Just ok...probably more 2.5. They never got our breakfasts right and they were so busy we didn't want to complain. They serve breakfast for such a short time, starting at 8, that the 8 time slot is overloaded. the room we stayed in was fine, but not a great value for the price. For a bit more money I'd recommend the Glen Arbor B & B with gourmet breakfasts and well appointed rooms and lots of extras you won't get at the Sylvan. read more

Loved this bed and breakfast! Not only was this a great spot and walking distance to downtown but also close to the walking/biking trail in Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes. The owner was very communicative and quick to respond. Room was comfortable and clean! Breakfast was made once you were ready and brought to you. They also have a lovely porch to enjoy your breakfast and coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening. If you find yourself in Glen Arbor I highly recommend staying here! read more

Thank you to The Sylvan Inn for a wonderful time. If we are fortunate to return to the area, we will certainly hope to stay here again. It's a special place with special owners who love what they do. I highly recommend sitting on the wrap-around porch at night. So silent and peaceful. Our rooms were lovely. Mine included a nice sitting area. A full breakfast was served every morning. Special teas were available around the clock. Also, the location is excellent. It is a short walk to shops, excellent restaurants, the lake, wine-tasting with live music, bike rental, and kayak and canoe rental. Oh, yes, and a bookstore. We biked from the Inn to the Sleeping Bear Dunes. That's not to mention the many things to do in the greater Traverse City area. We would love to return - especially winter to do cross-country skiing. We live in California, though, so who knows! Thank you, Sylvan Inn! read more

Just spent a few days in this charming inn that happens to be in our favorite town. Easy walk to everything downtown as well as Lake Michigan. Cozy rooms, amazing breakfasts, a covered porch that is oh so comfortable and the most gracious innkeeper. We will be back... often. read more

My husband and I stay here every year for our wedding anniversary trip. Its proximity to Sleeping Bear Dunes and the delicious breakfasts are what keep us coming back. This year was a little different due to Covid19 restrictions, but we still enjoyed our time a lot. The innkeepers seemed like they were stretched a bit thin. We stayed from Friday night until Sunday morning, and both breakfasts took at least a 45-minute wait, because they were making each guest's plate individually. As long as you're aware of this and not starving or on a tight schedule, it's not a problem. The food was delicious and made with love and care, as always. Usually there is a wonderful selection of specialty teas from the store next door, but this weekend their supply ran out, and they never refilled. They did have some generic teas in the meantime, and that was fine with us. Our room was comfortable and cozy and clean. The plug in the bathroom wouldn't close completely, so we had to manually screw it shut to take a bath. Other than that, everything was perfect! We especially loved having a small table and chairs to enjoy meals, since takeout meals are more common now. Overall, a wonderful stay and can't wait to go back next year! read more

When my fiancee and I first decided we wanted to take a trip to Glen Arbor, we initially wanted to stay at the Homestead. A few friends recommended it to us and we heard it was an overall great place to stay. Unfortunately, it was booked pretty solid and the only rooms left were extremely expensive. After doing some research online, we settled on the Sylvan Inn. We could not have been happier with our decision! First of all, the Sylvan Inn is right in downtown Glen Arbor (the Homestead is not), so it was within walking distance of all the shops and restaurants. The innkeepers, Ralph and Rose, were extremely nice and helpful anytime we asked for advice on activities and places to see while we were in town. They served a fresh and healthy breakfast each morning, and the entire place was cozy and very clean. I felt right at home at Sylvan Inn from the minute I walked in the door. Ralph and Rose were very inviting, warm and welcoming. Sylvan Inn is a great place to stay if you want to be close to downtown Glen Arbor and if you want to be treated like special guests during your entire visit. read more

We were granted to stay only one night by Rose and Ralph (the owners), in spite of a two night minimum, which already sold me to begin with. We arrived and were greeted by Rose via a very efficient check-in process. She proceeded to give us full attention, even though there was another couple waiting to check in (for whom she called another staff member). She provided us with maps, marked up her favorites, and recommended a secret beach, which turned out to be beautiful! The inn itself is very charming, small, with lots of vintage touches such as old, musty books, flowery couches, and lots of reading material. We had a room with two singles because it was all they had. The room was very clean, stocked with tourist literature and a sink. We had a shared bathroom, which my husband was concerned about, but upon seeing how spick and span everything was kept, we really weren't bothered. Breakfast is really very so-so. There isn't much choice, small muffins and scones and some yogurt, so it's not something to look forward to with the "breakfast" part. Overall the inn is clean, charming, and the owners are very nice. I would definitely stay here again! read more

On the historical register, Sylvan Inn is on the shore of Lake Michigan, nestled in the Sleeping Bear Dunes in the town of Glen Arbor. It feels more like I believe an old time inn must have been - complete with the innkeeper to attend to your needs. My wife, almost 4 year old daughter and I just had a 3 night stay at the Sylvan Inn. We had a great time. Pros: - Location - Right in Glen Arbor, walk to everything - stores, restaurants, kayaking, the lake - Rose and Ralph, the owners. So nice, personable, helpful. We got a little lost on the way and came in a bit late and Rose was very understanding. She got special books for our daughter to read during our stay and gave us a ton of useful, personal info for our trip. They really seemed to like what they are doing and like to get to know the people staying there and help them have a good time - the spa. so nice to hop in the hot tub and sauna on a chilly fall morning. Clean and well maintained - The room was clean, well furnished and had all we needed. ?Cons (depends on what you want): - i have been to some B+B with very elaborate hot breakfasts and that is not what they do here. That being said, the breakfast they put out each morning was good. granola, yogurt, fresh fruit, warm breads, coffee and tea. so I enjoyed the flexibility of eating when we wanted and having more or less of this or that so not a con for me. - eating area a little small when it was too cold for the porch but everyone was nice and we all found a place to sit and eat. We loved it there and recommend the Sylvann Inn. read more

This B&B is in a great location to walk around Glen Arbor, go to the lake, and ride on the bike path to Sleeping Dunes. Everyone working there is friendly and nice, and they served a delicious hot breakfast. You sit at a communal table and chat with the other guests, which I enjoyed. And it is quiet, for a good night's sleep. The inn was clean, but a bit shabby. However, if you are looking for a historic experience, it is not really like that. There is a lot of patterned wallpaper, but the look and furnishings aren't really period. I got a more expensive room with a balcony and it looked out on someone's front porch with some junk piled on it. Also you might not want to get one of the downstairs rooms on the hallway, because the breakfast and the tea station will be right outside your door. read more

We spent three nights with Ralph and Rose at The Sylvan Inn recently and had a wonderful time. The Inn itself is delightful: comfortable, cozy, quiet. At night we slept with the windows open and could hear the surf booming on the beach a couple of hundred yards away. The rooms are well-equipped for a relaxing stay. Tea and coffee in the morning followed by a tasty breakfast; what a great way to start the day! Ralph and Rose were fantastic hosts. They steered us towards fun adventures, great pubs and restaurants, and answered our many questions. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. We will definitely be back. read more

Our first Bed and Breakfast. Probably our last. Room smelled musty, floors creaked a lot and loud, had room 2 with shared patio and private entry. Couldn't use the fan in bathroom because it was so loud. No water pressure but that could be due to the well being hit by lightning a few days before. Very limited breakfast food although good not much of a choice. Table seats 10 or 12 people so get to breakfast early or you will balance your plate on your lap outside. With taxes it was 239.00 per night. Bed was so firm my wife slept the first night sitting up on the sofa (which I am positive was built at least 50 years ago). read more

This a great B & B. Very nice proprieters. Wonderfully quaint town. Owners seemed to have thought of everything .My friend and I had two twin beds and a shared bathroom ,which we were a little hesitant about . No worries tho, not a single problem nor inconvenience .Rose gave us info on all the local attractions with maps . Very very useful. Very clean, friendly hosts and guests. A winner! read more
