Arguably the best street tacos in Oxford, MS and surrounding areas. They are just GOOD. The people in here are extremely friendly and service is very good. Be prepared, to wait a bit for your order, but trust me when I say it is worth it. This place is relatively small, and space is limited. I would suggest getting there early on Sundays, because it fills up quickly. They offer 2 or 3 tables outside on a covered porch so you can enjoy the weather if you'd like. Inside will probably hold 30 people give or take. Kind of condensed if that makes sense You have to ask for salsa and chips, etc. unlike most Mexican joints, so don't forget to ask. They won't just bring it to you. Most of those things are a la carte. You can tell the chips are homemade. Might need to add a bit of salt to the chips. I've been to this place a handful of times. I believe my favorite tacos are the Barbacoa or the Al pastor. (Don't let the word lamb scare you off) They also have several authentic Mexican ingredients, spices, and other grocery items for sell in here as well. Tried the carne asada tacos and they were packed with flavor. The meat was tender with a nice char, and the tortillas were warm and soft. I liked the simple toppings nonions, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime. The green salsa had just enough heat to wake up the flavor without being too spicy. This place was pretty busy but service was fast and friendly. They got everything right on the first try. Definitely a spot I'll come back to. read more

This shop does not mess around--the chips are thick and real and the salsas are made it house. The menu is streamlined which makes things simple. I had three different tacos: grilled chicken, fish (tilapia), and vegetarian. The chicken was cubed and crisp without dryness. The tilipia was fried and in one filet which worked to hold the taco together. The vegetarian was fresh and varied with avocado, cilantro, shredded iceburg lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. This place was delicious! The shredded chicken was seasoned very nicely. The onions and cilantro on the tacos add so much. Two tortillas for each taco to make sure they don't break and fall apart. The cheese was really runny which I wasn't expecting, but it had nice flavor. The chips were yummy. Not too expensive either. read more

This little hole in the wall toco shop is very impressive. They have all you need. 1- Chips and queso- this was unreal. Homemade chips, fresh every time and very tasty. Queso honestly not all that bad, kinda runny. But the mix of chips and queso is perfect. 2- chicken toco. Tortillas are fresh and flavorful. Chicken was kinda dry but the tortilla and cilantro helped it out. 3- margs are not that bad being a very picky drinker when it comes to margs. It will get you to where you need to go. Sorry, but this place doesn't do it for me. Guacamole was thick pea soup and tasted off - My partner ordered it and just the appearance put her off, and she wouldn't even taste it. Non traditional (which was fine) green salsa was too thin to stick to the chips. While the chips were freshly made, they were overly oily out of the fryer. Side of rice was dry and tasteless. Tacos were ok, but nothing special. The one redeeming item was my chorizo torta. Chorizo was excellent, and complemented well with the other toppings. Bread was good as well, though didn't appear to be baked on site. The server tried, but that also fell short, though not necessarily her fault. The chips were not ready, and didn't come out until we had pretty much finished our meal. Same with salsa and guacamole. It threw off the flow of the meal and meant we didn't have the guacamole or salsa to add to our main courses. The part that was on the server was checking back with us. No refills on drinks, never got the check, and no real checks on everything. The good torta couldn't overcome all the issues we ran into. And the food just wasn't there for us. My partner summarized it as we drove out of the parking lot: "Hated the food. I don't ever want to come back." read more

Best dine in Latin American food in Oxford. Doesn't feel like a Tex-Amex factory, and has a lot of charm. They have good fish that won't get you sick, and the service is very fast. It has a nice atmosphere, and you can check out a grocery in the restaurant while you wait for your food. read more

There just isn't a better restaurant in Oxford. There is nothing that could stop me from eating here pretty much every week. The tacos are so delicious and taste just like the tacos in Mexico. My favorites are the Arabe (pork) and the bistek (steak with grilled onions). The cheese dip is delicious and the pico de gallo is INCREDIBLE. The chips here are also perfect. It's not some fancier place designed to attract a large variety of crowds (ie South Depot Taco Shop by the square) Had the Tongue Taco. Amazing, great flavor and very tender Also had the fried fish platter. Generous portions for the price. It was a nice sized fish (some sort of white fleshed fish), deep fried and still nice and moist. The salad with it had some avocado slices, with rice and the beans with a heavy cumin influence, which was very good. It was a great dinner for not too much money. read more

Oh my god, this place is the best. This is real-deal Mexican food, which is scarce in Oxford. No hard shell tacos or tasteless shredded lettuce in here. They do have the standard rice and refried beans, but why go for that when there are so many better things to choose from? An a la carte taco menu plus options for gorditas, tortas, etc. means you can spend almost nothing and get a ton of incredible food. My go-to order is a carnitas gordita, an arabe taco, and a shredded chicken taco. (I know, a chicken taco sounds like it would be boring, but they do it so well.) I also highly recommend the lamb (cordero) taco. But honestly, you can't go wrong with any meat option here. Go for the cheese dip because it tastes great, but beware that it's a little runny. Their guacamole is the only item I've ever ordered here that tastes a little mediocre. I love to grab a Mexican Coke or a Jarrito's soda as well, because you can't get those at a lot of Mexican places around here. Please give this place your money. They deserve to keep serving this amazing food forever. read more

The tacos here are SO good and so are the chips if you order queso or guacamole. The menu has a wide variety of meats to choose from for the tacos and they're all less than $2. It's a great deal. So, I just do the whole, you know," Hey, Google... Taco's near me." The first one that comes up was this place, the Taco Shop. I was so happy when I found out that they had like 7-10 different types of meats and types of tacos. So, I called in and order of chips and cheese, a side of Pico de Gao and 3 lamb, and 3 steak tacos. Seriously, hands down. this place is my favorite Mexican joint in the area. The Pico de Gao is a 9/10, Tacos 8/10, and chips (once peprika is added at my house LOL :D) 8/10. Please try this place out. 1 downside to the place.... Basically a no frills place that serves decent Mexican along with beer and margaritas in a strip mall location. You get a selection of Mexican food which consists of the usual things wrapped in tortillas along with a small convenience store with Mexican household products, snacks and spices. The red salsa here is a bit watery but it is among the hottest I've ever been served. The margaritas were on the weak side for me and for $6 didn't provide enough bang for the buck so order a double for a proper ration of tequila. read more
