I'm not familiar with this area but I happened to be in town so I searched "cocktails near me" on google, and this place had 4.5 star rating. It also appeared to have several vegetarian/pescatarian options so I checked it out. It's 5:00 pm on a Wednesday and there's only one other customer in here. I ordered the calamari appetizer and it appears to be breaded and fried frozen calamari - the onion ring type. The liquor and beer selection is very limited. Nothing too great here except a couple of halfway decent bottles of scotch, surprisingly. The Yelp reviews star rating is much lower than the google reviews for whatever reason. I didn't see that until after I got here and sat down. There is Mexican music playing and the bartender is having a conversation in Spanish with the only other customer here. They seem to know each other. I was expecting a bit more from the google reviews and photos but as I said, I'm not familiar with the area. The calamari was served with a bland creamy orange colored sauce. Maybe I should have ordered the shrimp. No paper towels in the men's room but there is soap at least. The service was good but I was the only one there after a short time. It was $35 for 2 servings of cheap cabernet and a frozen calamari appetizer. I still tipped 20%. I probably would not come back. read more

Great experience while having lunch in downtown Waukegan. Good variety on their menu with burgers, Mexican food and specials plus fair prices. The good was excellent and service was prompt and friendly. The kitchen manager even came out to check on us. I'll be back next time I'm in the area and recommend it. read more

Two blocks from the Genesee Theatre, we opted to duck in and grab a possible cocktail and perhaps a snack. Myself as well as the three others in my group work at excellent restaurants in Chicago, which could make us more critical, but instead mostly makes us empathetic. This is a cute/dive-y little joint, and should give you exactly what you expect from it. We enjoyed our margaritas and appetizers and got to the show right on time. Plus our server had cool sneakers with The Simpsons on them. read more

Decor is nice. Both of my drinks came out wrong. There seemed to be one waitress struggling with three tables while three waitresses were cleaning one table. Once the crowd came, chaos ensued and we were left holding the bill for fifteen minutes. Brussel sprout appetizer was rubbery, taco salad was eighty percent meet and chorizo burrito was good, yet messy ( no blame there). Won't return. read more

So we decided to check out the new place Saturday night. The owner was there and we tried to talk to him but he couldn't spend two minutes to talk about his new bar/restaurant. He did however have plenty of time to shoot the bull with a couple of coworkers at the back table of the restaurant. Now the bar. I know they just opened but zero selection and they had the dirty glasses and the clean glasses in the same spot the bartender was washing dishes above the open Bucket if ice that she was then putting in drinks (didn't even have a ice cooler behind the bar they are using a gator aid bucket. Anyway is it too early for bar rescue? If you are going to check this place out do it soon I don't expect them to be open for more than a few months. read more

Dinner for 4. Three of us ordered burgers cooked differently. They were all well done. I asked if burgers were fresh or frozen, told they were fresh but we'll have to disagree on that one. I guess I should have also not assumed they were beef because the texture we all agreed was not that of beef. Tasted and looked like a soy burger. Fries were good though but our table was given 2 bottles of basically empty ketchup. As I got up to use the restroom, I also saw a bowl with what I assumed to be wing sauce in it sitting on top of an open narrow shaped trash can in the kitchen. Just resting there for later use again? Girls night out - food was delicious, especially the flan. Yummy and very reasonable.

Not good at all. We felt sick the next morning and everything felt store bought and thrown on a plate.

Went here with 4 of us and from the time we entered until we left the staff was very attentive. SLIDERS were awesome and the tacos great , and let's not forget the burger yum yum yum. Had lunch on a Friday, got the win-win burger and fries. $10 for a good burger is very fair. It was cooked a tad less than it should have, so if you want medium I would ask for medium well. Service was good, food was excellent. Will definitely be back. read more

Waitress was pretty much non-existent. Before I ordered I asked the waitress if the chilaquiles we're spicy, she replied no. The cook brought out the food since the waitress was no where to be found and come to find out, she didn't even place my order of chilaquiles. The chef brought my order out later and apologized (which is the only reason I gave it 2 stars). We went for breakfast on 9/20 and the restaurant was not full. Oh, and the chilaquiles were beyond spicy and I was unable to eat them. I gave this place a try and I will not return. read more

As Waukegan residents, we decided to give a new local establishment a try. We were told by a few that it was a new Asian Restaurant, but the website seemed to suggest otherwise. I do understand that they just had their grand opening a few days prior but our table of six was met with frustration after frustration. When you walk in, it is very clean and organized. The restaurant looks to have been decorated by Chip & Joanna Gaines, but the Hispanic music blaring on the speakers throughout dinner confused the setting and the theme in addition to making it difficult to converse at the table. In reviewing their website, we couldn't find a menu, but based on the graphic we imagined it would be a higher end american fare with wine, oysters, shrimp, etc. We were wrong. Then menu was bar appetizers, breakfast, burgers and Mexican food. No wine, no oysters, no shrimp. The consensus of the group was to get up and leave, but we decided to stick it out. We started off ordering drinks, but found their drink menu was missing ALL specialty drinks and a number of beers. One ordered a Vodka Tonic and was presented with a Vodka Honey... never seen anyone order that before. As we ordered our meals, we found they didn't have chicken so that ruled out some of the dishes. The burger was just ok, the carne asada was just ok, the specialty tacos were nothing to write home about and expensive and my nachos were decent. The bill as presented was incorrect as the domestic beers were rung up incorrectly and that took a significant amount of time to correct. In order to pay, we were forced to go to the bar as they sat 4 other tables and were busy. -- The website says they are contemporary American featuring chef crafted interpretations of dishes from southeast US. Totally not the case at all. I'll give them a few months to settle in (if they make it that long) and consider giving them a try. read more

Had a very fun evening here with girlfriends. The atmosphere was extremely pleasant, the chef cane out and offered us delicious chicken vegetable soup after we ordered, wine was very good, and my salad was fresh and delicious. The menu is limited, but that's not a bad thing- many different options, and they are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Plus it's our favorite setting at 30 N. Genesee! I ate here a few weeks ago and they prepare awesome food and service at this diamond of a restaurant in Waukegan, not far from the updated harbor & down the street from the courthouse. I had a salad, chicken tenders and a burger which were all made exactly right. read more
