without enjoying their great beer, brewed right on site. Every pint feels like it was crafted to pair perfectly with the food. If you're in Hays, Gella's is a must‑visit. Creative dishes, great beer, beautiful space, and service that makes you feel right at home. An easy five stars.

Colby, Kansas, March 2026…read more This restaurant is downtown Colby and has street parking that is all free. Inside has very few tables. In the center they have a long table with iced tea, water, plates, silverware, and condiments. You kind of help and serve yourself. There is no wait staff. When you want to order you go to the bar to get your drinks and place your food order. The menu consists of Salad, a few appetizers and pizza and burgers. This place is quite busy for a Thursday night at 7 PM. I ordered boneless wings and cheese bread. My husband ordered a Hawaiian pizza. He had a Coke which comes with free refills and I ordered a dark Porter draft called Frankie. Very light in taste. Undertones of vanilla and sweetness. It was not very cold. So I had to add ice. I did try the pomegranate wheat beer and that was bitter cold. Just the way it should be. The food came quickly. I had eight large boneless chicken wings. I went with barbecue flavor and it was accompanied with large cup of blue cheese. The breading on the chicken was very good. The chicken, however, was extremely tough. Very hard to chew. The small pizza is extremely small. I've seen kids pizzas larger than this. My cheesy bread was not bread at all. It was a small cheese pizza with the sauce served in a cup in the middle of the pizza. The flavor was horrible. It was tough and chewy. The crust was so hard. It really was difficult to eat. There are two dogs, both are labradors. The yellow one is Barley and she is so extremely friendly. The black one is kind, but not ad outgoing. Her name is Maize. I was so excited about coming here. Such great reviews. I hate to be the sour one, but the food here that I tried was not good at all. The beer had good flavor and would have been perfect, if it had been served cold. My suggestion would be for staff to turn the water and tea station to the other side so that when the line at the bar gets long to order, you don't have to apologize for trying to get your drink. Such a simple fix would make a big difference. I also think if they put the T station and condiment station in a different location, they could probably get at least five more tables in the restaurant. As busy as it became, that might be beneficial. I give this three stars.

I got the double mushroom smasher burger, the cracklins, and onion rings, and all were fantastic! The beer is unique and delicious which matches the food. After reading the great reviews of their food and looking at the menu (and on their website) we were excited to get something that wasn't fast food. Told by a lovely barkeep that all they had were their late night menu - wings, cheese curds and fries. They had lost their cook, and hence no more fish tacos, chicken parm sandwich, etc. I ordered all 3 items, half wings with garlic parm and half boom boom, cheese curds and jazzed fries. Food came out very quickly and with a smile. The one star is for the friendly barkeep/cook. Food, very meh. Enough said. Perhaps inform the unsuspecting hungry customer that your menu isn't available- on Yelp or on your website. I mean, it's a bar after all, I suppose, and not a restaurant. And this'll teach me to read the dates on all those food reviews on Yelp! (It looked like a great place to hang and shoot some pool and listen to decent music. Just don't expect 90% of the food menu to be available.)

I'll be honest: Russell, Kansas, was not on my mental map of places to eat well. But fate (and…read moreYelp) intervened. Suddenly we were pushing open the door to Waudby's entering, notably, through the bar side, which felt charmingly unpretentious in a you-wouldn't-get-this-in-Manhattan sort of way. The space splits cleanly between lively bar energy and a quieter, separate dining room, which I deeply appreciated after hours on the road and approximately twelve internal monologues. Then, the food. Genuinely outstanding. I ordered the Philly, fully expecting road-trip decent, and instead received something delightful, indulgent, and as good as versions I've had in Pennsylvania neighborhoods where people argue loudly over sandwiches. But the true sleeper hit? The cornballs. Please, I beg you, do not pass on them. They are crispy, nostalgic, and perfect. The kind of globs of fried bliss you'll still be thinking about once you're home pretending to only eat salads. Waudby's is proof excellent food exists far beyond city zips, and I would absolutely return. If I find myself in Russell again, this is a mandatory stop. The waitress and servers were absolute sweeties. My friend adds: the homemade ranch dressing was so good, you could almost drink it.
