So... I did this thing, "The Polar Plunge" on New Year's Day after being asked to join my friend, Nate, who is a Taproom employee. The minute I walked into the establishment, I was welcomed and greeted as though I've been a lifetime regular. The employees are extremely kind and very attentive to everyone. And the owner is onsite, and that's not seen too often in a smaller sized bar, and he has his employees work their magic without any intervention which can sometimes complicate a rhythm causing a disruption in service. Regardless, the Bloody Mary is perfect and I swear has the best crisp pickle!; I told our server, Gabby, after she had popped popcorn that filled the bar with the best scent, ever- not that it needed such because the bar itself is CLEAN! With all that this place has to offer, I suggest one take a PLUNGE into the TAPROOM for a great bar experience!

It also appeared to have several vegetarian/pescatarian options so I checked it out. It's 5:00 pm on a Wednesday and there's only one other customer in here. I ordered the calamari appetizer and it appears to be breaded and fried frozen calamari - the onion ring type. The liquor and beer selection is very limited. Nothing too great here except a couple of halfway decent bottles of scotch, surprisingly. The Yelp reviews star rating is much lower than the google reviews for whatever reason. I didn't see that until after I got here and sat down. There is Mexican music playing and the bartender is having a conversation in Spanish with the only other customer here. They seem to know each other. I was expecting a bit more from the google reviews and photos but as I said, I'm not familiar with the area. The calamari was served with a bland creamy orange colored sauce. Maybe I should have ordered the shrimp. No paper towels in the men's room but there is soap at least. The service was good but I was the only one there after a short time. It was $35 for 2 servings of cheap cabernet and a frozen calamari appetizer. I still tipped 20%. I probably would not come back.

While I consider myself a foodie, I had little interest in driving around the Waukegan area the night I visited Anastasia's. At first it appeared to be a great choice--myriad people in the bar area talking, eating, and reacting to the televised game. I ordered a glass of wine to start; the pour was rather skimpy. Tempted to order another, I realized a single glass was on the border of my daily alcohol per diem?! I decided to forgo the pizza special for wings and cheese curds. The resulting dishes provided a healthy amount (see picture), however, taste (as other Yelpers note) was average. When you rack up $55 for cheese curds, wings, and a glass of wine, AND you leave feeling 'meh'--for me, Anastasia's is an easy, "Well, I tried it..." experience. I think my next two visits for work will be branching out to the surrounding area for alternative dinner options.
