We have loved the move to Sunshine Cottage from our previous daycare! Our daughter is in Ms Lia's class and is so well-cared for -- she gets just the right amount of independence while still being able to socialize with other kids. We are so impressed by the updates we get (the app this school uses updates in real time instead of getting a report at the end of the day like our last place); it has made all the difference in our night routines knowing that she had a tough time taking a nap at 2 instead of figuring it out at home at 630. We also have enjoyed the extras that are at Sunshine Cottage -- huge playgrounds with age appropriate equipment, bikes/trikes to work on motor skills, dress up bins and play areas in the classroom, and (our latest exciting update) a dance class from an outside studio that is sooo affordable! read more

The poorest quality of care, curriculum, cleanliness and the owners lack of support for staff is sad! These folks do not do trainings but they sign off anyway. These folks owner constantly changes staff hours to not pay them the time they work. The children are fed very unhealthy foods, no milk on their menu for over 3 years. The program does not adhere to state standards and is constantly reported and cited. I'd never recommend leaving children here of any age....EVER! read more

My daughters daily reports were filled out maybe twice out of 5 days. The owner is very unprofessional when handling situations. Let's just compare......my daughter has now been in a new daycare for about 2 months now. She has not had any pee accidents (she is 3), she is getting more education and doing more art. We have so much more to talk about when I pick her up. Her daily reports are detailed. She is getting exposed to more. They have an outside visitor at least once a week. (Police, fire fighters, tooth fairy, music man, story time, STEAM, a library.... so much more exposure. My daughter does miss her main teacher who did treat her with a lot of love at sunshine cottage. But she also likes her new teacher. The communication at my daughters new school is 10 times better and is a whole lot more organized. Everyone is on the same page....sunshine cottage can be very inconsistent. read more

I worked at this center and all I can't say is that it is not a place I'd send my friends or family. This "company" under pays and over works their employees. The environment is very dull and the classrooms aren't funded the way they should be, especially with how much the owner makes off of enrollment that she over charges on. When there's a child who acts out and disrupts class they are given warnings. But after a certain point if the child does not comply and improve with their behavior they should be let go. This center keeps children who don't act well with others and they make no effort to fix the issue. This makes classroom management very challenging. This is not a child development center, this is a at home day care and it is a joke. I was cheated out of a lot of money on my check due to resigning my position after working there for only 1 1/2. Because I didn't say long the owner took a chunk of my money and closed her office door with a note saying she couldn't talk. Very unprofessional read more

I am so very grateful for SCP and it's amazing staff! I always feel like my daughter is in wonderful hands when I leave her here. I literally can not say enough great things. The owner, director, support staff and teachers truly care about each and every child. I feel very comfortable talking to any of them if the need should arise. One thing that is not tolerated here is disrespect to the teachers, which I am thankful for because it keeps good teachers. If there is a concern (which happens occasionally because kids are kids), they are more than happy to discuss it and and address things. I believe that this is why not much turnover-it's really nice to see the same faces and to be able to know the teachers won't just change at the drop of a hat. The children get to do a lot of fun activities: learning, art etc. I am so appreciative of all that this wonderful establishment has done for my daughter and me during the 2 years she has been there. The Sunshine Cottage is the best decision we have made for our daughter! She absolutely loves her school and looks forward to going (can't beat that)! The teachers & staff are incredibly friendly & personable and have become like family to us. I feel comfortable knowing she's in good hands and is getting a great education at such an early age. My daughter was 6 weeks when she started at Sunshine and the love and care they gave her was so comforting and amazing! Great communication from all the teachers including the owner Susan, she really cares and makes sure her daycare is in tip top shape. The ladies in the baby room are amazing. My daughter was clean always happy and loved to see the teachers! This daycare would go above and beyond to have Santa during the holidays to surprise the kids, Multiple photo shoots lots of fun activities and art time even for the babies. Unfortunately we moved and no longer attend Sunshine but I would for sure recommend this place to my closest family and friends. Thank you Sunshine for taking great care of my baby!!!!! read more

I have had my son at Sunshine Cottage for almost 5 months now. He is almost 8 months old. We are very happy with the daycare. The teachers are great with him and I know they really care about his well being. My son loves to go to day care. He is happy the moment we walk in the door and lights up when he sees his teachers. The administrative staff are so friendly and helpful. We couldn't be more happy with everything. read more

My son has been at Sunshine Cottage for over 3 years. All of his teachers have been wonderful. They are good at communicating what's going on with him during the day, I usually get 1 or 2 pictures a day of what the class is doing. I have never posted on here, but I felt compelled to share my experience with a local preschool, the Sunshine Cottage in Buda. I had my daughter in a program down the road, which I loved, but reluctantly had to take her out of because it was essentially a mothers day out program, and I wasn't getting enough hours in at work. I had the Sunshine Cottage recommended, and went to visit. I felt there was something off about the owner but it was nothing I could put my finger on, and the place seemed kept well enough. I have been on several waiting lists for a long time, and I guess I was feeling a bit desperate. Long story short, I tried to overlook the fact that she got sick five times in the little more than a month she was there (she had only been sick one time before in her almost two years of life). I also tried to be patient when I picked her up and noticed a very clear bite mark on her, took her inside to point it out and had the owner explain for 20 minutes how she was going to go back through the footage to see where the teachers were during the incident. The next day she said it was just too much footage to go through and a report was never made. Then there was the time one of the teachers was making out with her significant other over the playground fence when I dropped my daughter off, while she was supposed to be watching kids. So Wednesday I picked her up and on the way home I noticed a bump on her head. What follows is the email I sent to the school followed by the response I got from the owner: Once again, no discussion or report. That is the part that bothers me. I know things are going to happen. I also know that the adult supervising should know what happened. I really like all of B's teachers, personally, and having been a nanny, I cannot imagine what it would be like to be in charge of that many. But I also feel like neither of those things are mitigating reasons why both incidents should not have been seen, documented, and me notified. I don't think we need to have a lengthy discussion, I just hope this gets better. Maybe having a floater or two? I don't know. Thanks, Katie Kate. Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. The color and couture of this mark is indicative to a very recent bug/mosquito bite. With the time that this image was taken and sent it was well over a couple of hours that had gone by. I am very well versed in marks, bites, and bumps. This looks as though it had occurred no more that 45 min to an hour prior to you taking the image and sending it. I would like to see another photo so that I can see what it looks like being at least 24 hours old. That way I can give you a closer time of when it could have occurred and what it is. I will work on getting a letter dismissal out to you along with a report of this incident for both to be signed. I truly appreciate you being so wonderful and caring. We too want everything to be everything it can be to everyone. We work hard to keep all our families expectations and needs met. Thus far we have been able to make hundreds of families very happy. I have procured several different college degrees in an effort to have extensive knowledge in many areas to employee in what I do. Grace Ann and I have a wealth of knowledge that we offer to all our teachers and our families. With that being said I am so sorry that we are unable to meet your particular expectations. I offer you two more weeks of care until the 2nd of August to look for other arrangements, but would prefer last day of care be this Friday the 21st. I think dum-dums given to 1-2 year olds is ridiculous and dangerous, and I also think it's not reasonable for a child to come home covered in food everyday, face and hands filthy. Her bedding always came home soiled with food, so I know she wasn't being cleaned before nap time. Since this happened I have had so many mothers reach out to me, several who have at some point been associated with the school (and not necessarily in negative ways-one was a neighbor at one point). Several have said either they, or someone they knew had a very similar experience. Apparently they don't like to make incident reports and if you complain about it, you get kicked out. It makes me sad and nervous for the babies still in their charge. I don't think there is enough competency or accountability at this facility. read more

My daughter has been with Sunshine for more than a year and we are very happy with Sunshine Cottage Preschool. She loves going to preschool and we've had great experiences with the teachers and administration. I would highly encourage parents looking for a preschool to check the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services' Child Care licensing reports on facilities in this area. Sunshine goes to great lengths to ensure the safety of their kids and it's very clear from their compliance reports. Last time I had checked they had seven inspections where 1353 standards were evaluated and ZERO deficiencies were cited. When you combine that with a caring and warm staff, it's clear this is a great option for preschool. read more
